Finally got round to setting up emulation on my steam deck so started playing the Pokémon Sword & Shield GBA demake. Little laggy in parts like the wild area and a few kind of “unpolished” bits so far, but it’s an ambitious hack of course, and it’s nice to explore Galar in 2D.
Soooooooo it’s 100% authentic to Galar? ![]()
Yeah it’s a very faithful recreation ![]()
I started playing The Alters. I wanted to play it since release but (1) it did not launch on Linux at that point and (2) I found out it contained AI stuff, I think subtitle translations. So I refunded it.
Both got fixed idk when. And since it goes on sale so often Steam pestered me to finally buy it again as it was sitting in my wishlist since my refund.
It is quite nice! The interaction with my Alters seems deep actually and certainly influence my decisions. I did game over at the end of Act 2 today because I tried to get through with as few Alters as possible. But I guess this is not a recommended thing to do for the first playthrough. ![]()
I will try to find out which is the latest save where I can turn thing around again.
The micromanagement is quite annoying though. Will write a proper review when I played through it.
Mario Bros Wonder and its really good. Probably the best “2D” Mario since World
Mario Maker slander ![]()
I kinda hate those games where you have to make “your own fun” and games that have no real goal, for example minecraft.
Agree. Single exception being the OG Sim Cities. I guess the goal was to make a giant city but really you just made whatever city you wanted and then dealt with issues.
Best city builder is Zeus - Master of Olympus by impression games & sierra ![]()
There is actually a gem city builder in the making, Metropolis 1998, which leans a lot on Sim City 2000 but you can go absolutely bonkers with anything. Shape and design your own parks, setup how the stores and homes look at the inside, etc.
Either way, just finished MOLE, a spooky, short game where you are in a vessel that is drilling kilometers into the ground to find a mysterious signal. It has some dark themes and scenes besides that so it is not for everyone, but I think it was very well made!
@TheChicken was kind enough to gift me Returnal. It’s been a bit of a ride. Frankly, I would of given up on it if I was playing solo. But Chicken is carrying me in co-op, explaining the mechanics etc. It is very well made, gorgeous, but it is very punishing. Tries to give the player as little advantage as possible. But it can be exciting when you get a good run and get some good hear out of it.
Think it’s the kind of game where when you die, you’ll either be eager to jump back in, or feel tremendously annoyed, and want to do something else.
Been playing a bit of big walk. Seems like a fun game so far, just a shame I have no-one to play it with.
How have you been doing the puzzles solo?
Have only been able to do 3 so far.
The one with the crane and the one with the two switches were easy enough (use one lamp-ball for the crane, and just run for the switch puzzle).
The combination puzzle has a way to get on the roof, allowing you to just see the combination in the room that is normally inaccessable after being locked.
Started playing Hades II and so far it is just as good as the first. I know it is stupid to try and quantify progress like it is a linear story so I will just say in a spoiler free way that the last thing I did before giving the console a rest was fight a certain visually impaired goatherd on the surface. As for below ground I made it all the way to the reunion at the Fields of Mourning before I was done in by not knowing his attack patterns.
Also fuck the small floating(?) fish in Oceanus.
You might not get very far. The game is designed to not be played solo.
There’s got to be some forums or usenet groups out there to find companions.
Aw heck, sorry dude! I’ll try and be free next time you’d want to get into the game, it does interest me.
It’s free on PS Plus, for all you playstation people! Up to 12 players in one session, we could do a big HMF group!
Re-installed AC Shadows to check out new content they added. I guess it’s a common enough trope, but I immediately was reminded of Hitman 3 when a near-death character walked through a set of visions.
Been replaying 007: First Light on Purist here the last month a bit on and off. Currently I’m on a role and planning to see it through to the end sometimes next week. Before I embark on another RE9 playthrough.
The characters, the story is still strong. The plot around AI and putting blind fate into it, is right on the money. Especially on how we rely on this technology, that is like the game full of errors.
The combat system still shines on the hardest difficulty, you can take it slow and be more thoughtful about how you engage combat encounters. Personally I found that the more aggressive I play the better my chances are, plus it doesn’t hurt the cinematic nature of the game to let lose.
The biggest hurdle when playing on Purist, is that the gadget system becomes rather limiting. Gadgets uses a lot more resources as well as you needing a lot more to fill up the electronic and chemical meters.
It does hamper the gameplay a bit, often you are being a scavenger both under and after combat to load up for the next encounter. It does limit your playstyle if you reply on gadgets. Luckily for me, I prefer to play the game like Daniel Craig, cracking skulls and filling enemies with lead.
Playing Fallout 4, permadeath survival. My latest attempt ended when, just chilling and minding my own business trying to get Oberland Station up and running, a cluster of 5-6 ghouls attacks my small settlement guarded only by my one measly turret that they destroy immediately. My poor level 4 character tried to run, then tried to fight, but got bitten in the neck and eaten by ghouls. Sigh, I had high hopes for this one. That’s my bad for not focusing enough on defensive measures / building a safety bunker. Oh well, I will live again when the time is right. For now, deleted the file RIP.
