they mean sex. khakiasp is a well known horn-dog. down, boy!
Among other things yes, but human connection and just talking to people face to face is something i value intensely and is something ill never be able to get from a game or an online chatroom
ah, man, here i was being flippant and louche, then you come along and say something genuinely sweet and meaningful.
I despise interacting with people in real life. Always have. My wife being a crucial exception and sheās just like me. Stuff like this, this is the most social interaction I get, and it works just fine. When the country went on lockdown due to Covid, everybody staying home and keeping away from each other when they did go out, some of the best 6 months of my life, I didnāt have to deal with anybody.
What are you loling for? Youāve never met anyone who thinks existence inherently sucks?
Thatās surprising, I hardly ever hear of anyone holding those same views in a gaming community. As it is, I donāt hold those views consistently. It depends on whatās going on in my life and the last few months have been the most depressing Iāve had since high school with the death of my dog in September. Although, I really never have liked interacting with people in person, that part is consistent. Iāll otherwise probably be thinking completely differently by June if the pattern holds, but right now Iām completely done with real life shit, and have been mostly bored with it the last few years anyway, my games being the only joy Iāve had.
No, Iāve never been on here before signing up two months ago, although I did lurk when I found this place after the release of H3. I donāt remember seeing that name, so I guess they were either the old forum, or didnāt last long here?
are you a thomas liggoti fan, per chance?
Never heard of him. Just googled him, looks interesting, so I may give him a shot. Iām a Stephen King and H. P. Lovecraft fan, though.
if you like lovecraft youāll probably get on with some of ligottiās fiction. i think he even has some lovecraft-adjacent work set in the universe? not sure.
you may also like his bleak-to-the-point-of-parody series of essays on philosophical pessimism: the conspiracy against the human race.
one of the characters from series 1 of true detective - cole, i think? - quotes parts of it almost word for word, so if you saw that and were drawn to his worldview, you might really dig it.
Being called a Grinch or a Scrooge around Christmas: why is that a bad thing? Both of those dudes have their own book and multiple movies, why should being labeled one of them be seen as a negative?
At the end of those movies and books their heart grows and they become kind, caring social people
Well, thatās another reason why it makes no sense to considering being one of them a bad thing.
Two unpopular opinions that run counter to one another on the same subject.
-
Forrest Gump is overrated.
-
Itās not nearly as overrated as other people who think itās overrated claim it to be. It is only slightly overrated.
Since its only #12 on imdb top 100, i would argue its underrated. Theres even two of the lords of the ring infront if it. Which is obviously nonsenses.
Everyone take it easy; I did say only slightly.
itās fine. not my bag though. itās too mawkish for my tastes. i know we can boil down all films/art to a series of manipulations of one kind or another, but i found i could see the strings on gump a bit too prominently.
my pet peeve - as some may or may not already know because i bang on about it to an embarrassing degree - is the term āoverratedā.
it isnāt a legitimate critique of a text, itās a lazy, meaningless dig at what other people like that inherently places oneās - entirely subjective - opinion about art (or whatever) over anotherās. no one can help what they like or what they get out of things.
Iām sure this has been mentioned in some form already, but I canāt remember off the top of my head; Iāve been thinking about the Star Wars prequel trilogy a lot lately and itās good(?). I donāt want to say better than the original trilogy because that will definitely set people off but it doesnāt deserve the flak it gets. Sure, the dialogue can be a bit hokey but the plotting is surprisingly nuanced beyond that, with plenty of foreshadowing, callbacks and a little fan service here and there. Additionally, Revenge of the Sith remains one of my favorite Star Wars films, Palpatine is one of the best villains in film and (despite people not liking this especially) the political machinations and examination of declining democracies is superb.
Before you rush to the reply button, politics is the foundation of the saga and itās what is really lacking from the sequel trilogy. I actually like those films too (at least more than most) but Iāve always felt that, besides Last Jedi being more of a Rian Johnson movie than a Star Wars/franchise movie and Rise of Skywalker being the 2nd movie J.J. Abrams would have made AND the 3rd movie simultaneously, these three were⦠just missing something more than anything; Iāve recently come to realize that it was the politics. It might be more subtle in the originals and a bit heavy handed in the prequels but, aside from some fascist imagery in Force Awakens, itās basically not present at all in the sequels. And they suffer for it.
On top of all that, with every passing day, the politics of the prequels get more and poignant and prophetic. Itās almost certainly been going on for far longer (itās amazing realizing not only how much you donāt learn in school but how much they actively donāt teach you) but itās felt like Iāve been living some of this shit since a certain con man descended from on high to save us from his imaginary problems.
I digress though and will end by saying that, no, they arenāt perfect (what is?) but they do get a bad rap. Luckily, as time goes on, this seems to be more of a popular unpopular opinion for various reasons (especially now that people have the sequels to direct their ire towards). People are only happy when theyāre unhappy, arenāt they? Anyway, here are a couple quotes that are particularly poignant nowadays:
[Qui-Gon Jinn] āThe ability to speak does not make one intelligent.ā
[Yoda] āFear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.ā
[PadmĆ©] āSo this is how democracy dies. With thunderous applause.ā (special mention that I canāt believe I forgot)
And thatās my piece. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
With you, I am. Much like the Force.
The Matrix Revolutions is the best film of the old trilogy, and there is a single reason why: Smith.
