I tried watching that video, but I gave up as soon as he started comparing the games to other “remasters” like Spyro, Mafia and more. He clearly doesn’t know the difference between a complete remake and a remaster.
Hilariously though, the section in the video is named “Remaster VS Remake”, yet the topic is never addressed because he instead focuses on the term “Definitive Edition” which really means absolutely nothing - after all H1 had a DE and literally nothing changed, just that it was bundled with DLC.
It’s just hard to take someone’s criticisms seriously (this specific YouTuber, not everyone making similar videos) when the core of his reasoning is based on the fact that these remasters, not remakes, should have been on the same tier as Spyro and Mafia. He may as well have been comparing a banana to a chair.
While he was comparing the Definitive Edition to those games, he was clearly showing of what a Remake should look like if they went in that direction and what a true Remaster looks like if they at least put more effort in the development.
You’re not forced to watch the video but I doubt you “tried”. The video was 30 minutes long and he talks about Remakes vs Remasters for only 5 minutes at the begining. At least watch the rest and see if it was just that one part that had a mistake or the entire video is bogus before assuming that this youtuber is spewing bs.
As a huge fan of the original ps2 gta trilogy, i immediately bought the definitive edition pack without reading the reviews cuz i had developed a lot of trust and love for R* as a company over the years. Bad fucking mistake on my part, as impressive as some of the changes are, so much is broken and half-assed it’s baffling to think that this is the same company i knew and love as a kid (except it kinda isn’t cuz none of the OG devs are working anymore).
I appreciate the upgraded graphics but jesus christ so much is fucked and broken.
I don’t care for character models so much. I’d say if the stuff I listed is fixed I’d be pretty happy with San Andreas. I simply want that color and charm from the PS2 release back.
Been enjoying slowly going through the Definite Edition - but I failed the “Yay Ka-Boom-Boom” mission in San Andreas and upon trying to restart the mission, the game crashed and presumably corrupted my save data because everytime I boot up and try to resume - the game crashes again.
The PS5 auto-synced the saved data too, so I have no choice to start all over again but I’m not going to.
Does anyone else feel let down that Rockstar forgot Vice City Stories in their remaster plan? I want to go back to this aesthetic and just look at the sun go down
Greedy bastards probably looked at the sales for Liberty City Stories on mobile and weren’t happy with them so they never bothered to port it on phones, let alone port both LCS and VCS to curent gen consoles / PCs.
Well, yes, but given how the main trilogy remasters turned out, actually no… I would definitely love having both LCS and VCS (and CW) finally on PC though…
I have little to no beef with the remasters. Found both III and vice city perfectly enjoyable.
In GTA Vice City the reaching Godfather rank achievement bothers me though. That grind is impossible and even the shortcut is annoying to do.
