Unpopular opinions about Hitman

My only attempt is to show that wishing for the inclusion of an Asylum in a Hitman level is not unreasonable.

I’ve made an attempt at showing how a level with the Asylum could be interesting. Granted, it got shot down, but the effort, however slight in comparison to what the good people at IO would need to put in to actually make this a reality, was made. And despite it being shot down it still sounds like a level I personally would enjoy playing.

Asylum set in a bigger area than we’ve seen it before, so that we can also explore its surroundings. The surroundigns can be anything. A village. A city. A forest. A lake. All of that. Populate that surrounding area with a target and some guards. You can go wild. It’s basically like starting a mission from scratch, only you have the Asylum standing next to it.

Then the Asylum itself. For nostalgia sake, I think the outside structure and the front lawn and gate should be as loyal to the original as possible. Sprinkle the inside with a nod left and right, be it a dillapidated patient robe, a teddy bear or a burnt-out taser.

If you want to populate it, you can go two ways about it. Give the Asylum a current function, either stil las an asylum, or reurpose it to something else, like a spa or something. Or keep it in its run-down state and have some squatters in it, with some criminal connections.

The underground facility: if it’s really that much of a big deal, limit it to a simple nod of there having once been an underground facility. Have two corridors under the elevator still intact, with all the rest of the underground area collapsed or otherwise inaccessible. That way it just becomes a small basement, but with a big nod.

Or you can have it sprawling, modernized, functional. Cloning tanks providing unique kill opportunities, genetic experiments, underground Ether work, that can be tampered with. Aesthetics loyal to the original Ort-Meyer vision but with more modern twists and making the place feel more real, with a cafeteria and stuff, the place your friendly neighbour could be working at. Add two or three additional entrances besides the lift, maybe in the back garden or something, or in the nearby forest, whatever.

Or you can have the tunnels not be modernized, instead abandoned. A post-mission mission. Your target crawled away in hiding in there, maybe only two or three guards with him to protect him, maybe even none. His only protection just the mazelike hallways, maybe a forgotten minigun, and you need to find him in those echoing, abandoned hallways full of memories. He might try to taunt you through the miraculously robust intercom system. A bit like that “mission” where you kill Lenny, only different setting, and well, a minigun.

These are just some drops of water in an ocean of possibilities.

edit: That video is great by the way, very funny :-D, but I don’t identify with any of the people present in the sketch. I’m not demanding the impossible. I’m modestly wishing for something possible, and thinking about the forms and shapes it could have taken if other missions were made for Hitman III.

Let’s hope that Hitman 3 sees a couple new locations (like H2) and even if the do a flashback sort of scenario where you partake in some missions involving part of Mr. Gray or 47’s past, (QUITE POSSIBLE, THE REASONS BEHIND THE BURNWOOD MURDERS,) I am all for extra content, was thoroughly surprised by Island of Sgail and Haven island, and pleasntly so, those were and still are great missions, and Sgail is quite difficult, since there are so many guards and areas.

The Isle of Sgàil wasn’t part of the extra content though. New York was.

I like all of them, exploring the Asylum while the SWAT seeks for you in The Setup is nice, Meet your Brother is my favorite “Final Shootout” in the Series and Asylum Aftermath is one of the better original Missions in Contracts.

But i also dont see much value in returning again to the Asylum, if its not in a Remake/Remaster of C47 or a Reboot.

Why did you have to use that word?

Because I know how to ruin a beloved Franchise :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

47 is too skilled
He can play drums, cook mama’s spaghetti to perfection, shave beards perfectly (he doesn’t exactly look like he grows facial hair himself enough to practice), can apply photo-quality tattoos, can perform stellar massages, and can nail a catwalk run with apparent professionals.

What exactly were they teaching at the asylum?

I don’t think of this statement as an “opinion”, it’s more like a fact, but

That’s a good question.

I don’t think that he learned all these skills in the asylum. I think he learned much of it autodidactic, like when he has the time he learns to play instruments, cooks, paints etc.

nah, he learnt it all at the institute of human betterment. clue’s in the title, innit?

Well now I’m imagining a sterile institute cafeteria with the tables shoved aside so the clones can practice tangoing with each other in creepy unison with expressionless faces

I do think the asylum tutorial of Contracts is the most fun tutorial level of the series. But I also think the final action packed level of Contracts is the most fun final action packed level in the series.

Contracts really had some great book ends to it. Still never want the asylum again.

It’s better than the actual tutorial level that they have in the game :stuck_out_tongue:

On another thread I mentioned a bad opinion of mine, so I’m going to reply here to prevent de-railing that thread. @DrMekar wanted an explanation so here we go.

The Author is my favourite Sapienza mission. I’m well aware I’m in the minority here, I honestly might be the ONLY person who feels this way. But here it goes.

The Author has an amazing atmosphere and makes really good use out of its focused area. World Of Tomorrow is a little too big, The Icon only really has one area of focus and it’s not as well designed as I’d like and Landslide has a much bigger area and uses each area well enough but it has a lot of downtime that slows down the pace. Those 2 bonus missions as well are also very focused on mission stories to complete, they’re the kind of levels like Showstopper where it’s hard to isolate a target without them. The Author has the best use out of the apartment building area across all 4 missions and I personally believe it is the best use of the church but the church is always used well so it’s not as big a deal.

The Author has targets on relatively short, simple loops which is something I prefer (unless it’s Ken Morgan’s bad example), and they are very easily manipulated by shooting the church bell. It is probably my favourite use of manipulating both targets in the trilogy. Both targets are also disguises which is unique for this trilogy.

I love the atmosphere of this level. The eerie feeling, the bats, the surprisingly good music and little things like your safehouse apartment actually being occupied and now a trespassing area. It’s not exactly Contracts or even something like the middle missions of HITMAN III but it does a lot to make the tone not just feel super happy and spy thrillery. It’s a quiet Sapienza which we don’t really see, especially when 1/2 of the missions here have people speaking into loud speakers.

The Author is my favourite Patient Zero mission (not hard) but it’s also my second favourite overall recycled map. It is criminally underrated. Really the only fault with it is picking up the virus off that one target, it is the same situation as picking up the file in A House Built On Sand. Really all it does is limit your killing opportunities or you can kill from a distance and then you awkwardly run back to their body to pick it up. But that’s it.

I come back to The Author quite a bit, I find it really fun and bite sized (in a good way). Sometimes you want a long trip through a giant map like Mumbai but I’m more often in the mood for a small map that is very focused.

woah there, pickle. patient zero is great all the way through.

Thanks for the Explanation and I do have to agree that the Atmosphere is pretty good. What helds this Map back for me alot is the usage of very few Custom Models. Except for the Targets, the only unique NPC is Black’s Manager, all Others are generic Civillians. I don’t get why they didn’t put any Cult Bodyguards or Militia there, it was refreshing in Bangkok.

Agreed! It not having Contracts mode is a crime, but both targets that are there are very well done.

It’s the first mission I finished Fibre Wire Only / No Ko’s / Silent Assassin / Suit Only and still the most rewarding because of how natural it feels to pull it off.

Back in 2017 my only real complaint was how lazy it was to re-use the pen kill from Landslide.

Now I’m just used to it. Sean Bean died from it twice.

Naaaaaaaaah. I wouldn’t say it’s my favorite but I absolutely adore this mission. I agree with so much of your post I would be quoting it all. I love the music, the bats, the sleepy feeling with fewer NPCs. I play this and the source quite frequently.
