Technique for getting more point scores after mission:
Would I get more points by killing 100 NPC/bad guys and successfully hide their bodies with witnesses present or 10 NPC/bad guys when no one is around when hiding the bodies successfully and getting the 25 pts? What should be the procedure/plan for scoring more points when the game is ended and tallied??
So, to clarify, is it best to kill 10-25 non-targets and not be seen (because they can alert guards, etc.) over killing 100-200 which could kill me after I’m seen by bystanders who rat on me? … Thanks, Floople..
I’m not sure I understood the question right, but seems you’re talking about earning XP for getting rid of NPCs.
As Floopie has said, you will lose points for killing non-target NPCs, but you’ll gain a few by hiding their bodies.
For the best score in hiding bodies, you should knock them out unwitnessed and wait for XP popup for silent takedown. Then hide a body and you’ll get another 25 XP for hiding it.
This way you’ll get 50 XP rather than 25 XP for hiding lifeless body
Scored Points for higher leaderboard placements would really depend on a few things between mission completion times, optional objectives, and main objectives.
The reality is it isn’t about what you all do within that run, but rather what all you can do within a short span of time per run.
Yep. I’m trying to increase my points at the end of each mission. I tried getting through the game by killing the people, than hurrying up to the exit. I hardly got any points. I was wondering if I can increase the points. I tried killing as many as possible, than try and hide them. I found that just putting them in the weeds, lake when no one was watching would get me points, but it didn’t. I found that about the only way to get a points was to put them in a closed/trunk or some designated place which gives points. I was wondering if I could kill as many as possible without being noticed would gather me more points. OR I can kill many and drop them where I get 25 pts, but with some watching. What’s the best technique to get points without an imbalance of penalty points.
I want the ULTIMATE to end each mission and get the most points, so technique is important. I don’t do challenges because I’m a novice/unskilled compared to most. I NEED the ability to do missions which allow me unlimited saves. I was wondering HOW to gain the ending points, but MOST end in 1000 pts. which hardly moves the needle.
I don’t do “freelancer” or Challenges due to inability to SAVE freely/unlimited on many as a novice. However, My main question: …kill as many as possible with spectators or kill much less without detection of them?
Huh? Are you saying that the quicker I get through the mission by killing the objectives - the better the outcome in points at the end of the missions? (I don’t know about “leaderboards” but just the points at each mission end which always tells me things about myself - like hoarder or mass murderer, etc. …
If you’re referring to mission score when you mean points then yes, the amount of time you take completing a mission can dictate the most possible “points” or mission score you can get. It’s why often or not the people ranking high on leaderboards manage level completion in the most optimal way to get those scores.
While play-style can factor into mission score Silent Assassins won’t be the deciding factor, which is why cutting down time within a level is important.
On the flip side If by points you mean XP based actions then any action in the game that warrants XP even if it’s tedious is the way to do it. Non lethal eliminations, hiding bodies, destroying evidence, lockpicking doors, etc.
I’m interested in increasing the number, but the classification AND the points SCORED after each mission. I’ve been getting lots of 1000 pts. and look forward to 4-6,000 per game. I’m so tired of seeing “hoarder”, and other degrading classifications. I’m STILL a novice, even after 2 yrs. playing it. I understand that my age (80), that it’s a bit more tougher than someone at age 21-45 in attaining game skill levels and quick responses/clarity of mind, but since I’m still playing the lowest of skill levels (Easy skill level/novice), perhaps I should be able to upgrade. I can’t get past this skill without degrading titles.
I know nothing about “leaderboards”. I only gauge on a temporary title/points after each mission such as 2000,4000. I can only achieve about 1000 per mission and I consider 2000, a bit of success. I consider 3-6000 (which happens very rarely) a happy day. I don’t know what XP means, but here’s how I play. I try to avoid needless kills unless I see they give away my position to a guard, etc. When at a point such as direct confrontation, I either run or perhaps having obtained an automatic weapon shoot my way through. If given time without witnesses, try to hide the bodies. I don’t know WHAT it is I must do to attain a more gratuitous higher episode point score (i.e. 1000, 2000, etc).
Given this and how it seems like it’s a consistent approach for you when navigating these levels this is where the issue is.
If you want more “points” then don’t get caught, only kill targets and avoid unnecessary casualties from either guards or any non target, hide the targets bodies and unconscious bodies of anyone you knocked out and destroy evidence.
Killing or improperly disposing of a body and unconscious body leading to death can easily negate score. Getting caught in restricted areas or anything that can compromise you can also negate points.
Instead of needlessly killing distract them with a thrown object and subdue them.
Just change your approach and try new things that make your approach less lethal and more stealth oriented.
It sounds from the conversation that the “score” you’re really concerned with here is the one that populates this progress bar:
If that’s the case, then the most salient metrics are the challenges and activities within the mission that you accomplish. In that final screen, on the bottom left, you should see some options like what is circled below:
I don’t know what sort of system you’re playing on so that might be a different button if you’re using a keyboard or Xbox controller or whatever the Switch looks like, but it should be there. Your screenshot is for the mission “The Final Test” so it may be a little different than a normal map, but it should be there. If you go into that “Detailed Score/XP” option, it breaks down the specific points you got as well as any subtractions (like for non-target kills). That should give you a sense of how your score is built.
You get points for things like changing disguises, hiding bodies, unlocking doors, and that sort of thing and you get deductions for things like taking out non-targets, getting spotted, etc. I’d start paying attention to those points and trying to stick as close to a “silent assassin” playstyle as you can. It’s not mandatory to play exclusively silent assassin but the closer to it you manage, the higher (generally) your score will be.
If you can complete challenges while you play, that will add a lot of points to your final score. Getting point totals of 2000 and higher typically will require completing at least a challenge or two. Eventually you’ll run out of those and those big point totals will be out of reach, but as long as you have them, do the challenges while you play. Most of them are either killing a target a specific way, completing specific feats within the level (like moving a briefcase across the level while wearing a specific outfit), and that sort of thing.
I hate to use the “get gud” trope but that’s your best bet on getting a higher score for the level. Just try to get as close as you can to a silent assassin play style and avoid anything that causes negative scores.
Thanks for the lengthy response. Much made sense (in exception of terms that I’ve not known like “Get Gud trope” or “salient metrics”. I’ve learned to “sneak up” on someone like “targets”. Perhaps you also mean bypass innocents who might rat and only target the 1-4 targets. I was worried about just getting caught by a “rat” telling on me. What’s the best suggestion about what gains points and what to avoid doing. That might help somewhat. Thanks to you and others for suggestions as I’m not that skilled as many advanced. I’ve never played role-playing or one-person missions.
When you ask about “killing” NPCs or bad guys… The only NPCs you should kill are the targets. That’s the only and best way to increase your score.
If you have to kill any non-target NPCs, the fewer the better. Hiding bodies might give a little XP, but I’m not sure if that’s what you’re asking about.
Any other kills or getting caught committing a crime (where the NPC turns yellow in instinct) will only deduct from the total points you could get at the end of a mission.
There is, however, a mechanic that would require you to KO or subdue a civilian NPC before they “rat” on you to a guard. This usually happens when you’re spotted trespassing by (as stated before) non-guard NPCs. However, such a scenario would require specific conditions. Like, the civi would have to run past you, and there would be no other NPCs to see you subdue them. You cannot let them see you attack them either, because that would compromise you - and thus irredeemably lose points. You could also throw a non-lethal melee item at them if they have their back turned to you, as they’re going to get a guard.
It’s been suggested that you watch others who are good at the game. But I wouldn’t suggest watching vids from most speedrunners. They have an advanced knowledge of the game and its mechanics, and you’ll likely only end up being confused.
Lots of skilled players that I’ve seen in youtube videos show mostly head shots, and violent kills. I never see them being dumped into containers but “in a hurry” to kill the next person in the way. I always try to put in containers or dump where I’m given 25 pts. after a dump (witnessed or not).
