The negativity towards Hitman 3

I need to dive into those, I mostly only play whats featured or anything interesting on trending

Someone on tumblr posted this video today and I can’t agree more on what she says:

It focuses on the story of Hitman and the world of assassination trilogy and not on the whole too expensive, only escalations etc. things but she shows very good, how bad the story was, compared to the other two games and how little effort the writers put into the story. But she does it with constructive criticism and good analysis.

I think it’s worth watching for those of you who played the games because of the story

As a fan of long form analysis this one was very interesting, mostly because i dont really agree with her points on the hitman 3 story, yet i agree with her assessment of the 2016 and 2 stories (with some small exceptions, mostly about lucas grey). Me disagreeing with her take on lucas is probably why i disagree with her take on hitman 3s story. excellent video and a worthwhile watch. very happy to see a different look on the story and to see criticism of hitman 3 that isnt the same old drivel of ioi greedy hurr too little content durr.

Agree with some points on the story . Though did make me wonder if the game was meant to be bigger with some of plot points she mentioned, but was scaled back based on initial sales from Hitman 2 to make more of a profit. As a result the story was dialled back a bit as well.

Problem with that is not that it is untrue (Quite the Contrary), but that it is something which is tiring to hear over and over again.

Very good video, interesting watch!

There are multiple things that i dont like about the WoA Storyline.

Lucas Grey being another Clone. 47 letting Grey inject him Anti Amnesia Juice. 47 Killing Dianas Parents. Providence being responsible for the creation of 47 it takes away from Codename 47s story and the Five Fathers, so its unacceptable for me, 47 destroying the ICA.

All this crap could have been handled so much better in my opinion, but it is what it is.

I hope they get a better Writer for the next Game and i hope they won’t do a Trilogy like WoA again.

Why not? I found it to be great thing to happen to hitman. Because all i ever wanted is more locations, where i can do more of the same.

To be honest I feel like I’ve bought more or less the same Game but 3 times. There were not enough updates in mechanics from game to game and it got quite stale for me.

Also 6 Missions per Game just isnt enough, i think 12 should be the norm for a Hitman Game - i dont need all them as huge as the WoA Levels tbh.

Maybe I’m just a weirdo.

I kinda agree on that. And maybe even the story would have turned out better if they just had made one big game than three “smaller” ones.

Would already help if it were 6 real sandbox maps like H2016. (looking at you Hawke and Romania :face_vomiting: )

Yeah thats another thing, promising 6 locations with 20 Mastery Levels and then you have Hawkes Bay, Carpathian Mountains and Another Life with only 5 or 15 level.

I actually like Carpathian Mountains, but its hardly a “Sandbox”, its a Corridor.

I dont care about mastery levels, so i wouldnt put another life in the same category as those 2 trash maps.

They just need to be good sandbox maps with lots of replayability, also for contracts mode

That’s a the first time I’ve seen someone say they like Romania.

It’s not difficult but still painful to play for me. Awful “map” lol.

My personal opinion, I think Hitman 3 had a much better story than Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2.

The story had me gripped from start to finish. The tone and the atmosphere had dark vibes very much like Contracts which I also thought was great. A lot of fans had been waiting for that for a long time.

Says something as well when sales for Hitman 3 blew Hitman (2016) and Hitman 2.

Everyone has their opinions though :slightly_smiling_face:

Although I think WOA was the best we’ve got from Hitman in a decade, I agree that another trilogy is far from neccesary. Like you said, the whole thing got stale by the time H3 got released. I remember playing Dubai for the first time and thinking to myself how none of it felt really “new” anymore.

Hitman games can’t have enough missions for me, however the quality of each map/mission needs to be of equal quality. I respect smaller maps but if it’s all Hawkes Bay or Carpathian Mountains its straight up trash. A few subtle build-up missions like in C47 - Contracts wouldn’t hurt too. Always liked the anticipation for the real target. This trilogy could use a few, since especially during H2’s part of the story everything seemed to go off on tangents. (See: Mumbai - Whittleton Creek turn of events).

Next time a game about just 47’s legacy of being the best in his field, with about 16 missions, would be perfect. Possibly makes it more easier to pick interesting mission locations without restricting themselves to a mediocre story.

Yeah if they cant right a decent story they probably should do a “Redacted: The ICA Files” Thing like Contracts or Blood Money.

The Story could be set after 47s apparent death and is narrrated by Diana who reviews the Files of the Hits they worked on together or something like that.

Hitman 3 was the one to nail the dark tone quite consistently where as H1 when tried , struggled to keep it interesting and consistent (Marrakesh, Colorado). H2 did it bit better (Mumbai and Hawkes Bay) but some maps still struggled.

Though would hold off sales argument as each game was plagued by it’s own problems (really poor marketing for H1 and terrible choice of release date for H2)

Yeah, can see that. Was thinking on this as much preferred the Sarajevo 6 and Patient Zero stories then the main story.

I think a new Hitman story would work better as an anthology series like each plot being 3-4 missions long with a few one shots even if using existing locations from previous missions.

I also think IOI shouldnt do a trilogy again for any other franchise because we came so close to not having the story finished. And i hate when that happens, weird example but My Name is Earl had a great finale planned but was cancelled before it could happen
