(Spoilers) 007 First Light Discussion Thread

Graphics and Gameplay is excellent.

The controller feels the same as Hitman.

Just got home the 24 early access is nice. All though I’ll only play a few as it’s a work night.

Excellent opening mission.

after finding the camp , the stealth of getting a disquise, being in a quarantine area, getting a medical shot after getting infected.

then freeing both soldiers and the escape with the big explosion was excellent

What’d they do there?

I’ve finished the Aleph mission and I’m enjoying the game a lot so far! Gorgeous missions and really expansive and immersive locations. Very charming story and better than 90% of the films imo. The gadgets mechanic was never a part of the game I was sold on during the promos but actually playing it, it’s very smooth and well-designed.

There’s only a couple problems I’ve found with the game. The obvious one being the suits and TacSims which is already a big discussion here so I won’t get into it. The other ones is that running feels incredibly slow, much slower than 47’s jog in WOA, and that going through crowds is a bit clunky and not as smooth as WOA, you’ll randomly bump into people for not much reason and it gets a bit irritating

From last evening session, I had a disastrous first mandatory shoutout (airstrip), and the messiest tier 3 escalation.
Could not get to have the game do what I wanted to input.

After some hindsight:

  • I first swapped to the “Hitman” control preset (swap Qlens and sprint, to where instinct and sprint are in Hitman).
  • Tried about a few other things, notably the dash/dash to cover to B.

Smoother gameplay since. Might still tweak things around, like reload and whatnot.
I even had fun in the escalations after.

BUT the charge and grab rush are still RB+X and RB+RT, with no way to bring them to parallel to the sprint into LB+X and LB+RT. Which I think could be better, at least an option.
And it created conflicts between them and the Qlens when in combat, even if with just the Hitman preset and no other changes.
Custom mapping do not allow for double-input combinations.

@IOI_Artjoms this is a sincere feedback to the devs.

The game is excellent to go through.

A question for people in this thread: what is offline mode like? What is save progression like? Is the game’s campaign feasible to play without an internet connection?

Also a question for people: I’ve seen bits of footage involving QTEs in cutscenes and time-limited dialogue choices in some scenes.

Are the QTEs failstates or do they just do something different if you fail them?
And the dialogues, same deal? Can you “fail” one opportunity if you mess up the dialogue prompt in time and need to find a different approach for the mission?

I’ve played the first half of the tutorial. Game is gorgeous.

I like how you’re not allowed to crouch in public places because it would raise suspicion. Contrast this with crouching in public and raising suspicion in Hitman. Hitman is a goofy game.

Holy moly you guys the makers of Hitman made a game that’s different than Hitman. Let’s mention that every chance we get. (Some game reviewer, somewhere.)

Hence why 47 is the foil to his own game that’s about him.

Saw this article that pushes back on some of the ‘woke’ comments.

Some James Bond fans are some of the most annoying people on the planet

The challenges in this game seem to be a bit… uninspired. Its mostly “do this section stealthy” or “do this section by killing everyone”.

Well I finished the campaign - it was a lot of fun, a few minor gripes (like Lenny Kravitz being a bit of a damp squib of a character) but I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next instalment.

Now onto TacSim…

Are there any youtube playthroughs that listen to lots of ambient dialogue? All the ones I can find seem to be in a tremendous hurry to finish objectives as fast as possible. I wanted to see what happened if you walked up to Greenway at the chess tournament…

Also what is the replayability like? Hitman has kept me engaged for hundreds of hours, wondering if this has the same staying power.

I have so far completed the London nightclub and did the first TacSim. Really enjoying it so far. I was pleased that the TacSim escalation I did had more objective variety than what I am used to in Hitman but I am hoping that wasn’t a one off.

Had friend give me a PS5 disc that they took from their work (which I didn’t ask them to do). So guess I’m playing this after all…

This reads more like a hit piece than anything. Some people are idiots agreed, but The Gamer here is accrediting these comments to all gamers.

Well, it’s different from Hitman, which isn’t really a bad thing. The combat is really good and fluid but the license to kill is a bit funny as you can kill without it (I accidentally threw a man in the training facility down a 20ft cliff and into the ocean, whoops.). I like the gunplay and the hotel mission was great! I loved how many routes there were. So far I’d say it’s a great evolution to Hitman and I can’t wait to play the third mission tonight.

No… the writer isn’t doing this… at all. They said the exact opposite of this, in fact:

holy sh!t, 007 First Light is bringing out the larpers.

The article is highlighting a specific portion of people online who are larping as James Bond fans, whilst clearly knowing nothing about Bond, to stoke ‘anti-woke’ backlash nonsense.

The writer uses one example of a post he’s seen, but makes very clear that this post is being taken to task by other people in the replies (i.e., it’s obviously not “all gamers”)…

A post on X has been making the rounds… but the comments and quote retweets sum it up nicely: “Can some of you dumb a**es at least watch a few of the movies before you say dumb sh!t like this?”

The writer is also careful to specify that it’s only “some commenters” who are in agreement with the original poster…

Still, the poster, and some commenters, are convinced that this is somehow a “total disrespect to Bond’s legacy,”

And, again, he clarifies that it’s a select few people who are the usual suspects always coming out with this rubbish whenever a new game releases…

the same few names constantly jump onto new games and movies to find whatever they can to drum up anti-woke outrage

And lastly he references the quality of the “discussion” on Steam…

The Steam Forums are equally littered with people complaining that “everyone is black”

This statement is just objectively true when taking a look over there.

Not once does this (very short) article mention the word “gamers”. At no point does it do anything close to resembling “accrediting these comments to all games”.

It’s only the headline which contains the phrase “Gamers are mad”. It sounds like you’ve only read the headline, imagined what the article might say, and got angry at your made-up article.
