Yes or No...? 2

Any type. If I like a song I’ll listen to it. Genre doesn’t really matter to me.

I prefer Pepsi but will settle for Coke. Cherry Coke would be better. Also, Vanilla Mt Dew needs to be a thing.

As for Music… I’m more into the Electronic sector of the genre. Anything from Chiptunes to Psytrance.

maybe i’m being pedantic (moi?), but i don’t think there is a ‘best’ genre (it implies competition, which i personally don’t like being associated with art). i think there’s good examples of everything… though i can’t say i’ve found any good polka yet :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

if we’re talking ‘classical’:

I feel like I should clarify I was pointing out their own markets for soda companies. You bring a good point about restaurants serving specific soda brands. I’m a little rusty on what I know about branding but I’m pretty sure Coca-Cola isn’t owned by McDonald’s nor is PepsiCo owned by Taco Bell, they only supply it to them.

The restaurants don’t own the soda companies; the soda companies own the restaurants. And what I mean by “own” is that both the soda and restaurants are under the same parent organization, with the restaurants being sort of subservient to the sodas in the hierarchy under the main company’s umbrella, because the sodas can be sold in more places than just in those restaurants, but those restaurants depend on those sodas. Coke owns the larger share in McDonalds, and both are in turn owned by another corporation another level up.

I’m not sure “subservient” is the right word here. The restaurants depend on the sodas to sell them, sure; but isn’t that like with every smaller business like bars or supermarkets that supply their products? The cola companies produce cola, so that businesses may purchase their products and resell them under their own chain and storefronts.

Are you suggesting McDonald’s would cease if Coca-Cola stopped supplying them with their coke?

No, just that Coca Cola has a controlling interest in McDonald’s. Makes it easier for the soda companies to profit from the sales of the fast food business if they buy up the businesses. That’s why the big chains all went from mom ‘n’ pop places decades ago to corporate entities. The soda companies wanted them.

I feel I should clarify at this point that I have not done actual research on this, this is hearsay from someone who told me that that’s how it is with the soda brands, but it’s someone who knows how these things work so I trust their word, and have just never cared enough about who owns what in fast food to look into it, so I admit I could be wrong, if my source was actually BSing me this time.

I’m taking this discussion to the music thread.

You’re at least partially correct. Here are the major shareholders of Coca Cola:

And these are the major shareholders of McDonald’s:

There are quite a few common names between them but these are mutual funds and large investment companies. More likely the real reason that McDonald’s sells only Coke is that Coke makes it very attractive to McDonald’s to sell their products. There are mutual exclusivity contracts that go back decades that would be very hard to break at this point.

Could McDonald’s switch to Pepsi? Sure. Would it make financial sense for them to do so? Not even remotely.

Mana of the gods!

My favorite soda of all time, over Coke, Pepsi and even 7up.

I just wish PR had Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper and all those other interesting flavors. Just to try them once, at least.

Sucks that I missed the online-only blue raspberry flavor that came last year (I think).
