Idk, i really enjoyed how they showed a glimpse of her in Contracts and i think they’ve handled her right in Blood Money. She’s like the best Part of Blood Money, she’s quite involved in the story, provides the twist in the end and had more of a plan than 47 himself.
To be quiet honest and it will be my unpopular opinion, the face mystery was never really that interesting. I would have found it more effective if they never showed her at all, her just being a voice. Then she could have been everything.
This is also mainly due to the same ideas that makes a character like Boba Fett interesting and even the Mandalorain (even though we eventually saw his face)
This video is a nice view into “faceless” characters in cinema, it’s quite not the same as a comic. Yet it still dives into why they work.
This thread wouldn’t be fun, without cracking a few eggs. My earlier statement about Timothy Olyphant’s portrayal of 47 was more true to his character then the one from BM, sadly didn’t gain the disgust that I hope for, so I’ll just say it again.
Yeah i know how to treat human beings, regardless of their gender, but he read this magazine in the Movie.
Thats not what i meant and she didn’t wore a bag over her head, the Characters ingame obviously could see her face, but we, the audience couldn’t see her face so she was this shady Figure and it worked very well with the “Betrayal” towards the End.
Yeah but even Dredd has some defining traits moreover he exists mainly as a living allegory for authoritarian law enforcement, his facelessness furthers the metaphor. 47 is just kind of a blank slate and not the one the audience is supposed to fill.
it’s not necessarily about him being a ‘blank slate murder machine’ (are there many recent games where that’s the case?), it’s simply that whatever they do with 47 is far less interesting to me than when he’s a mystery or force of nature. the more human or relatable they make him, the more it butts up against the genuinely psychopathic and over the top kill methods in the gameplay.
i think the best stories and characters in the hitman universe are those around him rather than about him. he’s far better as a guide or a violent full stop at the end of a target’s more interesting story.
dredd hasn’t been a straight up fascism allegory for yonks, but regardless, 47’s traits are perfectly expressed through the gameplay. like i said earlier, we get to take on how he views the world every time we play.
What? That contrast is what gives his character depth and dimension! He’s human, he’s got a sense of humour, it just comes out as a sort of Comedic Sociopathy.
Besides, what they did in WOA was profoundly satisfying. He’s struggled for years with who he is and his place in the world and WOA makes him question the one constant he’s had through the years: that he can trust Diana’s judgement. Here’s this unstoppable killer, at the height of his game, who has to figure out who he is when almost everything he cares about is taken away. Who can’t identify with that?
Explanation: He looks more real, he looks more like his age, he has more flaws which makes him look more human, his hair is nice, he doesn’t look like a big grumpy bald baby.
