Le Chiffre ft Mads Mikkelsen Elusive Target (June 6 - July 6 2025)

Live now for those of you that still need The Showcase Duck & Poker Chip

This DLC is genius.

Amazing to think this map is almost 10 years old. A great little nod to tie everything together.

Hope to see more fictional characters added in the future that fit the Hitman Universe.

Considering we now see how high-profile IOI is willing and able to go after getting Mads Mikkelsen to join the game by returning to the character that brought him global fame, a role from a very prominent franchise at that, that means pretty much anyone other than perhaps top-tier Hollywood triple A-listers is pretty much on the table. Would absolutely not be surprised if we end up seeing, for instance, Bill Skarsgard show up as an ET, returning to his role from John Wick 4 as the Marquis de Gramont. :crossed_fingers:

Good:

  • The fact you’re openly asking for feedback on the forum, something I don’t recall happening after any content release before
  • Map changes. For the first time in 9 years we have a version of Paris that doesn’t feel like a fashion show, very welcome and overdue since it never got a bonus mission
  • Mission story and its choices
  • Writing/narrative. Good use of Smith, LeChiffre, all of it really

Bad:

  • Fact it’s using Elusive Target formula. Just because it’s what you’ve been doing in the past doesn’t mean you need to keep doing it. Make it a special assignment that’s free for a brief period (so there’s still impetus to buy the DLC). It’s more conducive to the replayability of the mission story (the gambling outcomes, the choice of VIP, going as the croupier, or just doing an old fashioned infiltration and kill), and then you could come up with more challenges for the mission for people to play through, like win $1mil at the casino, blah blah.
  • Diana is both too hand-holdy (which I am against, but you have done because again it uses ET formula and you don’t want players to fail and be locked out on their first time. This is another reason it’s very bad to use ET formula for big content) and yet somehow she doesn’t mention that LeChiffre’s “Signature poison” is non-lethal, which led to me quitting the game at the 2 seconds left mark of the poison, because I didn’t want to die and be locked out of the content. This is poor design.
  • When you’ve gone to the effort of everything else, may as well give it a time of day change; you guys already made a night tod for Paris in original Holiday Hoarders 2016
  • Pre-determinism of the gambling. I know this is a lot easier to work with for the devs than true randomness, but does feel a bit of a let down when you’ve gone to the effort of letting the player play actual casino games. My Co-worker who is a casual player said it was the biggest letdown of this mission. Perhaps a compromise could’ve been reached where each time you play against LeChiffre it randomly picks from 1 of 3 arrangements (in which LeChiffre still wins, if you insist)
  • There’s a bad trespassing zone that randomly starts in the lounge area

And if the new background NPCs had a little bit more to their routes instead of standing around in one spot in the crowded casino floor, would actually be worthy of contracts mode (again, if it was a special assignment); although you gave Holiday Hoarders and Hokkaido Snow Festival contracts mode and they each only have 2-3 NPCs different from normal contracts mode, so this mission already knocks them out of the park with how much more different it is.

If Le Chiffre falls on a banana, he will be teleported EXIT and fail.

Yes it’s supposed to just knock you out. They needed a way to get the both the poison/antidote and the naked torture scene into the level. This worked a nice treat.

Honestly i think this is a well made ET, i find cool the new casino game system and i like the fact that you can use many ways to get that invitation:
-Kill a second target for Agent Smith
-Win the bet against Rangan
-Pour a Martini for Bay
Also it is cool that you can participate the private poker game also as the croupier to make Le Chiffre lose.
There are some bugs, for example i saw someone in a stream that tried to make the target slip on to a banana while escaping but it ended to trigger the mission failure

I know that’s how the devs made the mission, but in-story, did LeChiffre know beforehand that it was only a sedative poison, or was it meant to kill 47, as it had been with Bond and as Diana’s reaction seemed to indicate, and LeChiffre just took the opportunity presented before him when it turned out that 47’s genetically-enhanced physique allowed him to survive?

I wish there was a car battery on this level. I firmly believe every map should have at least one of each of emetic poison, lethal poison, propane tank, and car battery. I would love to do a No Loadout electrocution.

@Combatglue Here is some more feedback: it is a shame that the money mechanic in this mission is nothing but surface-level. To get Rangan’s invite, you basically wait through dialogue with NPCs, pick up a “key” (10 million euro) and put the key into the lock (Rangan). Whether you win or lose the roulette game, it doesn’t matter. There are practice games of roulette and poker on the casino floor, and you can win or lose money, but none of the money matters.

Would have been cool for there to be an arms dealer or “supplier” on the map (like in Freelancer, I mean you guys already created and coded this idea). They would have for sale lethal poison, electrocution gadgets, flash phone, sniper rifle, etc. You could spend casino chips on such items. Okay, the prices would be outrageous (5 million for lethal poison!) but it would create another level of gameplay and make the whole casino chips aspect meaningful.

Edit: Or, NPCs you can actually bribe. For example if there’s a waiter or guard in the basement whose disguise you could get in exchange for 10 million euro, or something.

Found another way to softlock the mission: I KOed Bai (killing also works) but didn’t pick up the invitation, then took the dealer’s place. Le Chiffre and Rangan just sat there waiting for her, and I couldn’t leave the table.

I was hoping Smith would take her place, I wanted him to win.

I think he knew it wouldn’t kill him. He wanted the info on where 47 came from. He already had his little torture room ready in the basement for any special arrivals :joy:

I didn’t soft lock it, but I spoke to Carlton Smith, then never actually completed his ask so I never got his invite. The game progressed and only Rangan and Bai played in the game. Smith just hung out upstairs. You can’t see him here but he’s leaning on the furniture behind the camera where he usually waits for the game to begin.

I’ve wanted a new objects pass for the old maps for a while now. I would have hoped for this with the freelancer variants at least but nope.

There is a PC mod that adds Car Batteries to old maps, but that’s if for now.

Seems like that’s just how it goes. I went up to the room without doing anything and waited the 10 minutes, and the game started in exactly the same way, with Smith just watching. I guess Smith only plays when 47 takes one of the others’ invitations?

Also, oddly, at the end Le Chiffre said “Mr. Rieper
I hope we never meet again” despite that they never met in the first place, 47 only watched the game.

That’s as far back in time as Blood Money was when Paris was released

That happened in my game as well. Perhaps LeChiffre talking to Smith results in him not being allowed to play? Does he not do that if he talks to you when you play? Odd that he pegs Smith as an imposter and then either lets him play or does not, but when he pegs 47 as an imposter he decides to poison and torture him!

Stop stop I can’t bear it.

Lol.

Sorry if it’s been asked/answered/mentioned already, but has anyone tried to throw something at the poisoned wine glass, or maybe shoot it without getting spotted in order to break it? And if so
I’m not sure how it would work, but I’m mainly wondering if 47 still gets poisoned if you still have an interact prompt at that small table.

Lethal poison is a lot harder to justify in a lot of the level contexts. Emetics are usually rat poison
but lethal poison? That’s usually only seen as medicinal pills. Hokkaido only has Sedative and Emetic (unless you count the Fugu fish, but that can’t be used anywhere else but the sushi bar if memory serves). I’m not against propane tanks being on the level, they just need to hide them better in the 2016 levels (which in fairness, from 2 onward, they basically did do that).

As for car batteries
that’s a tricky one. When I was redoing Colorado, I reasoned that having one battery was enough due to the water puddles, and adding any more was simply not needed and could cause issues. I am with you though, most levels should have them. Plus, we have arguably better devices than a car battery now that you can bring in.

Would have been cool for there to be an arms dealer or “supplier” on the map (like in Freelancer, I mean you guys already created and coded this idea). I think that kind of mechanic should probably stay in Freelancer. I don’t think that fits the level at all.
