007 "First Light" News Thread

Looks like a fairly generic game for the genre to me so far, with nothing overly unique highlighted in the trailer.

Hasn’t hyped me up that much. Time will tell though, since it’s only the reveal trailer.

Fair enough. I suppose I’m easily interested when I haven’t been playing any new games recently and the rare times I can get off from work, I am struggling to find what game to play in my shrinking library.

My expectations were raised when I saw the trailer that was released today.
As expected, 007 looks to be a HITMAN-like TPS with a decent amount of stealth action elements.
James Bond, unlike 47, looks to have quite a bit more action with melee combat.
Since this is only a video, it would be nice if we could get a demo version of the game before its release so that we could get a chance to play the game beforehand.

And, as a small detail, I personally hope that 007 will have a “button change function for pad operation,” which was not implemented in HITMAN WoA, and a “volume control function for movie scenes,” since 007 seems to have a lot of movie scenes.

Game seems really good so far, Hitman similarities are evident but it also seems distinct enough. Bond looks a little weird, kinda generic as some people have also said, the scar is a nice touch though.

My only big concern is this:

I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. I don’t want this game to suffer the same fate as Hitman and will get overloaded with countless of pointless reskins. Hopefully IO manages to avoid that trap.

After IO’s recent decisions I started to have doubts about this game, but after seeing the trailer a lot of them have been cleared. The Bond IP is in good hands. I’m pretty sure it will do fine, the only way I can see this flopping is if the game is really ass, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The trailer looks pretty nifty, and it seems First Light should fill the 47-shaped hole missing in all of our lives until Hitman 9 is released in…ooh, 2030? Has it been confirmed that the levels will be sandboxes like Hitman, or more linear? And was that a driving section I saw?

The Bond character looks more like Ethan Hunt than James Bond. I’m not sure why., but to me he just does.

And they mentioned Iceland in the trailer, so you just know they’re going to have a proper snow map which WoA never got. Why do you do this to us, IOI!?

But First Light and GTA 6 in the same year? Yum!

I am not entirely sold on this one yet, because the trailer looks to much action for my taste, but this bit from the website sounds promising:

Give me as much freedom as possible to play this as I want to play it, and I am on board.

The combat options seem to be way more diverse than what WoA offered. I like that.

Cool to see a James Bond fan’s reaction. They appreciate details I didn’t know about as a casual. Will be interesting to see more of these channels reactions.

I’m going to say that the look 007 has… It reminds me of The Yardbirds Sniper Mission briefing video. The eyes seem somewhat barely larger than normal. I suppose this is what is meant by a stylized look.

I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking of Tom Cruise when seeing the Bond design :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
glad to see Bond fans seem to be really happy about the game so far as well

To be fair, Bond fans have waited years for a decent-looking game. At this point, almost anything will do.

Looks neat.

  • Locations look good. Large.
I expect the building at 1:39 to be fully explorable.
  • Gameplay wise.
It’s a trailer. Certainly more punchy that what else the game can also be. Action looks good though. And with special set piece opportunities. Will try to never find it.
  • I wonder if a social approach is possible.
From the site description it looks like it.
  • The largest question I have, is campaign consequences. Hitman mission are fully independent. Freelancer added a bit with the alerted system.
But like, what if a recurring NPC is a made a trusted asset in a mission, could they bring more to a future one? What if they could be made a rival? What if both are possible? What if they die?
How would it meld with the mission replayability. Would it be part of the modifiers. Once unlocked being toggleable? Always on/available? Or maybe working like smuggle point or the morgue entry point in Sapienza?
  • Never been into 20-something protagonist in general. But if it’s in the name of story telling…

The fact that the IOI account bonus are called “skins” and not outfit/item/weapon worries me on the game structure though.

I’m under the impression that the chases won’t be separate but basically be part of the location, as an (organic?) opportunity, an end point to gameplay decision.
With each location with its own (car chase, boat chase, on foot…)

It remains to be seen how it is in game.
But for a cinematic trailer, the lady-man side of bond is present, as it would for the character. But didn’t see anything gratuitous. Which reassures me a bit.
It’s at least not going for the worst possible.

(between Absolution writing, and IOI partnerships and demo pursuit at all cost, I am still worried. I do not trust their decision making)

Finally:
White Tuxedo in the night firework scene.

From a first glance this looks promising. I’m enthousiastic enough to play it, but I’ll be waiting to see how the final product actually ends up being. I like the James Bond franchise so I might buy it later on. Then again, as said before, James Bond doesnt really have a track record of having good game adaptations. We’ll see how it turns out to be.

The gameplay looks fun enough. Some cool action sequences. Hopefully some good stealth gameplay as well. This iteration of Bond looks like a blend of Nathan Drake and Ethan Hunt (which isnt bad per se). I immediatly recognised the actor from Dexter: Original Sin. And Lennie James as the guy in the beginning of the trailer. Neat stuff. :+1: I’ll be keeping my eye on this.

Guys! Bond it’s not a Hitman game but Hitman is a Bond game.
I said this from 2016 that after each mission it doesn’t feel like an assassin killing his target with no mercy but rather that you saved the day again, god bless the queen.

I still strongly believe the new Hitman era was just a proving of what IOI is able to do in a spy atmosphere to get that 007 contract. Even the clothes in each mission felt like in a Bond universe.
So 007 being just like the latest Hitman is actually pure perfection.

I really really really hope that the Iceland mission mentioned will be this games pre-title sequence because Iceland is awesome and that’d be epic. If they want to replicate that James Bond movie feel then a pre-title sequence is non-negotiable.

Yeah, they heavily leaned into the aesthetic of the Craig era Bond films for WoA. Everything from the locations, the clothes, even the targets, it was all more Bondesque than previous games in the series. Although, I personally think that they were just leaning on that because it both works, and because that’s more where the public mentality was at the time they started it. I don’t think there was an actual goal of acquiring 007 rights when they set out to do this. Maybe for H3, but prior to that, nah, I don’t see that. When WoA was conceptualized, IOI were still on Square Enix’s leash, I doubt they had such lofty ambitions. But when the opportunity presented itself, they had a portfolio of proof to show they could handle it, and I’m 100% sure that helped seal the deal.

I’m expecting at least one character to be voiced by David Bateson.

A villain! He is perfect, he is British.

And he sounds like the voice of Death itself (take note, producers of the Final Destination franchise).
