I hope it doesn’t reset for everyone that has already completed it? it took me absolutely ages to complete the second stage of the Arcade version!
Don’t think Arcade would be affected, just the actual ET.
If they only reactivated all the old ETs only for people who originally failed them, then people who haven’t failed them would have had very little to bring them back to the game for the past several years.
That’s more an issue with how the live service has been handled than anything else.
Week 1 - New challenge or a rarer larger addition like a Celeb ET + DLC Pack,
Week 2 - A legacy escalation from Hitman 2016 brought back. (38 available)
Week 3 - New challenge + Featured Contract Batch,
Week 4 - legacy challenges from 2016/2 brought back. (18 challenge packs to restore, plus several loose challenges which could be restored separately from the packs)
Boom, several years’ worth of content without relying on the same ETs which have appeared 8+ times in this game already and still not requiring that much dev time to make stuff for the game.
Okay, but that’s still just relying on reused or re-added content to pad out the roadmap, which isn’t any better. The only positive here is they’d be bringing back old stuff, but that greatly depends on what they’d bring back; I don’t think anyone would want them to reinstate “The Lupei Sensitivity” escalation or the “King of the Castle” challenge, for example, not without heavy edits to both. They were known to be frustrating and outright unfair toward players when they were active.
Another issue is that this plan reflects the roadmap of this year, which has been pretty bland and frustratingly consistent overall. Fans got pretty much what we predicted throughout Year 4, to the point where it got kinda boring to follow and remember (and couple that with IO’s unwillingness to talk for much of the year…), so adding a consistent stream of reused content is not gonna make us happier in that regard either. If they were to add reused content back, just do it in larger batches, not a drip-feed of challenges and escalations – It makes them look lazy, is all.
This is not a clean solution, and I dare say several of the challenges and escalations shouldn’t be brought back.
An issue with relying on bringing back old challenges as content, is that those that had them completed in H2 and did the carryover instantly miss out on all of them as they’ll be marked as done.
During Y1, when the legacy ETs were activated the challenges were already marked off as complete because they were already marked off in the profile data that was copied over from H2. I can’t see them bothering to create different internal IDs for the challenges (when they didn’t for the ETs in Y1) just so players could redo them.
Also, those challenges were all scrapped for reasons. Those reasons haven’t vanished just because they may want to supply content for little effort.
@lukefsje If this suggestion sees the return of either “Tuppence a Wish” or “Slam Dunk!”, I will hunt you down.
In a morbid way, you could argue that if this bug hadn’t happened to anybody else other than you, would IOI have been pushed to reset the ET? Probably not. So it’s actually a good thing as many people on Twitter, Reddit, here etc encountered this issue as I doubt IOI would have done anything this significant otherwise.
Either way, it’s a good thing. Good luck with your retry!
It’s very funny when IO says something like this, only to eventually disprove it themselves.
No wait, that’s not funny…that’s very misleading and frustrating when they do this. There, that’s better.
Well, unless their response contained other details, technically speaking, reactivation isn’t possible. A) the latest update states a “reset,” not a reactivation. And B) they could have just been referring to reactivation on an individual basis, depending on how they worded the reply.
(Because I’ve been almost exclusively negatively critical lately. A bit unfairly. And I kinda feel bad about it.)
An appreciation post for the new Gear Wall section in Freelancer:
I know that it was a request, and a fair critic of the reviews of the DLCs integrations. Especially when compared to the integration of the Street Art and Makeshift pack.
(Cassidy review of the Disruptor Pack ft Softie the Cat comes to mind)
So really good on IOI for seeking out this feedback and acting on it.
It’s also well acted on: the prices are consistent between the consumable tools and the weapons, the vinyl counts as a shuriken for the objective, they were added to the syndicate reward loot table…
It’s purposeful. (and that’s what I like , and kept pestering about for a year so…)
As a bonus it’s acknowledgement of the paid pack but not a “we add more items and the kitchen sink for the sake of it to the point of diluting the quality of the mode and its curated selection of items”
It’s great content. I love it.
I played it and i liked it
I’ve drown into thoughts. And I’m pretty sure there won’t be any ET reruns this year. And the Disruptor is the main cause.
I haven’t jumped into Freelancer since the update, do the DLC items automatically appear here if you’ve purchased them or do you have to buy these from the supplier?
Forgive me been a good few months since I jumped into Freelancer!
Guess I really did miss Heartbreaker then thanks to the Roadmapless release earlier this year.
That must be … heartbreaking?
Christ, what a deep cut reference.
Not true. Last year with the ET galore they did not reactivate CelebrETs (the drop)
It wasn’t reactivated because he was the last target before the galore.
huh? I was saying the dispruptor doesn’t have anything to do the Galore not coming back as celebEts aren’t part of the event (if they were io would have excluded him). They just chose not to do it for whatever reason or delayed it to January. Sorry!
