I’m convinced 47 wishes Smith was a target, especially around Blood Money, just so he’d have an excuse to finally…
As much as we all love 47, he’s too fragile. Is he great at hitting his target? Of course! Two bullets and he’s dead though.
and thats what we call a glass cannon
That’s just gameplay, though. In gameplay, he fits the trope of Glass Cannon, as @Khakiasp said. But it’s also a case of Gameplay and Story Segregation. 47 survived a bullet to the chest in Contracts, and his enhancements are what allowed him to survive long enough to get treatment and recover as quick as he did afterward. He’s also survived an explosion at point blank range (Parchezzi) and standing in an electrified puddle (Skurky), both events that would have (and have) killed anyone he tried to use them against. His low survivability in a shootout wouldn’t be a factor in a cutscene, and in gameplay is meant to tell the player to not get seen and play like an actual assassin. And 47 being caught in those circumstances mentioned above, as well as being overpowered by Sanchez and poisoned by Diana twice, are examples of the trope Cutscene Incompetence, something that wouldn’t exist during gameplay.
Tl;dr? Don’t let the easy bullet death fool you. Besides, the question isn’t who is the toughest assassin, but who is the best; as in, who does the job better.
It’s an “open to interpretation” thing too. If “best assassin” only means “who kills the targets best” and has no other criteria, then I’d probably agree that 47 is pretty high up on that list, if not the highest.
If, on the other hand, “best” includes other criteria including what happens after he’s spotted, then 47 cannot be at the top. Cutscenes not withstanding, 47 isn’t a durable guy. As you mentioned too, game cutscenes tend to include things that are not supported by the play of the games. I’ve seen cut scenes where my top-level guy with the entire arsenal available to him was taken out by a simple blow to the head. If I had been in control there’s no way that would/could have happened but the plot demanded it.
Similarly, if the plot demands that our protagonist survive a shot to the head, that’s what we will get. Plot armor is a powerful tool and I’m not sure that we can really use anything that happens out of the player’s control as evidence for or against durability.
All that said though, I agree that 47, as a silent assassin, is probably among the best at least as long as he isn’t involved in a firefight.
Well, I’d argue he’s also the best because he doesn’t get seen (canonically), making it a non-factor of whether he can survive a shootout. John Wick, for example, is superb as a combatant, but as an assassin, he’s sloppy as hell. Don’t get me wrong, I love JW, but he can’t eliminate a simple target without taking out 25 bodyguards with them. Even that chick from the second movie who slit her own wrists, doing the job for him, he had to fire a non-suppressed shot to her head to make sure, instead of just dunking her under the water like 47 would do.
If I think about it, I don’t know if I know how good of an assassin John Wick actually was/is without a lot of collateral damage. I have a generally vague memory of the movies but that’s about all of the context I have. Do we ever see John Wick actually perform an assassination outside of the assault/vengeance style he does in the movies? Those are blood baths, to be sure, but I don’t know if that’s his normal assassination style or just the situation he finds himself in. I admit my memory of those movies is poor, at best, though.
If IO would re-release the remastered trilogy (SA, C, BM) for next gen consoles, would you buy it? Say it would be 60 bucks.

If it would be remastered with the WoA Trilogy style - of course.
If it just would be adjusted like GTA Trilogy Remaster - no
for the original trilogy i would love a remake in the style of the n.sane remakes for crash. Keeping the gameplay faithful, but updating it to be consistent and slightly more modern (better ai systems, better disguise system) for all 3 games.
Nothing will change, just the same remaster from years back.
But one can dream. I like to. And I would like to play let’s say C47 like I play HITMAN 3
I would like to have C47 in Glacier2 with the new controls. That would be a dream.
If they would do this, I’d love if they would include the original in a Special edition.
I need Codename 47 on consoles in my life.
When are we going to tell him guys?
You never told me you were immortal…
I don’t have a console so it wouldn’t matter what they release for next gen, old gen, or any other gen… unless they somehow release an 8-bit version, I’m out as far as a console goes.
What would you call a lady Alderman…
