Hawlucha is the next Pokémon to get a mega evolution

3 new Mega Evos require Nintendo Online subscription, as well as playing a game mode that might not appeal to a lot of players, to acquire the stones.

You’ll be able to Mega Evolve these Pokémon by earning their Mega Stones from online Ranked Battles with Nintendo Switch Online.

The X/Y Raichu Megas are DLC exclusive.

So all 5 of these require an additional purchase in some form.

Mega Dimension kind of feels like they pitched it as Pokemon Freelancer & then watered it down until all the flavour was gone. Like, you drop into slightly remixed areas from the main game with random targets & objectives. But it’s super simple, you’re not really building or losing anything (besides your stash of berries, at a stretch). It doesn’t have that roguelite “hook”.

There’s a subset of players that really loathe it, and their complaints remind me of Freelancer too. A freeform, goal-oriented kind of game suddenly adds a mode that doesn’t give you a lot of agency, and some people just can’t get behind that.

Personally, I thought the overall gameplay in Z-A was a lot of fun & the DLC is more of it, so I’m fairly happy. It does feel a bit thin for the asking price though. Definitely something to look into before buying, make sure you’re on board with what it’s doing. I’d give a stronger recommendation if you can get it 50% off, but I don’t know if that’s likely to ever happen, given the Nintendo of it all.

If you’re the kind of person who’s going to drive themselves mad trying to roll a specific spawn, and see the parts where you actually have to play the game as just a grind getting in the way of filling the dex, then definitely avoid. I don’t want to hear it!!

The 30th anniversary Pokémon presents will be on February 27th

On that same day Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are coming to the switch eshop with Pokémon home support

Yea, but the biggest thing that will be a deal breaker is will any of the Wonder Card events be in the game?

And its not AI generated!!

giphy
I feel kinda bad for the artists needing to do over 1000 mini edits of the 30th logo, but at least someone real got paid and did the work.

I don’t think Pokemon has used any ai art ever so not sure why you called this out they do alot of these big art things like with all the project voltage stuff for Miku

It’s 2025 and companies gonna company.

I know Nintendo is always stuck in the past when it comes to catching up on trends, but I feel like a “Let’s make our artists do 1000 art pieces” would get some executives eager to cut the cost…
Though IDK how AI adoption is doing in Japan so maybe it’s not even in the cards.

Let’s talk FireRed and LeadGreen.

Controversial release, but with a lot to love and hate. For one this is a modified rom and not any of the previous cartridge versions, changes have been made which either add a layer of censorship when naming things or on the positive note provide some of the event items required to capture some Legendary Pokemon.

I guess the biggest thing for me is this release really need its Gen 3 sister games that being R,S,E. Home support is nice, but the reality is stuff is unobtainable like the Old Sea chart required for Mew. Since as of writing this both Celebi and Mew are unobtainable.

$20 Price Tag?

it’s hard to say if it’s worth it or not, I own both games in their original physical form and I can confidently say that if you want the game, without spending an arm and a leg for hardware and a legitimate copy, and without the hassle of legal nuances when it comes to emulation, this release is sorta the best way to go.

do I wish that they bundled them together in a $30 Bundle? Yes. Do I hope this is the last we see of Kanto for a good long while? Yes, with the exception of HG/SS rereleasing one day.

Is this the step in the right direction for the Pokemon Company and Nintendo when it comes to the handling of their legacy catalog when it comes to Pokemon?

probably the controversial take of this post, yes. The argument that NSO should be the home for these titles is ridiculous cause NSO would need home support and I don’t wanna think of the logistical nightmare of figuring out how to make that work since it requires working with Nintendo to make it happen since they’re the ones updating that service

releasing them separately from the service makes it more streamline so at the very least and it keeps it more plug and play. Game Freaking handling the release simply makes it easier for everyone involved.

That being said I don’t agree with the digital only release. The biggest issue with these Legacy titles is accessing them, and the demand for these games are apparent, but what a lot of people want are physical releases, if you aren’t gonna release them individually, release them in a limited edition 30th anniversary double pack at retailers. Package it with some goodies that will fill a landfill one day and call it a day.

either way glad people can enjoy Kanto as it’s intended. But Game Freak and Nintendo really did the bare minimum.
