Friendly Reminder for People with 3DS and Wii U’s. The E-Shop will be closing its doors next month.
If you still have a backlog of games you want to get before the closure like virtual console titles I recommend adding funds on your Switch since they persist across all E-Shops, I plan on picking up a few titles before the closure just so I can say goodbye to the E-Shop without have regrets of missing out.
That being said for 3DS Owners since the E-Shop is closing I’d like to state that getting physical copies will become a task simply due to Retro Game Collecting being hyper inflated in recent years. If you aren’t intimidated by the task I recommend looking into Homebrew once a lot of the games on the E-Shop become abandonware overnight.

So I’ve been looking into expanding my Nintendo Handheld.
Currently as of writing this I own a Nintendo New 2DS, but admittedly I’m not a big fan of the system.
My biggest issues with the system mainly are that it feels flimsy and just and just hand cramp city… oh and I don’t like turquoise. I’ve made it no secret that I’ve added custom firmware for the sake of backing up physicals so the overall versatility of my system I’m more than satisfied with.
That being said my intentions in the near future is I plan on getting a Nintendo New 3DS XL which I’ll be keeping entirely unmodified which also will be the final resting place of my Nintendo Network ID and 3DS Digital Purchases. The unfortunate part of finding one for a decent price while being in a good condition. I also just want stereoscopic 3D.
Moving on I’m looking to buy a Nintendo DS Lite, this is largely cause of its compatibility for GBA Titles since I plan on buying a copy of Fire Red and Emerald with Emerald I’ll bring replacing the internal battery for the cartridge so the game works properly. As much as I’d like to get a Gameboy Advance SP, the DS is a sensible and cheaper option since I’ll be able to also run DS Games in their native resolution without image blur that’s caused on 3DS Systems/2DS Systems as-well.
Why am I doing this? I want to expand my handheld system library cause while I value emulation. I at its core enjoy playing on original hardware cause that type of thing matters to me as simple as that.

Splatoon’s limited time events are way too limited.
Splatfests and recently Big Runs, both just 48hrs, not even covering a full weekend. That sucks.
7pm Friday to 7pm Sunday. (Or for Pacific time, 4pmF to 4pmSun. That’s wild.)
I don’t always keep very up-to-date on them, but so far in the last two splatfests, I’ve only played in the second half when teams are forced into specific attacking/defending sides on special tri-colour battles.
The first big run I played both days, but it still felt too short for a special thing. This weekend’s I totally missed, was busy most of today, and only got myself some time to play for just under 45 mins at the end, only played 4 matches – won two – but wow, now it’s gone.

There’s a Direct for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, showing 10 minutes of gameplay in 9 hours, 19 minutes.

That seems uncannily early. Cool

How about that gameplay demo eh?
They are really emphasizing creativity and freedom of exploration in many new ways this time around.
Feeling some very heavy immersive sim DNA with the ability to fuse new weapons together and glue the many physics based objects together to create new ways to travel.
I’m hoping there is enough added in the main world to keep players busy and not feel like a 70$ expansion to BOTW.
The fact that this comes out on May 12 is insane.

Latest trailer for TOTK came out yesterday. Out in a month oooooh
There’s a lot more shown off in Hyrule this time around, and those new Sky Islands look like they’ll also be pretty massive to traverse.
There’s a brief shot of a makeshift Castle Town being set-up, so it looks like society is starting to rebuild itself in this sequel!
Gotta find a map expert’s video on what was added/changed from clips in this trailer… There’s gotta be plenty of details hidden in the background.

Ganondorf sucks ass, I’m more of a Ganon Guy
Also does anyone know if the game will feature actual dungeons again, or only a barren overworld like Shit of the Wild did?

Eh, this trailer clearly shows off theres way more than meets the eye.
Bunch of sky islands that look pretty massive (you can easily skydive down to return to the ground). Underground areas to explore (probably what that Ascend power is fit to escape with), some new encampments and teases that we’ll be helping to rebuild Hyrule.
I’m sold. (Though might wait on a sale) And if it really were all the same Nintendo would have taken this engine and finished it in 2-3 years after the first game. Its been like 6. I doubt much of this entry is gonna be half-baked

So the open world is even more menial minute tasks that are fun for on the go but awful if you play the game for long stretches of time and dont include the thoughtful design of the classic dungeons

Idk, maybe.
I’m a little worried that the inclusion of the Object manipulation system means much of the content will be very open ended “make your own fun” and I don’t know how creative I can be with it, but I’m sure that there’s still plenty of stuff that Nintendo isn’t showing.
I had a loooot of fun however with the freedom of adventure and exploration from the first game so we’ll see
I feel like classic themed dungeons might be back.
We’ll also see more once fans get their hands on it.

Nintendo Direct just came out. Nothing too much of note I feel, personally I think things are going to start winding down in preparation for the next console. Super Mario RPG is getting a remaster, as well as Luigi’s Mansion 2, and the first 2 Pikmin games. The big new announcement is the new 2D Mario game, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which looks like fun. On the Pokemon front it looks like it will be Scarlet and Violet’s DLC pass and a new Detective Pikachu game. Not to mention another Warioware mini-game collection.
Otherwise, few third party games, few third party ports like the Batman Arkham games and that Metal Gear Solid collection. SMB Wonder is definetly the highlight, looks like the breath of fresh air the SMB series could really use.
New Amiibos for Zelda and Ganon from Tears of the Kingdom in the Winter, I guess showing Nintendo still hasn’t quite given up on them yet, but seem content to just do a few a year I guess.
