A pet-peeve of mine when it comes to English pronunciation is colonel. There’s not even an r in there!!

Actually the English word does have an “r” in it but the usage of coronel fell out of use in the 17th century and has been replaced by the Spanish pronunciation while using the French/Italian spelling.

I pronounced it lieu - tenant but I also heard of left - tenant which I don’t understand, old English I guess? Don’t get me started on the pronunciation of nuclear

Also “Leftennent” pronunciation of Lieutenant.
There is no two ways to pronounce “nuclear”. New-clear is the proper pronunciation and new-cue-lar is a malapropism.
Also no-one understands how the word lieutenant evolved into leftenant, the etymology is still unknown and no real solid theories.

Yeah yeah I saw that coming from a mile away, several miles away in fact, you picked the most obvious reference but I understand if it is your first day.
that’s the english/european pronunciation. loo is pretty much strictly us, i think?

The Americans don’t do that. Although we should bc it’s proper. Instead we say
“Lu tenant”

For some reason I say it this way. It’s on my top two words I can’t pronounce without thinking about it list.
Nuclear and stock. I say nuclear the way W Bush says it and I pronounce stock the same way normal people pronounce stalk like Jack and the beanstalk.
