First, as the topic says, wanted to say hello. Second, what would some think of my remake of absolution? I know many did not care for it, but think about it, if a remake WAS done, put more disguises in the levels, etc. thoughts anyone?
Hello and welcome.
I wouldn’t want a remake. I prefer it just being what it is, and moving on.
If you had to compare Absolution to one Iron Maiden album, which one would you chose and why?
Thank you for the message. Really can’t compare between gaming and music, two different realms.
What do you mean your remake? Is this something your working on?
I do not care for Absolution whatsoever personally - linearity and gameplay aside, the 14-year-old-edgelord vibe to the story and OTT caricatures of characters make it irredeemable to me.
But I’d certainly be interested to at least see, if not play, a fan remake!
I’ve thought that the story of Absolution would need some parts ironed out, either better explained, or just redone if a “remake” was ever made.
I consider it a one-off, standalone story that centers around a situation that 47 finds himself in. Those who say “It’s not a Hitman™ game” are in denial. Yes. It strays away mostly from the open world levels of all the previous games with the majority of linear sections… That’s why they have the checkpoints BECAUSE of the linearity.
One point that always comes to mind is the magic amulet Victoria had… or didn’t. At points without the necklace she’s bedridden, but in the ending she’s tossing it away. Her having been drugged or sedated when she was “helpless” could be the only explanation of her being able to function without it in the ending. But as far as abilities go she should be able to retain that. So I can only figure the amulet gives her strength(?) It’s really awkward to rationalize how something like that actually works.
Just to put this out there in case this is going to go where I think it might…
This forum considers anything AI generated to be potentially legally problematic (I guess), and posting such material is greatly discouraged.
Remake? Hell no. But a definitive version, with all the cut content, like a directors cut would be cool.
I always say that Absolution was a decent game, but not a good Hitman game.
The story of a trained killer having to use his skills to track down and save an innocent, taking down villains (often stereotypical ones akin to Dead Rising psychos) from Chicago to South Dakota is a decent enough story for a B list game. It’s a very narrative driven game with a lot of dialogue and cool visuals. I particularly enjoyed playing a character’s physical journey from start to finish, seeing every place they go along the way and the battles they have to face like the Last of Us’ cross-country trek, opposed to games where each level you are teleported to a new location. It felt like this was a character who had to use their own wits and no support to figure out where to go next and grab whatever means of transport to get there that he could. Everything was very makeshift, haphazard and pragmatic.
But completely in opposition of the immaculately dressed globetrotting silent assassin and shadow of the ruling elite that Agent 47 is. A Hitman game sees the bigger picture, where Absolution was very zoomed in and focused on the minutiae of interpersonal relations, the heavy lore and history behind the locations, often with mission stories carrying over multiple levels. That’s good, but not for Hitman.
TL;DR: Absolution would be a decent game if you swapped out the protagonist for an original action hero that wasn’t 47.
I don’t see any sense in the remake of Absolution.
It’s built on the latest engine with graphics/mechanics/physics/controls/etc of WoA.
I would like to see all previous games to be put on the modern engine with all the perks of it.
Changing something in Absolution means creating the new game.
Absolution is great as it is, maybe except of its lineraness, but maybe it’s its main perk
As much as I enjoy Absolution I also agree that a remake isn’t something I want to see,
but I’d love fan projects that do similar things ![]()
One thing I think could be cool is to make something out of the scrapped storylines of early Absolution, there is something about it that would create some really cool and cinematic moments
Though you could also agree it’d fit better outside of the Hitman franchise and with a completely different character ![]()
If someone modded in a different character and re-recorded 47’s dialogue, it might actually be a decent compromise ![]()
Just fix the broken checkpoint and disguise system and rerelease it. That’s all it really needs. Absolution is difficult for all the wrong reasons.
I’m gonna have to pass. I know a remake would improve the gameplay but too much of it was tied to the story, which I’m also not a fan of. I rather leave it behind.
Using the new tech they could remove a lot of the checkpoints if not all and have the maps in their full form rather than segmented form, that’s something I’d appreciate to see
If the Maps would be redone in a style like WoA sure, but the same would be true for any of the previous games and if I had to choose I would take a WoA-styled Remake of any of the to previous games maps over Absolution.
And if we’re talking about a remake sticking as close as possible to the original game, then absolutely not.
