Imagine if Stone and Knight function like outfits that can be equipped. You could play the game, including Freelancer, as alternate agents.
How can they just casually drop this?

My guess is that it’s Stone and 47 instead of Stone and Knight, because it’s easier to adapt the existing disguises to another male model than to make entirely new models for Knight (and it’s pretty likely Knight won’t be playable in the final version).
I assume they have had a working Co-op mode for months now, internally. This isn’t “dropping” anything, just a wayward video monitor.
I would be very surprised if Knight wasn’t in the co-op mode titled “Stone & Knight” :p
In this preview you can see Knight is playable. Also notice the prompt for taking the disguise when she is dragging the body.
To be fair, knowing how the game works I could see that specific prompt being unintended. To my understanding, since the game as it stands always expects you to be 47, NPC outfits only have a binary “can/can’t take disguise” for them. I think it is possible that they hadn’t set the disguises up properly yet when they took this video.
I will say I’ll be pretty disappointed if Knight can’t use disguises at all, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she isn’t allowed to take them from men (following the same logic of 47 (and presumably Stone) not being able to take disguises from women.)
(In the new footage, I’ll also point out that the two players seem to be Stone in his regular clothes & a deputy whose face isn’t visible. Having players change into 47 when taking a disguise would be entirely consistent with the way the game functions right now, since Knight and Stone are regular “outfits” like any other NPC :] )
Can’t wait for a bug that will make it impossible to use disguises in the entire game because of this.
This footage is believed to be from an old proof of concept from the H2-era. The new co-op mode may be different.
It’s probably reasonably representative though. After all, they are using it to promote the new mode.
But yeah the biggest giveaway is the Paris wine van being used as a placeholder in the background of the body dragging segment. That’s a plain white van in the final :p

Hmm… there’s definitely some things off with that clip now that I look at it: the lack of a “?” above the NPCs after being distracted, which is a thing in H3 but wasn’t on H2, and the missing aiming animation for knight. Still, if what you say is true, then it would have been very stupid on their part to post H2 footage to promote a new mode for H3. Why do that to begin with? the game was 5 years old already when that clip was uploaded, it’s not like they’re in need to quicky build up hype or anything like that. Why not just wait until they have a more complete product to show it off.
There is an uncropped version of this footage out there somewhere (its previously been posted in the forum somewhere) where the minimap is clearly from an H2 build as well. Will take a quick look to see if I can find it.

I don’t know if you know, but it just came to my knowledge that Eminem’s last album dated 2024 called The Death of Slim Shady.
And that gave me a clue of why this particular mission exist at all.
I would guess it’s like a promo to this his album.
But a little puzzle to me, why it appeared a year after the album released, not kind of straight away

From what I understand artists make their money from touring moreso than album sales and I would guess this will be to promote his next tour where he’ll likely be performing a lot of the material from his latest album. Em also has a dedication to his lore, so maybe even if he’s putting out a new album next year he still wants to capitalize on the narratives he was playing with in his last album. For example the promotional details of this ET mention Shady turning Hokkaido into Popsomp Hills asylum, which was a location that was used in the viral marketing for his comeback album Relapse in 2009 (there’s also Pompsop Hills Hospital in the trailer for the Death of Slim Shady album, but I think that’s a typo and it’s a hospital and not an asylum. Popsomp is just an area in his lore that has both a rehab asylum and a hospital)
I actually listened to the newest album on youtube since I havent really listened to Eminem since I was 13 and all these references were a little greek to me. Honestly I kinda enjoyed it and finally got what they were going for here with the exaggerated, almost childish vulgarity and tone to it
Basically the album is Eminem doing a satire of his old style via Slim Shady coming back to possess him, with Slim trying to make an album full of “cancellable” tracks to ruin Em’s career. However because Slim has basically been dormant since 2004 - the first time he was killed off by Marshall - all of his references and obsessions are corny and dated. In the start of the album Slim forces Marshall to go back to drinking and that segues into a song entirely about Christopher Reeve which was intended for Encore, one of his worst albums, to show that Slim is a corny, dated and embarrassing relic to him
It’s also a bait and switch of sorts, where Slim represents celebrities who intentionally try to play victim about being cancelled. Near the final third of the album Em and Slim have a rap battle where the lyrics spell this out:
(Em) You rip on paraplegics. Man seriously?
(Slim) Bitch, it’s a joke
(Em) No it’s not, it’s embarrassing
Which then leads to Em killing off the Shady persona at the end. I think this mission what with it referring to Marshall trying to kill Shady before is set before the album, because Diana says “it’s all you, you need to kill Shady yourself without our help” and I think that what is happening in this mission is in Marshall’s dream he dreams up a scenario where 47 kills Shady for him or helps, but the Shady persona survives this and then uses this false sense of security to possess Marshall leading to the Death of Slim Shady album
And I would guess if he is touring with this material maybe he’ll do like a theatrical performance of the album’s narrative, which this mission is here to promote
I can’t add much to what you’ve said, I’m not a fan of his, but certainily I know who he is and know some of his songs, but never dove deep into the texts and meanings.
But this ET made me to know a little bit more about him.
I dug out that he has some kind of everlasting story, and if you’re new to his music you won’t understand the context. That’s something unique and deserves respect.
