Movies You’ve Only Just Watched

So I went to see Halloween Kills in theatres yesterday and I gotta say… It was way different than I hoped it would be.

SPOILERS AHEAD:
So we have Michael Myers surviving the ending of Halloween 2018 (to no one’s surprise) by hiding in a fireproof locker in the flaming basement, followed by him murdering 10 or some firemen who each wait their turn to be brutally slaughtered. They could’ve ganged up on Mike, but this is a horror movie so the people are all braindead.

Following this event, there are a couple of uninteresting characters from the 1978 original who survived the attacks and came together to talk about that. One guy in particular, Tommy Doyle, positions himself in the role of the tough guy and yells all these generic lines like “Evil’s gonna die tonight” and shiz. Once they realised Mike is back on the streets, they decide to gang up and form a resistance.

So far we’re about 20 mins into the movie and nothing interesting has happened yet. Cut to Laurie being transported to the hospital and not doing shit, along with her daughter and granddaughter. So is officer Hawkins who apparantly survived a stab to the throat. Worst of all: they (the main characters) stay in the hospital for the entirty of the movie and do litterly nothing. At the same time the towns folk are spread out through town to hunt Mikey. As expected, they are all killed.

Mike then returns to his old crib where currently two guys live. Both are very cringy and totally uninteresting, so they die. Allison (Laurie’s granddaughter) then rolls up with her ex bf and his dad and get ambushed by Mike. Dad dies, boyfriend dies, Allison is thrown down the stairs. Yada yada ya… Karen (her mom) is there and stabs Mike in the back and rips his mask off. She lures him onto the street and who would’ve thought: all the towns folk are there with Tommy Doyle at the front. They beat the living shit out of Mike and shoot him in the chest. Then, the most nonsensical thing happens:

Everyone lets their guard down and Michael slashes every loser one by one. Same as with the firemen, they each wait their turn to get killed. At the same time Allison is taken care of by bystanders like the whole thing isn’t happening in front of her eyes. The movie ends by Karen going upstairs and being murdered by Michael while Laurie is rambling some poethic nonsense to Hawkins.

My thoughts:
This movie was a letdown. It put the main characters in the shadow and gave the main stage to totally uninteresting and badly written side characters which no one will ever give a shit about. Every single character apart from the 2018 cast is desperately overacting and total cringe to look at. Therefor, the movie is also full of unnecessary moments. For ex, one other escapee from the mental facility is mistaken for Mike and hunted down by an entire mob inside the hospital (doctors included) and is scared into commiting suicide. The only character in this movie who wasn’t a letdown was Michael Myers himself. He was as brutal as I hoped him to be and I had a giggle or two from his robotic character. Although he was fun to watch, it didn’t save the movie.

The story was pointless and this was a typical in-between movie of a trilogy. It started from 2018s ending and it went nowhere. Making the towns folk gang up against the shape also took away the tension and the fear of something so strong it shouldn’t be human. Mike against the entire town just makes him look small and a little pathetic. I enjoyed the movie nontheless because of how meme worthy it all was. I’d rate it a 6/10 cause I enjoyed Mike, but god the script was total shit and every annoying braindead victim deserved to die.

I would like to end my rant with the most meme worthy kill in horror movie history. This one made me LOL:

So, apparently Laurie went through all that trouble rigging her house and forgot about the one thing that could screw up her entire plan to kill him?

That said, why does Laurie and her family stay in the hospital the entire movie with minor injuries, while Michael Myers is just free to walk around with far more extensive ones?

Plot armor. Someone speculated that he has some kind of disease which makes him not feel pain, but that doesn’t explain how he’s still walking after 5 shots to the chest and multiple stab wounds.

It’s a big mistake to keep Laurie in the hospital for the entire flick and not utilize her character more. She is the goddamn main character ffs :man_facepalming:

Technically, Michael is the main character.

Anyway, I always felt that if Michael’s resilience was not supernatural but physiological, I figured it was a few things. I think he’s got probably a few tumors in his body, likely his brain, pressing on glands in places that interfere with his body chemistry. I think it’s suppressed his ability to feel pain, and is sending out huge jolts of adrenaline and testosterone and cortisol and things like that, amping up his aggression, his strength, and combined with his inability to feel most instances of pain, would allow him to take such sever bearings and just keep going, not really knowing how badly he’s been injured. And as for his surviving so many gunshots, I chalk that up to his healing being amped up higher than a normal person’s, combined with really shitty aim on behalf of the shooters; they just never happen to hit anything vital. Notice how every time something that could happen to destroy his head, or his entire body, is always narrowly avoided?

And this could apply to any version of Michael in any of the continuities. Think of it like he’s one of the “mutant” people in M. Night Shamalan’s Unbreakable trilogy; he’s got “super powers” due to medical conditions affecting him in ways that are normally never detected and appear to be supernatural if viewed outside the context of being medical in nature. But in Michael’s case, it’s screwed up his mental state as well, making him violent beyond all reason. Imagine if that hadn’t happened? If he had never gotten it in his head to kill his sister and then keep going from there, would he have ever even known anything was different about him?

I suppose that could make some amount of sense, but wouldn’t those tumors kill him eventually? What about that time he got shot in the eyes and couldn’t hit anyone? (Granted, he was initially supposed to die there, but it was still undone)

I’m going to say now that my knowledge on the Halloween series is limited

Edit: Nevermind, there are non-lethal tumors, I’m just an idiot

Yeah, my theory uses tumors that are benign, just located where they need to be to make Michael a monster. Or at the very least, are growing very, very slowly.

Yeah, the one where he’s blinded by gunshots, here’s my theory, and keep in mind, this requires the viewer to remember that unbelievably coincidental things happen in horror movies constantly: Laurie shot Michael in the face, but did not actually hit his eyes. In terms of plausibility, there’s no way that Laurie, who has clearly never used a gun before the events of that movie, could double-tap on Michael and have both bullets go through both eyeholes exactly without damaging the mask and blind him. It simply isn’t happening. So since it did happen, that allows this part to work; Laurie shot through the eyeholes, but the bullets hit Michael above his eyes and either embedded there or traced the outside of his skull and popped out the skin and mask at the back of his head. That does happen, as some people have tried to shoot themselves in the head and the bullet hits the skull wrong and just slides along the curve of the skull beneath the skin and bursts out the other side, never penetrating the skull. The blood from the impact points dripped into Michael’s eyes, blinding him, but temporarily. This explains how direct sequels to that film allow Michael’s eyes to still function properly without having him literally regenerating them, keeping him still more or less a physically normal human.

From what I have heard it seems like there is a unique movie about an aging slasher, finally being hunted by his escaped victims and their families trapped no less, in what seems to be a shallow reboot sequel.

I highly enjoy this “reboot” series, well for what it is. Halloween Kills is very much the middle installment in a three series act and it is easily felt. Overall both Halloween Kills and 18 are more interesting compare to most horror and slasher sequels and more engaging the last Friday the 13th entry. I enjoyed both films for what they are.

Security with Antonio Banderas and Ben Kingsley. It’s terrible. It was on netflicks 90 min movies category. Within the first 10 min I looked at my wife and explained the entire movies plot and we laughed bc we knew I was correct.

Serious Spoilers :warning:

Banderas is an out of work veteran (a Marine captain) who takes a job as a mall security guard and on his first night, on the other side of town, Ben Kingsley and his army of commandos intercept a US Marshalls convoy in an attempt to execute the little girl they are transporting. She’s a witness in some big trial of cartel bosses who have killed her whole family. No I’m not making this up. This really is the story for this movie :joy:. So the girl runs through the wilderness until she reaches the mall and then Banderas and his rag tag group of mall security guard friends must fend off a larger, better equipped, and more experienced force to save the girls life.

The acting is all around horrible and the story is full of things that make no sense at all such as Ben Kingsley waiting for over 30 min to have his men enter the mall when he already knows the girl is in there.
I’d love to tell you to stay away from it, but it’s almost so bad it’s good.

I agree with this. Let it be clear that H2018 was a fantastic slasher movie and did all of it right. The writing, the cinematography, the acting, music, etc. Halloween Kills threw all of that overboard and turned out to be another mediocre slasher flick. I still have some hope Halloween Ends will be as good as 2018.

Just saw eternals, not a good movie. Without spoiling anything when the main focus of your movie is the relation between certain characters you need make sure to convince the audience of the realness and strength of this relation. Which eternals doesnt do. The finale also pulls something out of its ass to get resolved. Though it was set previously set up it feels like an asspull due to it not being explained the first time and the second time its used the explanation calls the first use in question

Some characters were great though like Phastos and Druig. Makkari was neat too

3.7/10 do not recommend

I love all the Marvel movies, but I know that most don’t and have certain entries ranked worse than others. Won’t see this one for a while, but to get an idea of how “bad” it is, here’s my question: should Thor: The Dark World fans be thanking it?

yes, i truly believe i got more enjoyment out of dark world than eternals. mostly because modern marvel humour bores me and the cgi action of eternals got really boring

As a fan of the Halloween series I can say that the Script is a lot better compared to the final product that’s my personal opinion.

It’s a slasher film all things considered so dumb and contrived decision making is a given with these type of films. With that being said I have alot of grievances with Halloween Kills.

  • Paul Rudd was initially meant to return to the role of Tommy. This didn’t happened due to scheduling conflicts with Ghostbusters. AMH wasn’t a bad replacement, but his performance fluctuates.

  • The original ending from the final draft of the script was shot and shown in test screenings, but cut from the theatrical release making the film end abruptly.

  • This is was shot and if you look through the trailers and TV Spots you can see frames of it. To top it off DGG is restoring the ending for the home release.

  • Last how the film was shot and edited. For a film which emphasized on violence during a specific scene at the end it was shot and edited to where you really don’t see anything which leaves it simply feeling glass half full for a big moment like that.

HKills was a clearly film rushed into production and with H Ends being slated to start filming soon I don’t look forward to its social commentary aspect where current world situations such as the pandemic will be part of the world with them time jumping by 4 years. 2018-2022.

Probably would’ve made his character more likable, yeah?

Eh, I actually like that they’re bringing back the same actors 40 years later for the same roles. Brings it full circle.

Brian Andrew’s (Tommy in the first film) returning was out of the picture but that is a whole different picture. Rudd’s first acting role was Tommy on Halloween 6. The performance was…. different, but he grew as an actor.

Documentary about these college kids who want to kayak and end up on the trip of a lifetime. I wish they had gotten the guys back together for the interviews. You can tell the crew did one interview with each guy on one day and then moved on to the next. It would have been fun to see them together recounting their stories as a group, but it’s a fun story.

Saw Eternals this weekend, and boy are the audiences back. Long time since I saw so much people in one place.

Eternals is a film with a lot of ideas, characters and concepts, and even at almost 2.5 hours, it doesn’t feel like enough (and that’s with an opening crawl of text to explain some of the background, where I would’ve preferred a narrated opening LOTR style).
I really like a lot of the ideas and concepts, and felt ready to be sucked in to plenty of the character drama (Sprite’s problems with being stuck in a kids body, Thena’s mental illness, and so on), but again, the film doesn’t feel like it’s got space for all of it. It should either have been made into two separate movies, or a TV-series in my opinion. Now stuff like the development of the intelligent Deviant, and his reflections on the similarities between Deviants and Eternals feels mostly inconsequential, when it could have been a much more developed and fascinating part of the story.

I really liked the score by Ramin Djawadi, and the film has a lot of cool visuals. I also definitely liked a bunch of the characters, even though they are lacking in development. Probably the most interested in Druig as a character. Hope to see more.
The action is fun enough and easy to follow. I particularly enjoyed the forest battle but also shorter sequences like the final battle at the gates of Babylon which shows a lot of fun power variation and team work (I wish it was longer).

I did feel entertained throughout most of the film. I don’t think it’s bad, but it is overburdened, and suffers from it.
I think if you’re a fan of Marvel you’re definitely more likely to come out enjoying this than not.
