The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series

For some reason I thought the developers of Cossacs and STALKER are two different studios.
From what I heard in STALKER-related news the studio was almost fully disbanded and re-stablished about 5 years later.
So technically yes the studio was dead, but resurrected as a phoenix-bird

Here are the first in-game screenshots of STALKER 2 from the PC Gamer issue!

This one looks from a cutscene

which looks very similar to some concept arts from the canceled STALKER 2

But it’s due to release in April, how it could be canceled?
Or STALKER 2 and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl are two different games?

Yes. The STALKER 2 that was in development in approximately 2010-12 was cancelled when GSC basically went out of business. The new STALKER 2 (Heart of Chernobyl) is a new game they started developing a few years ago when GSC came back.

Here’s an article with more info about STALKER 2

And here are some screens with how NPCs look in-game

Freedom

Monolith

Some concept art

Warden faction member and a new mutant

Swamp area

Underground lab

Abandoned village

Scientist bunker

Anomaly formation ( symbiont anomaly?)

YongYea talks about the STALKER 2 NFT implementation / removal

As someone quite familiar with crypto, seriously keep that away from gaming. Steam + Paypal works great and there is no need to alter the payment methods for games whatsoever.

Having said that am looking quite forward to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 even if it does release in a buggy state on Steam. They just better implement controller support this time around.

Sadly the game was delayed…

It was dubious how they were hesitant to show gameplay footage even though the game was supposed to come out in 4 months. :pensive:

This shows that even small studios can postpone their games.
This is of course frustrating but I see it only in a good light.
Let this game be the best S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game ever

I did play a bit but I’ll be frank, I usually try to keep most of the things vanilla. Not all changes / addons in these big STALKER mods such as Call of Chernobyl and Anomaly are that great. They add weapons from different weapon packs that do vary in quality, same with the new models for NPCs and mutants, they add them from different games. It’s jarring to see mutants from Metro in a STALKER game

Still if you don’t care for this, go for it, it’s fun. I really like the improved AI and the network system these mods have, makes the world feel alive.

For the grandpa / boomer STALKER players out there that don’t like too many changes, I recommend Gunslinger for CoP, Shadows Addon and AMK for SoC

Another mod that I’m keeping my eyes (and fingers crossed) on is this

New videos got released for a few mods that I’m excited about :radioactive:

A remake of sorts for SoC that aims to modernize the game.

A remake that aims to bring SoC closer to how the devs originally wanted.

Some of the stuff I was able to recognize from the older games

The old man is Doctor from Shadow of Chernobyl

At 1:07 you see the train hangar from SoC and CS

At 2:04 you see the C-Consciousness pods

That’s all I could figure find, still damn hyped for this

A board game based on the series is going to hit crowdfunding.

Stop teasing me, GSC!

I wonder if Stalker: Anomaly/EFP/Gamma would be up my ally since I’m looking for a good single player shooter, since games like Ready or Not and Ground Branch are still in Early Access on Steam and games like Road to Vostok and Transience are still in early development.
