(Spoilers) 007 First Light Discussion Thread

Noted!

Thanks for flagging and glad you enjoyed TacSim a bit more after remapping.

Cheers, I did.

If you are flagging the control preset, know that they also create conflict with the “highlight Q-Lens and signal to your allies” set pieces (Greenaway support fire in Vietnam, and Wrecky in Antartica)

It softlocks the game, and glitches the HUD.

Since both actions are on the same button (RB), the first reassigned by the preset, the second hard coded in.

(I also made a mistake: it’s charge and grab rush that are in conflict with the Hitman preset, not grab and grab rush)

Thanks for it all.

Thank you for your response =)

I’m not fond of the logic of “everyone else does it, therefore it’s fine for us to do it as well!”, which in my eyes, just makes the bad business practice more palatable. Because X didn’t start doing it first, Y did, therefore it’s okay for X to do it as well because Y paved the way.

It’s perhaps the worst kind of follow the leader syndrome in the gaming industry, and I hate it. Just because X can do it, doesn’t mean they should.

I think I found a bug. I have a level 4 clearance in Tacsim, but the achievement for getting a level 3 clearance never fired. This is on Steam

Holy moly, ”Its been fun, but I’m going to have to break this off” is a GREAT line from serial womanizer James Bond during a boss fight.

Amazing writing throughout this game in my opinion. Kudos IOI.

I also had this (also steam). The clearance level achievement and ALL of the collectibles achievements failed to unlock. Personally I fixed it manually with SAM, but it’s clearly an issue.

So why does one of the Murto twins throw out that guy’s luggage? Do we get an explanation for that and I missed it?

The guy was in a hurry to do a crime, not deliver the luggage he had to take while in disguise.

After 100% the campaign challenges mid week-end.
I have now 100% the last of the TacSim challenges this evening.
And with it the whole game.
(thank you to the oil barrel slip and the laser strap, the MVPs of the Runner challenge in the Gauntlet)

This game is gorgeous, you can feel the air.

For information: Clearance Level 15 is the current maximum, which is also the requirement for the missile pen gadget.

You need to complete almost every challenge for it, you have about a 1000XP, or one to two challenges, of leeway for it.

This might be a Featured Contract Track Unlocks in Year 1 situation: requirement for the future new unlocks could go in parallel as the maximum made possible by future new content releases. At first at least.

That kind of jumper and a not FAL-G3, a game after my own heart.

The TacSim is very promising.
I hope more is done with it.
I can already glimpse the still locked 2nd and 3rd upgrade slots for the gadgets, and for how powerful a single upgrade can be, end-end play will be interesting.

I really liked the “No Gadget” challenges, I was going to try to do so by myself since some of the pre-release interview talking about gadgets gave me the idea.
But having them acknowledged and rewarded by the game is even better.

I love the dialogues in the HUB. :orange_heart:
From the support staff dialogues, to the unique barks for every outfits.

Fun fact: even if unlocked you cannot use the Missile Pen to cheese the Gauntlet. Oil puddles will still do the unexpected though.

Some start-of-the-game-state things though:

  • The menu is a sincere worry.
Everything is in a single line you go left to right through.
It will be terrible once enough content is released
It might be good to change it to a grid.

  • Some of the challenges might need to be retuned.
Especially the ones for the Clean Infiltration op.
The gameplay is not made to be precise, and the game reactions are too organic to be consistent. It’s great for improvisation and encouraging on-the-fly thinking, but terrible for some of the current challenges.
In general, tuning down the difficulty might be good. Did every operation need to have the Powerful Enemies game changers? Is it fun? Were they here the whole time?

And by now my wishlist for long form, depth and width, TacSim replay content of checkpoint or sequence of checkpoints of the story campaign is well known.

Small things to signal: the texture of the Event Staff Uniform textures glitch out, and the Ops Radiant outfit when crouched have its belt disappear, creating a floating chest. @IOI_Artjoms

Finally got the chance to start playing this game tonight. Overall, a good start. I see what people mean when they say it feels like Absolution, but I’m also detecting a little bit of Resident Evil from it, mainly in the intro mission with the environmental instability causing Bond to stagger around at times.

Played all the way to where advanced training is about to begin and decided to stop there. I like the set up, I love the voice work, the combat and driving and overall controls feel like they’ll take some getting used to, but the whole training montage felt a little like the one from the original Assassin’s Creed, albeit with a modern flavor.

The one thing I don’t like so far, and it’s bothered me every single second I’ve been playing this game, just as it’s bothered me since the first images came out, is that fucking scar on Bond’s face. I don’t care if it’s part of the character in the original novel, I don’t care what justification was used in the decision to put it there, I hope whoever thought it was a good idea to put that scar on Bond’s face gets kicked right in the fucking nuts, or ovaries if it was a woman’s idea. It’s distracting, it’s hideous, it’s logically nonsensical considering he’s supposed to be a spy that they just now decided to recruit and they can see this big flashing look at me and notice me scar on his face and they think he’s gonna be good for espionage? I hate that fucking scar. I mean it, right in whatever equipment they have between the legs, whoever’s goddamned idea it was, with the force of a World Cup goal kick from halfway across the field.

Aside from that, having fun, and I look forward to the next time I can pick it up.

I think IO missed the point about why subtitles exist here. :joy:

This seems excessive.

They never do this anymore

The one thing I don’t like so far, and it’s bothered me every single second I’ve been playing this game, just as it’s bothered me since the first images came out, is that fucking barcode on the back of 47’s head. I don’t care if it was put there in order so that C47 players weren’t bored of staring at a featureless bald dome due to technical limitations of the period, I don’t care what justification was used in the decision to put it there, I hope whoever thought it was a good idea to put that barcode on the back of 47’s head gets kicked right in the fucking nuts, or ovaries if it was a woman’s idea. It’s distracting, it’s hideous, it’s logically nonsensical considering he’s supposed to be an assassin that they just now decided to recruit and they can see this big flashing look at me and notice me barcode on his head and they think he’s gonna be good for covert assassinations? I hate that fucking barcode. Not even comparable. 47’s tattoo is small, out of the way, rarely seen and barely acknowledged. The most focus it ever got was at the beginning of Absolution when he cut it. Being small and on the back of the head, which is not the first place a person looks for on another person, keeps it from standing out when trying to be stealthy.

Bond’s facial scar is front and center, unavoidable, and shown every time he’s onscreen, which in a cinematic game with heavy emphasis on the characters’ likeness to their actors, is considerable. And we have to see that hideous scar every single time. And so does every single person who even looks Bond’s way from across a a crowded room, making any effort at blending in immediately null and void. Stupid inclusion.

Ian Fleming’s sketch be like

Ian Fleming’s sketch doesn’t matter. That’s the novels. The Bond that most people are familiar with from the movies is a very different character. This game is IOI’s attempt at making a playable version of the movie version, just with a reboot of story continuity thrown in. There is no reason to include that stupid scar.

Good news!
As said by Arti, it has been fixed in the new 1.02 hotfix, just released.
Less than a day.

A patch proper is in the pipeline.

No one tell Heisenberg that the scar heals throughout the game and is invisible at the end.

I’m a decent way through the game. Managed to get a whole lotta gaming in for the first time in a minute.

I’m at Webb Industries doing a safe puzzle.

There a lot I like about the game, but by extension because of the linearity it’s repetitive. I ran into a few issues where inputs weren’t registering as intended during fist fights, but nothing game breaking. Also experienced an issue where I got detected through a wall during a take down in the Knightfall Mission.

I really wish the game expanded upon loadouts, the Q-Gadgets is just a drop in the bucket and messing around with all the games systems down to door sabotaging just emphasizes more issues than anything else.

don’t get me wrong, love the game. But after stress testing systems that this game has you can easily confuse the AI and also witness glass piercing taser that the enemy has.

Other than that my major concern is just post launch. I just don’t see Tac Sim being an ends to a means for longevity. Vehicle missions are coming but beyond that I don’t know. More of the same?

hopefully more inspired content releases. IO has the opportunity to use the past to their advantage and create non canonical simulations of beats from past events from Bond as a legacy. but we will see as things unfold.

otherwise I’m loving the game.

Guess what location I found under MI6 surveillance in Operation?
(easter egg only in the last chapter, it’s a “normal” surveillance screen in the others)

I also appreciate that the keyboards used are actual QWERTY UK variants.
