Hey guys, just here to post a quick contribution to this lighthearted thread…
You ever noticed how there’s a boat in James Batty’s garden, but no gate big enough for it? Hehe, that’s a silly little oversight on the part of the developers.
Thought you guys would enjoy that little observation. Surely it’s not interesting enough to warrent any further discussion beyond this…
Have you ever noticed how few guest rooms places like Haven or Hokkaido have? There are not nearly enough beds to accomodate all the people in those locations.
Bangkok on the other hand has a lot of guest rooms. But in those rooms you rarely (never?) find any closets. Where are the guests supposed to put all their clothes?
And where are we supposed to hide any bodies, if that comes up as a Freelancer objective?
Re: Batty’s boat… He has that odd river/waterway at the back edge. Now, it’s possible the boat loader could be taken through the gates of the fenced in area (on its side, I guess(?)) or maybe even constructed. But there’s no reason he couldn’t have had that boat in that river, and then get it onto the loader. There is also a large gap in the fence where the ‘nature preserve’ is -for the endangered frogs. But that’s overgrown at this point. So maybe many years ago he could’ve gotten the boat and loader into his yard from that direction.
Granted, one would have to consider if the river is wide enough for the boat to turn, what kind of vehicle would he have used to back the loader into the water?
Edit to add a screenshot. You can see a broken pier/boardwalk. So the loader could’ve been backed beside it, the boat pulled onto it from there, then pulled into the yard. At least, that’s my assumption.
Edit: If one were to really scrutinize this scenario… The boat is too long to turn sideways in that waterway, and there really isn’t any gradual incline to back a loader into the water to load a boat anyway. The boat is (assuredly) a resued asset from Miami. A guy like Batty would more likely have a row boat or something much smaller (than the cig boat) with an outboard motor on the back.
Re: Whittleton Creek. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… Looking at the map and the North indicator, then you see the solar panels are on what should be facing away from the sun. There’s also Vermont, which is in the Northern Hemisphere. I can’t, off the top of my head, recall what exactly is… Off about this map, but this is something that has bugged me ever since I noticed it.
I even got this mentioned in an IOI live stream where Travis spoke with one of the mission level designers. “Did I do something stupid?” And he gave an explanation (non answer ) and in the end, one just has to let it slide because it is a videogame.
Sapienza. Some details slightly bug me about this level too. It’s a few small places. Like the stairwell going up to the safehouse room. There’s a window on the outside of the building, but nothing inside on the wall where the stairs are. You can shoot through these windows from the outside though…
There are no chest freezers in the Caruso kitchen like under the Gelato shop, just wooden crates.
Chongqing. Going from the roof area with the street guards on that bridge, to the outside of Hush’s area. Look over to the left. You should see windows on the outside wall. Go into ‘The Block’, then to the room on the left. Look at the wall… There are no windows on the wall, yet there were windows on the outside.
That’s all I can think of ATM.
Oh Thank You for finding and posting this! (instantly subscribes)
The obvious answer would be that the boat was brought here at a time when Batty had no fence around his house. He then left the boat there and built a fence afterwards. When I was a child someone living near me had a boat parked on their driveway (nevermind that I was living hundreds of kilometers away from the sea). Later they built a fence with a small gate on that driveway and the boat sat there rotting all throughout my teenage years (then they had to break down that fence to get the boat out when they sold the house).
The river’s probably not deep enough to accomodate a boat that size. It’s a sea boat, not a river boat.
Haven has more guest rooms on the surrounding islands, and some of the customers are staying on their yachts that are scattered between the main island and the others.
One thing that really annoys me is something internal that most people wouldn’t know of unless you mod the Game like I do or atleast look into it’s files. The thing is that there quite a few cloned character models.
And with that I don’t mean reused models in the Map itself, but copies of models in the charset. For example take Militia Soldiers on Ambrose Island. Technically there are 9 Models by default, so as two of them look the exact same, there are really only 7.
Ambrose Island also isen’t the only location that happens in. I also found identical or near identical models in other locations. Dartmoor in particular stands out because the two cloned Gardeners there feature different nude versions, but of course look identical in the normal vartiations and just can’t really understand how something like this happens.
I dunno mate… First we can look at it from a white trash perspective. They owned the boat and then put the fence up. Since they no longer use the boat its a non-issue and the boat is never used. It just sits there and degrades as a lawn ornament. Another possibility is that they would take the front gate down if it were going to leave. Which they would then need to change how the gate was built. 2nd we have to look at it from the perspective that this is Whittleton Creek and most people imo that live in that financial demographic have an HOA (gate rebuild would then be subject to the neighborhood nazi association (HOA) approval. So having a boat in your backyard would not be something likely approved of to begin with, unless Mr Batty wants to pay constant fines. Especially since Batty is picking a fight with old money over the helicopter landing once a year.
Though I digress you are likely correct and its just an IOI oversight. I think the boat adds to how well Mr Batty fits in with the other locals, despite detail oversight.
Speaking of Whittleton, I just noticed the other day that the houses seemingly have radiator heat. That would be very uncommon in new construction in the US – I would expect a central furnace with heating vents throughout the house.
Another one that bothers me every time, and this is more a missed opportunity I guess, but I’m going to count it, as it’s both a small detail included but with nothing to it, as well as a lack of detail in what they left out (and I just want to rant a little) …
The phone stickers in Berlin.
First playthrough I thought “Oh okay they’ve introduced this new phone scan mechanic and now they’re going to take it away! Further through the campaign, when I possibly need it most. Unless I find a way in without using those stickers? Cool!”
But no, completely pointless.
You don’t have to put the sticker on your phone, you can just ignore her.
Taking the sticker does nothing and you can still use your phone.
There’s nothing to use your camera on in the level (excluding graffiti), even if it did do anything.
Nobody even cares if you take photos.
So why put that in at all? The answer I assume is something like this was planned and scrapped but then why leave that bit in there if so?
Something that has always triggered my OCD is the fact that ET voice actors never match with their stock voices (lines for distracting them, bumping into them, etc…).
The one that always stuck out to me is in Hokkaido. The “fugu roll.” Puffer fish is typically served in one of a few very specific ways with different parts of the fish each having their own traditional way it is cooked and served. It’s not unheard of to see one of those methods used for other parts of the fish too, but maki sushi roll is not one of the methods and a fugu roll would not be served at a high end luxury hospital.
She wouldn’t have even ordered it. She’s a polished attorney in a society that values tradition and etiquette.
She would have asked for shashimi if she wanted it raw.
Not that it’s really intended to be, but I always imagine that it’s sort of a half compliment, half self-deprecating joke sort of thing. Kind of like the “Props for the security crew!” guy but a bit more self-deprecating
Maybe that’s just how it sounds to us. Presumably, everyone there, at least the non-foreign patients, are speaking Japanese. 47 understands Japanese, so when Yuki orders the fugu, we’re just hearing how his mind translates it. A stretch, but one that fits within the context of the series.
It’s even weirder when CICADA guards comment on 47’s disguise with “the hell of a uniform you got there”. Like they’re not wearing exactly the same one :x
If he understood Japanese he wouldn’t hear “sashimi” as “sushi”, especially when those 2 words are also used in English for the same food. Hitman is not Ace Attorney :x
