Just putting this out there on a slightly different subject, would everyone be up for IOI bringing back a story consisting of say 12 / 13 missions like in Contracts and Blood Money all on one disc? I know the WOA had a long campaign spread over three discs etc, but I do sort of miss the days when a Hitman game launched with a story consisting of 13 missions all on one disc at launch day.

I really hope IOI go back to that approach when 47 makes his inevitable return :wink:

With the trilogy done, the series will go on a bit of a hiatus but it kind of feels like it’s done. Even if IOI dropped a new Hitman game in two to five years, I find it hard to see any evolutionary jumps from World of Assassination. All the things I can think of require upgrading the A.I. which is at its best right now given tools at hand. (Not saying it’s bad)

Any improvements seems like ten years down the line when the next PlayStation and Xbox consoles releases. Now there can still be stories in books, comics or even fan fiction or…another attempt at a movie, but a new game looks to be much later in the future. Unless fans don’t mind playing the same game with different maps, which personally I’m not bothered by but would no doubt be a critique among reviewers.

So what I’m wondering is if this was the last game, would you be content with that or would you be willing to wait possibly a decade?

  • It’s had a good run, I’m satisfied.
  • I can try and wait 10 years.
  • Don’t care, I want the next game ASAP.

Personally I can see another Hitman game coming out for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. We got the Xbox One in 2013 and we had that for 7 years before the Xbox Series X released. If we followed the same pattern, we wouldn’t see the new consoles until 2027 :open_mouth:

The PS5 and Xbox Series X have absolutely loads of capabilities to change the gaming formula for the Hitman franchise. With Hitman 3 the graphics etc were likely similar to previous entries because the game was built around the PS4/Xbox One consoles. If we got another Hitman game in say 5 or 6 years time, IOI would simply just create it for PS5 and Series X and it would be massively different in my opinion. Not to mention IOI have already acknowledged they’ll be more than likely doing another take on the gaming formula when they return to the franchise.

I’m a PC guy so I don’t think much in terms of console generations, but I don’t think IOI will let Hitman sit on the bench for super long. Especially as an indie they need to play it safe to a large degree, to keep their business steady, and Hitman would be guaranteed to make X number of dollars, which they can factor into their business plan.

can i go with ‘both’?

Especially when Hitman 3 has for one blown critics away and also made all its budget back within just one week of release. That’s really impressive.

I’m hoping we see 47 step out of the shadows hopefully by 2025 at least :crossed_fingers:

It’s weird to think the longest we went without a Hitman game is 6 years. I keep feeling like we had multiple long gaps between entries.

Yeah that’s true. I’m hoping the gap is slightly shorter until we get the next game.

Fingers crossed

Well it won’t be a real Hitman gap if we don’t get another movie. That’s the rule.

I definitely hope we don’t get another movie.

Every time they turn video games into films they never get it right.

The TV show might come out.

Silent Hill wasn’t too bad. But yeah 99% of the time they mess it up.

The laat Tomb Raider movie is actually a pretty decent adaptation of the Tomb Raider reboot, I thought. Nothing amazing but a solid movie.

I enjoyed the first Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider as well. Critics hated it but Jon Voight and Daniel Craig are always solid. I either didn’t see the 2nd one, or it was that forgettable.

That one is entertaining if you have a high tolerance for 90’s cheese, which is very different from 80’s cheese. A lot of people (ironically or not) still enjoy 80’s cheese, but 90’s cheese is a little more of an acquired taste lol.

One way they can improve Hitman beyond the gameplay heights of the trilogy is to allow more interaction with the environment, à la immersive sims like Prey, System Shock, or Thief. I always found it funny how H2’s tagline, “The World Is Your Weapon” was always only limited to whatever the devs’ scripting allowed you to do. What if you could actually interact with the environment in a way that authentically encourages creativity and improvisation?

The ability to use many more kinds of inanimate objects like moving crates to clamber unreachable ledges, dropping heavy objects off a balcony for a kill WITHOUT contextual button prompts, actually PUSHING it. Or using sewer water currents to smuggle weaponry into a secured building, location-based damage that causes NPC’s behaviour to change, like limping or crawling. Pouring water bottles on the floor to cause NPCs to slip and fall as long as they don’t notice the puddle beforehand. A rudimentary light-and-sound based stealth system allowing you to shoot out lights and encouraging more care in player movement.

The possibilities are ENDLESS, and your actions begin to have actual consequences, not ones the devs script for you.
