Hitman Full Stealth Challenge

Hi guys!

I have an idea of a full stealth challenge for the whole Hitman series, which I would like to discuss with you

PROBLEM

As far as you probably know, all games in the series have their own scoring systems that are not compatible with each other. Also, the scoring is not perfect in general (especially in older games), and in some cases, the best scores can be achieved without actually being completely stealth

PURE 47 CHALLENGE

You just enter the mission, kill your targets with your default equipment, and exit unnoticed (completely unnoticed, including any in-game suspicion indication)

This challenge is focused on common stealth principles (like not killing NPCs or making unnecessary noise) rather than in-game stats, and is consistent throughout the series, which means you can play any game or mission focusing on the same goal

PURE 47+ CHALLENGE (ADVANCED VERSION)

The difference is that you focus on NL (No Loadout) and AO (Accidents Only) instead of TO (Targets Only), which means that you use the environment to kill the targets instead of your equipment

Here is the full description of the rules I posted recently on Reddit

What do you think?

Good idea, only it can’t be implemented in that fashion for the entire series. Portions of the original game have moments when killing non-target NPCs is virtually unavoidable in order to complete the mission at all. The second game has mechanics that make not being detected at all in even a cursory scan by an NPCs as impossible. And for that second version of the challenge, until WoA came along, no game lets you just use the environment to kill all your targets, and certainly not without items already in your loadout. So the challenge needs to have a game-by-game standard of acceptance that allows each game’s personal equivalent to the challenge you suggest be accepted without necessarily following it to the letter, because it’s just not feasible - and in some cases not even possible - to implement this challenge throughout the whole series.

Now then, if by the “whole Hitman series” you actually mean just WoA (which is simply titled HITMAN), then I don’t think there’s any issue.

Also, pardon me if the links your provided for the rules actually cover that very thing, I’m not able to access them at this moment so I don’t know if I’m posting this for nothing yet.

Actually that’s covered in the rules
I’ll repost here under the thread for better visibility

PURE 47 CHALLENGE

Hitman game series speedrun performed by individual missions (IL), with the challenge focused on full stealth style (“Pure 47”)

You just enter the mission, kill your targets with your default equipment, and exit unnoticed (completely unnoticed, including any in-game suspicion indication)

To be more precise, the goal is to comply with the following conditions whenever possible:

  • Max difficulty
  • Max rating
  • Suite Only (SO)
  • Targets Only (TO)
  • No alerts
  • No KOs
  • No bombs
  • No shots
  • Default equipment
  • Default starting location
  • No HUD
  • No glitches

If the mission is impossible to complete with all the requirements (which is the case for some old Hitman games), you should count all the distractions you’ve made (see the run’s name naming requirements at the end)

Distraction priority from more critical to less:

  • Alerts - alerts initiated (any type according to in-game indication, including non-green suspicion indicator, being spotted by NPC or camera)
  • Kills - non-target kills
  • KOs - knockouts (including anesthetic)
  • Disguises - disguises used (except undressing and default starting suits)
  • Bombs - bombs or other explosive devices used
  • Shots - shots fired
  • Equipment - non-default or smuggled equipment used (except fiber wire)
  • Targets Only - targets or objectives only

The fewer distractions you make, the better. If distractions are unavoidable, less critical distractions (according to the priority above) are better. For the same category of distraction, the fewer total number of distractions is better. Distractions required by the mission’s objectives don’t count as distractions (like mandatory explosions or KOs). And, of course, the faster you make the run, the better

The ultimate goal is to get as close as possible to Targets Only (TO) on each mission in the shortest time

NAMING FRAMEWORK

In the Hitman community, we usually use common notation like Pro/SA/SO/TO to describe the runs. This is a slightly modified and more detailed version of that, which suits the challenge better

Each mission’s run should be named as follows (which makes the video easier to find and compare on the internet)

Game - Mission [Challenge] - Difficulty/Rating/Suite/Distractions (Time)

Examples

Hitman C47 - The Lee Hong Assassination [Pure 47] - Hard/A1K1D1 (02:35)

Hitman Contracts - Slaying a Dragon [Pure 47] - Pro/SA/SO/E1 (02:35)

Hitman WoA - World of Tomorrow [Pure 47] - Pro/SA/SO/TO (02:35)

Structure

Game - game’s name

  • Hitman C47
  • Hitman SA
  • Hitman Contracts
  • Hitman BM
  • Hitman Absolution
  • Hitman WoA

Mission - mission’s name

Challenge - challenge you are aiming to

  • Pure 47

Difficulty - difficulty level

  • Hard (C47)
  • Pro (SA, Contracts, BM)
  • Purist (Absolution)
  • Master (WoA)

Rating - achieved rating

  • SA (SA, Contracts, BM, WoA)
  • Shadow (Absolution)

Suit - disguises used

  • SO - suit only

Distractions - distractions made

  • A{n} - number of alerts
  • K{n}- number of non-target kills
  • KO{n} - number of KOs
  • D{n} - number of disguises used
  • B{n} - number of bombs or explosives used
  • S{n} - number of shots fired
  • E{n} - number of non-default equipment used
  • TO - target kills only

Time - time of completion, {mm:ss}

Hmm, intriguing. This is somewhat similar to my own Parameters of Perfection.

PURE 47+ CHALLENGE

You can make the challenge more difficult by focusing on NL (No Loadout) and AO (Accidents Only) instead of just TO, which means that you use the environment to kill the targets instead of your equipment

Unlike TO, due to the scripted nature of accidents, full AO runs are mostly not achievable in older Hitman games (some missions don’t even have any targets to kill). Same with NL - not all missions have melee weapons placed in the environment. The challenge gives you less freedom and takes more time because you need to wait for certain conditions to perform an accident kill and search for a weapon

Consider these additional levels of distractions for Pure 47+:

  • No Loadout (partial) - environment weapons or accident target kills with several equipment weapons target kills
  • No Loadout - environment weapons target kills only
  • Accidents Only (partial) - accident target kills with several environment weapons target kills
  • Accidents Only - accident target kills only

Additional rules for non-target kills and KOs (if any, may be relevant for older games):

  • No Loadout Kills - environment weapons non-target kills
  • Accident Kills - accident non-target kills
  • No Loadout KOs - environment weapons KOs
  • Accident KOs - accident KOs

Any equipment usage is prohibited, including defaults. Bare hands are considered as an environment weapon

The goal is to get as close as possible to Accidents Only (AO) on each mission in the shortest time

NAMING FRAMEWORK

Examples

Hitman C47 - The Lee Hong Assassination [Pure 47+] - Hard/D1NLK1 (02:35)

Hitman Contracts - Slaying a Dragon [Pure 47+] - Pro/SA/SO/AO (02:35)

Hitman WoA - World of Tomorrow [Pure 47+] - Pro/SA/SO/NL-1 (02:35)

Structure

Distractions - distractions made

  • NLKO{n} - number of environment weapons KOs
  • AKO{n} - number of accident KOs
  • NLK{n} - number of environment weapons non-target kills
  • AK{n} - number of accident non-target kills
  • NL-{n} - number of target kills by equipment weapons
  • NL - environment weapons target kills only
  • AO-{n} - number of target kills by environment weapons
  • AO - accident target kills only

Also, if you go to the Reddit post, you can see a couple of my own runs as examples, so you can see the implementation (can’t post YouTube links here for some reason)
