Since Twitter was bought by Elon Musk, and renamed to X, the platform has had issues regarding its moderation. Elon Musk himself has made it clear by his actions and by his posts the kind of atmosphere X has, which personally, I believe is not acceptable for a social media site. I certainly don’t believe Elon Musk’s behaviour and rhetoric would be tolerated on Hitman Forum.
Two days ago, Elon Musk did a Nazi salute at the presidential inauguration. His behaviour has been problematic before, but to do such a blatant action is inexcusable. I think at this point, a line has to be drawn in the sand. I am asking IOI to stop posting on their X account and to deactivate it immedietly. To use it is to support a company who, at least as far as I’m concerned, is run and owned by a Nazi.
I am not advocating any other social media sites, all of them have problems. I also realise that such a decision probably goes all the way to the top, and that doing so may hurt the company’s social media reach, marketing, and sales. But if there is anytime to cut ties with X, I think it is right now. Elon Musk’s behaviour is indefensible, and continuing to use X means that, even in a very minor way, benefits from it. It’s about the principal and doing the right thing.
I also want to stress that I have no anger towards IOI, or anyone who works for IOI, or any member of this forum who uses X. I imagine that this decision would require discussion and approval. But I do believe it is important and wanted to bring it to attention.
Quitting Twitter/X means only bluesky.
Because communication needs to happen.
Fully quitting is a wise choices for Leaders, Services that are truly sought for, and in general people that want to connect to like-minded professionals and the formers.
For an organisation like IOI, and the brand of Hitman it’s not.
It would send a message that is not theirs to send, and at a cost toward what is theirs to preserve. But if they do, they will have my respect.
It would be a large gamble. One with a lot to loose, and not the best odds.
IOI is in a lull, in between games. So they won’t attract a lot of people on day to day.
They’re not leaders whose migration will be latched on, or even wildly seen.
Unless they get lucky at the announcement.
I think they should make a pin “we expanded” with the blusky logo beneath post on twitter though.
And then if it catches on, have an honest discussion about staying on twitter/X.
(also it might be seen and talked about, since it’s the current engaged discussion)
The only clever way to do it would be to have LOTS AND LOTS of other media about 47 taking out X because it’s owned by a crazy man.
Facebook, Snapchat, instagram, TikTok, old school website too banner stuff, email, finsta, bluesky, tv ads in Denmark, YouTube ads on their channel and also available as paid ads before whether else people want to see, maybe billboards in NYC and HongKong? 47 scoped into the logo of X. But really it’s too small a game and it has an anti-hero not a hero, and his profession brings controversy… it’s likely not to go world wide and bring in more attention than leaving twitter would lose. Still as OP said, if they go for it they have my respect.
X is a very problematic platform for a plethora of reasons. Between algorithms that harbor and allow blatant distribution of CP to overall facist ideologies being propagated and put on a pedestal.
I’m glad I quit using the platform because it’s a cesspit of bad.
If IOI is communicating with users via either X or TikTok, I’ll never see either. X/Twitter is just a horrible platform and I’m not legally allowed to access TikTok… I’m also too old to bother learning a new platform so Bluesky, whatever that is, is out too. I do still have a FaceBook account for keeping up with family but that’s about it.
Why can’t IOI just remember to also post on this forum?
Whatever you think about the platform, i think it would be a very bad move in the long term
X still is within the best social media platforms in the world with millions if not billions of users. Going away because of whatever reasons would bring a significant loss, not only in terms of revenue but also the audience who isn’t willing to move away because some people want to.
Look at what they have done to Reddit in the past and now for example, they’re just enclosing themselves and hurrying their downfall
Instead of blindly removing everything and going away, expanding the communication through other platforms could work, but it will also depend of the numbers of the audience and the impact of publishing there
They could try BlueSky. Doubt it’s as big as X (damn this name is stupid) but it’s still a great alternative. Alt least until that ones goes to hell as well and there will be another alternative . The cycle of life, I guess…
I’ve heard about Bluesky but i don’t think it will be a significant alternative to X. I prefer waiting to see how the market will go through 2025, maybe there will be other and better things in the making? Wait & see…
There’s been a recent uptick in bluesky account creations by companies, partly due to Elon Musk’s recent…uh…nazi salute incident.
IO are on Bluesky, which is why me and a few others were utterly baffled by their retweeting of my (very angry) video criticising them.
But like with many things, this isn’t advertised anywhere, and that doesn’t help matters. Personally, the more people move away from Twitter the better. It is now a shell of something it once was.
But they do engage with this community. There are at least two IOI employees who regularly post on this forum (or semi-regularly, when they remember to). They set the precedent of engaging with this community and then just stopped for whatever reason.
No cause no will care about this in 2 weeks and IO wont see any long term benifts by doing it . the most that they can gain by doing this is get praise from redditors for 1 week.
Not a good business move. Bluesky does NOT have the same reach as Twitter. They are already struggling with engagement on Meta platforms like Facebook and Instagram as it is.
Also not everyone even agrees that it was a nazi salute. Everyone who already disliked Elon (and Trump) are saying so, everyone who likes Elon and Trump are saying no. Everyone else literally doesn’t give a damn!
Not to get political, but I think whatever IOI’s opinion is, they shouldn’t leave X. It’s a major plataform and communication is getting worse at every second.
