Hitman Co-op news thread

On June 7th 2025  announced (among other things) a co-op mode staring Agent Stone and Agent Knight is coming to Hitman WoA.

The mode still doesn’t have a release date yet but it is slowly being talked about more by .

This thread is for all news about the co-op mode.

Thank you for creating the thread for me Codename! <3

Today there was a little teaser included in a social media post about Hitman’s anniversary:

And co-op has freelancer objectives, at least in this testing version they showed off to IOI employees.

There also looks to be split screen.

The lighting and fog is maybe a new time of day or a little buggy, but I found out it isn’t a new location and is around here in Whittleton creek.

I love that we’ll be able to mix and match the assassins we can play with. With co-op also now being in Freelancer I wonder what the lore explanation will be for Knight and / or Stone being in the safehouse. Maybe 47 will show a paternal side to his much younger coworkers and adopt them :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s in the same place as one of the “Outbreak” entrances… coincidence? Also, that fog looks sort of like an explosion effect, to me at least.

I wonder if by allowing people to mix and match who they’re playing as, it means we’ll also be allowed to play single player as Stone or Knight instead of 47. That would require a ton of new voice lines in the main missions, but in Freelancer all there would need to be is just a few lines for talking to suppliers and a few new Diana lines.

Also I’m surprised by the split screen multiplayer. Maybe it’s something just for testing, or maybe there will be an option for local co-op on the same platform

While I think Freelancer support is a good thing for longevity, I hope there is an actual Campaign behind co-op too.

Freelancer co-op is going to be ass unless you’re playing with someone you actually know tbh (assuming there is matchmaking).

A random player you’re assigned to isn’t likely going to stick around around to play through a full campaign. Also, what happens if a player’s connection drops out for 30 seconds? Does the entire campaign just disappear and you have to start again?

I hope that co-op will be completely isolated from rest of the game.

I don’t want to see it or even know about it.

Welcome to a world of GET ACCESS tiles (if its a paid DLC).

I hope it’s free and just supplemented with more cosmetics or something like Freelancer was.

Not because I wouldn’t be willing to pay, but because getting friends/others to pay this long after release is a hard sell.

Then there’s the whole possibility of cross platform play, but I imagine they’re just going to continue not to bother even though IOI Account linking exist.

I honestly think paid co-op would be dead on arrival. A free update and some proper marketing would be a major hit, especially if IOI sponsored some streamers to chaos co-op campaign together. Imagine one player setting up a stealthy kill while another player alerts every guard on the whole map.

It has so much potential and I’m desperate for them to not screw it up. My ideal scenario would be “friends can play with you for free without owning the game” but even just playing with friendly random people would scratch an itch for me.

If we’re playing co-op together and you’re 47 then am I allowed to play as Smith?

^^ this is my main question !

If paid co-op happened it most likely must have been the work of Dark Reunion.
