47 literally stayed in an ugly basement in Hitman: Blood Money, so I find that statement kind of odd.
I can’t think of a single moment where 47 has shown that he likes expensive things.
You don’t just stumble across a house like this. You either seek it out, or you have it built based on your wishes. Neither strikes me as particularly in character for 47.
I dont really understand why people say its not fitting 47. The days of him living in a curch shed are over. He wears expensive suits, colorful attire, and looks like money. Alot of his starting suits look expensive, and for example in the marrakesh or santa fortuna suit, he pretty much is dressed to stand out.
100% my opinion too, this house screams 47 all over. We need to remember his age too, this building looks perfect for some “relaxed downtime” near to “retirement” to me.
It’s been established that his suits and equipment, as well as some occasional fine dining, are the only ways he lives lavishly. As an assassin who needs to constantly stay ahead of the authorities, rival hitmen, vengeance seekers, and people looking to exploit his clone status, he has to maintain a low profile and stay in non-descript, out-of-the-way places that don’t attract much attention and that people are not likely to remember or think about. A world-class contract killer isn’t going to live in a big fancy house that will make anyone who sees it wonder what the person who lives there does for a living, and create an open invitation for burglars to try raiding the place while he’s away and finding compromising material.
That’s the juxtaposition of 47 living that way, to Alma Reynard having an eye-catching, high-class “safe house” that people would notice and ask questions about and has so many windows that people can see half its interior and familiarize themselves if they intended to assault the place. That’s why Reynard is presented as a less-than-professional assassin who’s really more of a terrorist. She’s living the life of an “assassin” as people who indulge in too much fiction like to think of it, even by the standards of this series.
The only justification for 47 having such a house is if it is a recent acquisition that he got during the year after Providence’s defeat where he stepped away from contract killing and hasn’t really decided what to do with himself, but figured he might as well indulge while he wasn’t an active hitman. If that’s the explanation, I’ll take it, no problem.
All I want is for 47 to have a pet rabbit in his house.
One that goes squick when interacted with.
He regained his humanity and feelings, so having a rabbit again would make sense for the story and to acknowledge his arc. (I also kinda want to have the rabbit have a puny name based on Grey, as an homage from 47…).
(and yes, the idea came to me from the space hamster in mass effect)
His fine suits (usually complimented by NPCs), knowledge of wines and whatnot do give him a sophisticated aura.
On the other hand, he doesn’t mind drowning someone in their own puke at a public toilet with his bare hands or the ugly basement as you mentioned.
47 have an affection for rabbits even if it was repressed by the serum, this scene in the comic takes place after the serum, and after the memory loss but shows it well.
And now that 47 have his own life, his own moments…
I’ve been wondering, what does 50 million players translate to in terms of game sales? From what Hakan said in the Year 2 video, it sounds like that’s 50 million across all three WoA games. In which case…
Do we get counted three times if we own each game? Or does one IOI account = one player?
How many of the 50 million are Free Starter Pack players, or those who got HITMAN 1 free on Epic?
I mean, even if only 1 in 10 of those 50 million have ever purchased one game, that’s still something like a quarter of a billion dollars in game sales
It’s for sure 50 million across all three games so far, but how much of that includes Starter Pack users or people who have bought into all three games is yet to be determined.
Still, an impressive milestone that they’ve managed to reach that many people checking out their games.
Honestly, I’d expect that stat to be subject to a degree of ‘spin’: not anything untrue at all, but equally presenting the stats in a way that casts IOI in the most favourable light (which they can and should be doing: that’s just marketing).
I expect that owners of H1/H2/H3 will be counted as 3 players (which, I think, they should be), but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see things like players who have just downloaded a Free Starter Pack (in H1/H2/H3) and not actually purchased any WoA content counted in that figure. Not an untruth, but a positive spin on the raw stats.
*Based on my purely speculative guessing, obviously - only IOI will have access to the full data set.
EDIT - I should also say that I agree with @TheChicken - it’s an impressive number whatever way you slice it.
Yes I am sure that a fraction of all 50 million users were not paying customers, and some played Hitman through a free starter pack.
But the reality is that IOI made record profits from Hitman III, and this was publicized in their annual report. Record profits came from game sales , and there were a record number of those.
Impossible to say, WOA trilogy was on the PS+ multiple times, and with many free periods on all plateforms over the time. That being said, I think the most important thing is that this number translates into real sales so that IO can still produce games. And it’s more than a success in that regard. 3 studios with 3 games in production in 2021, it’s the best case scenario that could happen to them after SQUEXIT. It is even a miracle.
While a lot complained about the Epic Game Store exclusive for Year 1 of Hitman III, it probably is the exclusive arrangement that provided:
a) needed cash on hand to create Hitman III.
b) a need to devote a large team in anticipation of Year 2 Steam sales than Year 1 content.*
*It is probably the one year contract with the Epic Games Store that pushed a strategy of IOI devoting a bigger team and greater effort for Year 2 release of content to maximize sales for a future Year 2 Steam release, in comparison to a less of an effort to post launch content in Year 1 (e.g. the 7 Deadly Sins DLC).
I want to see the complete Cassandra Snow novel series in a bookshelf. 47 is obviously a fan, considering that he was able to ask the author some very detailed lore questions.
Or alternatively he may have read it as preparation for his mission, but became a fan.
Your point is very good, my only arugment against it would be John Wick. Another one that seemingly would fit to your points, about vengance-seekers, rivals, etc, but still has an expensive looking house and cars and has the “fame” to be left alone, and I think 47 could have that too. A place that is out in the nowhere, not able to be found, while he takes a low profile and enjoys his time alone. Maybe some gardening with some tomatoes…!
