How many hits/assassinations did 47 have before joining the ICA?

-Meyer would often send his clones on assassinations for extra income - 47’s and 6’s targets included two plaintiffs in a lawsuit against Blue Seed Pharmaceuticals, Peter and Nancy Burnwood, coincidentally the parents of 47’s future ICA handler Diana Burnwood.

These lines from the wiki inspired me to make this thread. I’m not so familiar with 47 background novels/comics and other stuff but I would find interesting to see more of his growth, see which targets Ort-Meyer would pick and new interactions with other clones and Subject 6. Would love to see it returning to a more darker psychological. What do you think? What’s the best way to train an Assassin if not directly in the camp.

It’s a good idea to explore, yeah  I remember at the opening of 2016, Diana asked 47 what it was like, killing before. He called it “Disordered. Random”, which always made me think 47 had these skills but didn’t know how to use them, and they manifested in him being a reluctant serial killer. This is why he went to the ICA, for them to focus his natural talents to something that wasn’t random (which also lends into the theme that 47 was a weapon that couldn’t think for itself, and needed to be told where to shoot).

It seems the Ortmeyer and his ‘extracurricular activities’ for Providence were retconned in after Diana’s backstory was altered

It’s hard to tell because there’s been overlaps in the writers and some retcons, even those that occur in-universe, but as far as we can tell:

47’s first kill may or may not have been one of his fellow clones, an older one who bullied him. The novel Enemy Within says that he killed number 6 in this incident, but not only does WoA make the events of that novel no longer possible as canon, but Lucas Grey being 6 shows he wasn’t killed. The comics do state that Ort-Meyer gave 47 false memories of 6 bullying him, but whether that means that the death never happened, or whether it was a different clone and Ort-Meyer just made 47 remember it incorrectly as being 6, is unknown. However, as told, the event seemed to have been approved by Ort-Meyer because the clone in question was deemed problematic and he wanted to see if 47 would deal with the matter himself, so it could be seen as an assassination after-the-fact.

We do know from the comics he also sent 47 to take down some guys in South America on one contract, and then he and 6 brought down the Berlin Wall in order to get a guy to remove their tracker implants, although I can’t remember if they were sent there on an actual contract and simply used that to their advantage to get that done.

In 1989 he was sent to take out Diana’s parents of course, perhaps his most significant pre-ICA contract.

Then, after 47 escaped the asylum-

he got at least one freelance job to take out a target that was also being targeted by a team of ICA agents that Diana was the handler on, and he beat them to it, which led to ICA extending him the offer to join.

At this point in time, unless I’m missing something, that’s all we know of before ICA.
