007 First Light - State of Play, previews, and impressions (game release March 27th 2026)

007 First Light had its gameplay reveal.
The State of Play is now over, the game releases March 27th 2026.

You can follow the showcase on youtube, or on twitch:

In this upcoming State of Play, tune in for over 30 minutes of gameplay featuring a playthrough of Bond’s first mission as an MI6 recruit. The action includes everything from high-speed car chases to on-foot stealth sequences and shootouts. Stay tuned after the playthrough for insights from IO Interactive on the intense espionage gameplay.

This topic is to discuss it.
It’s enough of an event to merit its own topic.

Previews, and other impressions are being published now.
They are glowing.

For the sake of IOI: you can wishlist the game, just follow the link.

The current tally of them already unlocked suits, gadget skin, and a devs AMA. A secret reward is next.

Pre-orders are open too, at the same link.

I am sincerely intrigued.
Can’t wait to see what the devs did with the engine, the mechanics.
I’m certain it’s made with passion.

Core design will be my main look. With caution.

Can’t see the refined Swiss Cheese from Hitman be as appropriate, born from independent and equal location and target centred puzzle boxes, made to have the player stumble on alternatives to the singular type of objective set from the start, and one gameplay type, feeding itself, reinforcing itself.

Bond looks more main character and story centred, maybe with more varied, distinct, and possibly updating objectives. And I expect the gameplay to be more modal, maybe asking for curated designs without geographical overlap or circling around possible between them. Chases, social, stealth, shout-outs, boss fights?.. Hopefully still under the player agency, and open to their own challenge runs.

I don’t know if it will discuss here, but I’m curious on the game as a product.

Where it will be on the scale of stand-alone complete game, to some dlcs, to evergreen community creation with a contract mode equivalent, to full on roadmaps, to fomo based live service and elusive-like mission.

But the largest question remains:
Is there a dedicated Bond theme for the game?

And if yes, is there somewhere in a mountain, as an easter egg, a 150 meter long ladder to climb while we listen to it. :red_exclamation_mark:

Honestly, I am not. It’s like IOI wanted a more popular franchise to cash on, using the experience they made with WOA, adapting to 007.

I really want the game to be very different from Hitman, a game I played for nearly 10 years…

The newly created discord server for us hitman forum goers has a thread for more of a live chat! You can get invited by shooting a message over on that topic : The HMF Discord Server - #15 by Silvereyes

Some more info I’ve hoovered up:
:pink_heart:
Pre orders will start today - the standard edition is 60£/70$ and the physical collectors edition is 300$
Press and YouTubers have been invited to gamescom and ioi’s offices to see this already, and their videos and articles are also coming out today.

My thoughts:
I’m interested but never going to buy the game. I’m sure it will be a good one, but it’s obvious IOI has always been a bad company, and won’t change. 007 is a live service game, and will most likely have a somewhat problematic launch because of that. I won’t be part of the community any more by the time it releases.

State of play is live.

Looks like 007’s most dangerous enemy will be the frame rate.

Damn this is packing serious action, great job IO! Banking the plane to your advantage is a cool idea.

Graphics wise it is maybe not Unreal level but quite good. Frame rate was somewhat low I think but what bothered me the most is that things do not look that crisp, rather blurry in parts.

Had to deactivate the chat because people are just ugh :joy: Bond watching a building for 2 seconds? Kids get impatient.

Gonna watch the rest at a later point.

I saw that you can throw guns at people. I forget if that was already revealed or not but that was cool.

I really enjoyed that I think it looked cool

Thought the pacing and dialogue was a bit off during the mission playthrough. The second part showcasing the mechanics was much better.

That looked pretty cool overall. I am concerned over if the vehicle sections will get boring on replay though

IOI really love the Craig movies and these skins show it

I really liked the beautiful and detailed scenery, especially in the beginning during the hotel mission. Similarly to Hitman, there seem to be many different approaches the player can choose to take on a level, which is great. Some levels have rich environments, that can be manipulated and exploited. However, there are also scripted missions or segments like the car chase scene, which might not offer much replayability. Finally, I didn’t like the fighting, when Bond tried to catch the plane. That scene had way to many special effects and explosions for my taste and it’s probably also fairly scripted and therefore unavoidable. The gun fights at the end looked more interesting to me.

In a way it’s a missed opportunity to have the different actors as skins

eh likeness rights are expensive no reason to bloat the games budget to play as Sean Connery
