The Hitman Mission Championship returns. Vote and argue for what missions you feel are the best and the worst of the franchise. We will be going through the 8 mainline Hitman games, narrowing down the list of missions, and the survivors will move onto the quarter-finals, where all 8 game’s missions will be randomly shuffled to fight against one another.

So let us start at the beginning with Codename 47. 5 missions must go, which 8 shall remain?

Rules:

  1. Players get 1 point to add to the board, and 2 points to subtract
  2. Points may be split up how you wish.
  3. No decimalised points allow, so basically no half or quarter points permitted
  4. Players may play the game once per day
  5. Players are not allowed to “save” missed day postings and post multiple times on a single day. If you miss playing on August 1st, you can not play twice on August 2nd.
  6. No duplicate accounts are allowed to play
  7. No account younger than a week is allowed to play
  8. When a mission reaches 0 points, it is immediately removed from the game
  9. The game will end when 5 missions are eliminated, and the 8 missions remaining will move on to the quarter-finals.

The benefit of having run the tournament before on this forum is that it basically allows me to plagiarise myself. My plan is basically to do this pretty much the same as last time. So if anyone wants to suggest changes or problems, well, now is the time.

We’ll start with 8 heats, each heat for each Hitman game. (Codename 47, Silent Assassin, Contracts, Blood Money, Absolution, Hitman (2016), Hitman 2 (2018), Hitman 3.) This will basically get rid of the perceived weakest missions of each game, and the remaining number will be a factor of 4. The numbers would be:

C47: 13 missions, 8 qualify.
2SA: 21 missions, 12 qualify
Con: 13 missions, 8 qualify
Bny: 14 missions, 8 qualify
Abs: 21 missions, 12 qualify
H1: 17 missions, 8 qualify
H2: 15 missions, 8 qualify
H3: 7 missions, 4 qualify

Absolution includes the sniper pre-order level.
Hitman (2016) includes Holiday Hoarders, Hokkaido Snow Festival, the bonus missions (A House Built on Sand, The Icon, Landslide), and the Patient Zero missions.
Hitman 2 includes the 4 kindof sortof bonus missions from the season pass I can’t even remember the names of, and the 3 sniper missions.

I’m not including stuff like the Seven Deadly Sins since they are just fancier Escalations, and the Sarajevo Six, since those are basically glorified Elusive Targets, in my opinion anyway.

It’s not a perfect system, Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2 loses a lot. Hitman 3 has only 7 missions, so takes a pretty big hit by having to jettison 3 main missions at the beginning.

Anyway, this would leave us with 64 missions. These would be sorted by RNG into 4 quarter-finals, each made up of 17 missions each. Either we do what we do last time, each quarter-final has 10 missions remaining, two semi-finals starting with 20 missions, ending with 10 missions, leaving us with 20 missions left for the grand final.

Or we maybe speed up the process a little, the 4 quarter finals become semi-finals. The 17 missions get whittled down to, say, 8 each, and then the final would have a big 32 number of missions for people to vote on.

A Silver Tongue, A Bitter Pill, Embrace of the Serpent and Illusions of Grandeur.

What about a World of Assassination super round after we pick the winner? (Bonus round? Bouns Round??) Instead of it being all three games individually we pitted them all against each other. The WoA is the biggest development in the series since III was released (Freelancer not withstanding)

If that was from memory, you’re doing better than I have. In truth, I think I’ve only played those missions a few times, basically on the day of release, and never touched them again. I will be fascinated if anyone votes for them when we hit the Hitman 2 round.

Yeah, I’m fine doing that. It does feel a bit awkward slicing Hitman (2016), Hitman 2, and Hitman 3 into different chunks, when really for all it matters, they’re all parts of the same game now. But for this to contest to work, it seems like the best way of doing it.

Yeah, wanted to suggest just that - put WoA as the single game it (finally) is. It will make the round a lot longer, but will at least get rid of the disproportionate mission distribution between individual seasons.

Altogether, that would be 39 missions, so narrow it down to 20?

You mean 20 contenders instead of 39, or 20 missions which qualify to the next round?

I mean, there would be 39 contenders in the World of Assassination heat, 19 would be eliminated, and the remaining 20 would move on to the next round.

Ah, ok (wasn’t sure if you’re not talking about splitting it). Yeah, that works fine by me.

On a technical note here - because iirc last time there were occasional hiccups with this - since many of us are in completely different time zones, people should ideally try to put a sufficient amount of time in between their votes (i.e. try not to vote at 23:00 and then again at 0:10, since that would make things confusing and look like the same day to anyone in another time zone, even if for you it were in fact two different days :no_mouth: ).

Ha, you might as well just not put them up there. You can’t even get a meme crowd to vote for them.

Just do main missions and DLC (New York, Maldives, Andaman Sea) for one round and the bonus and sniper ones for another.

This crossed my mind as well, but I think Landslide and AHBOS would have an unfair advantage (the former likely winning by a landslide). Still, it is a valid option.

If it is an unfair advantage then IO should have just did more for the “Special Assignments”. Besides it is no more unfair than Absolution which would pit the very charitable described “Hitmanesque” levels like Hunter and Hunted or Shaving Lenny against shit like Welcome to Hope or End of the Road.
