I got every single fucking gap in THPS 1+2, my god I think that is the first time I have ever done that for a Tony Hawk and I have played every single Neversoft branded title.
Also replaying Forbidden West again because I have got to have something to play until the next game that excites me comes out or I find an old game at a good price.
There’s a boss battle in Luigi’s Mansion 3 that involves an homage to old Godzilla films, with Luigi facing off against a ghost in a kaiju costume, around a mini-city set.
It’s something I came across in my latest play-session of the game…
Not to mention the overall quest of finding the elevator button of the floor, it was pretty unique.
There’s this director ghost you come across who has lost his directing flame – his red megaphone – so you must retrieve it to get the button in his possession. To get it, you need to solve puzzles through different studio movie sets: a horror set (with “The Ring” reference), medieval action, firefighter drama, and giant-object “Micro set”.
Once you solve the puzzles and find the red megaphone, you’re cast in Marty’s new movie – a Godzilla-inspired monster fight. Once that’s done, he flees to his editing room and you can capture him easily.
The best part is that he’s the only ghost so far that’s completely non-hostile. Wonder why the devs decided to break up the pace like that. I guess it’s the halfway point in the game, got half the floors unlocked.
Got it and got there! Fucking managed to nab that one Get There in THPS 1+2 that has eluded me for about a year now. It took nearly two whole hours but I did it.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land is fun, more engaging and puzzling than Star Allies, and is absolutely, positively adorable as always.
The bonus objectives in each level are moderately difficult to find on your own, often needing a replay or two, to reveal unchecked boxes. It’s cool, and better than Star Allies, that gave you the solution to every puzzle or secret as soon as you encountered them.
Early Spoilers
I love how they gave this thing an anime-style vocal opening. Actual vocals and lyrics in a Kirby game! Also ducks. So cute.
If I have one gripe, it’s that there are a lot of invisible ceilings, as HAL Labs have opted to restrict your verticality to make you “solve” platforming puzzles: usually by jumping off a specific platform to get enough height to reach a different area. (In a normal kirby game, you’d be able to float up to it easily.)
I find it annoying and a bit patronizing, given that this is a new restriction for the series (in a game that already un-restricts Kirby from a 2D plane.)
Right now, when I’m not playing H3, I’m working on Assassins’ Creed IV: Black Flag for the first time. Been on it for a few months since it’s so big and and I’ve been switching back and forth with H3. It’s definitely earned it’s title as one of the best in that series and probably the best pirate game ever made, because it’s fun as hell.
I’ve just finished playing Read Dead Redemption 2. I had a lot of fun, I liked it a lot. I don’t think I’ll be doing much touching the online mode, though. Both times I played it, I was almost immediately killed by other players for no reason. Like, they went out of their way to kill me. I dunno
What I’m not so pleased with is that one of the missions you need to unlock him, you have to murder a whole facility of guard dogs the enemy has stored. I know, they aren’t real, but the implications are freaky.
Also takes a while to get to that point. Eh, not everything in life is easy.
Oh, and the main game itself is okay. I like that you have a lot of combat skills at the start. But the map is… big. There are lots of collectibles. There are lackluster crafting mechanics. The story is ehhhh.
Its what youd expect from typical Ubisoft, but I’m not really in the mood for a collectathon across a massive, (too massive) map.
Bit of fun for free, but I’m not buying into this. Or letting it take up 95gigs on my PS4. It’s a bit much (size and performance-wise for the console)
Stranger Things Crossover.
This is probably the coolest (and first) major crossover for Stranger Things of this caliber. I really enjoyed it.
It had all the environments youd expect (russian cold war bunkers, upside-down/shadow realm variants, demogorgon lair.) And lots of references and (if canon) light world-building to the show? Who knows if that Mind Flayer is the one from the show, or one of many, just out in Yara…
I like how the demogorgon was treated as a near-invincible enemy, that you have to run away from rather than fight. (If they had included a boss battle near the end, I don"t think my nerves could take it.)
It was wild, short enough, and very good for a free addition. Loved (and hated) its survival-horror aspects. Had me on edge the entire time.
Ah, yeah, I remember that! Didn’t play much of DBD, but I do own the pack.
Too bad the license expired and the main map was removed. At least I can keep the characters.
Ubisoft made some cutscenes for FC6, including more references to things in the series, russian cold-war experiments, actual Upside-Down area, Chorizo impregnated in the cave, close-up Mind Flayer so I’d say it has it beat in terms of what’s in it.
(Though DBD had the longevity)
Oh man that game is fun as hell. I finally played it for the first time 3 or so years back and blitzed through it in slightly over a week. First time in a long time that a game got me hooked like that, Hitman excluded (did not enjoy Freedom Cry though). Still haven´t gotten around to do another playthrough though…
Shame the game was tied to the Assassins Creed IP. The naval portion of the game and exploration are the only redeeming parts of the game. Everything else is just bad. Combat is less polished than it was in AC3, present time portion of the game was just horrendous, 90% of missions are tailing missions and there’s even a tailing mission involving the ship.
Clearly not an AC fan. Everything you mentioned contribute to the enjoyability of the game. I would argue also that the combat is better than in AC3, which was where combat dropped from the previous entry.
