I know this might be far fetched, but if IO plans on having atleast one more location after Free Lancer I really hope it’s a Ether Facility cause of these pamphlets in the map.
There’s a lack of disguises on this map which has generally been a problem with H3. I haven’t unlocked all the starting locations but they seem pretty good even with only 2 disguise starts. They all seem to get you around the map and there isn’t an OP disguise start, i.e. the biker start in Berlin. I haven’t got all the exits either yet but there seems to be a lot of them. I can imagine it will be a decent level for contracts.
Has anyone found out if the Golden Idol triggers a secret in this level?
Honesty i think tho the fact theres risk involved of just killing people regularly with it means it takes some amount of skill and I kinda like it
Someone on reddit - only one person - described it as “one of the hitman maps ever”. That’s a little harsh but while I definitely think this is a good addition to Hitman 3’s greater level roster it’s not going to stick out as a particularly top tier map. Not bad either tho, I might put it above ICA, Bangkok, Colorado, Hawke’s Bay, Santa Fortuna, Isle of Sgail, Haven, Dubai, Dartmoor, Chongqing and Carpathian but below everything else. So it is by definition ‘mid’ technically but a good kind of mid
Also where it is it on Xbox in the campaign tab?
Yeah i agree. The student couldve been a disguise, Orson couldve been a disguise (even tho he uses the colombia outfit), Crest couldve been a disguise, etc. Even if the disguises are pointless it adds more to contracts mode
So either I have a particularly odd bug or there are just not enough challenges in this map to get Mastery 20.
I have completed all 53 challenges I have listed on PS5, and find it odd that this has the category for “The Classics” in the challenges section, but has no classic challenges of its own. There is no Silent Assassin, Suit Only, SASO, No Evidence, Sniper Assassin challenges for this map, all of which would have easily got enough XP to get to mastery level 20.
But as it stands for me, at the moment, I have all challenges done, and i got about 19.6/20 on mastery just playing through the level over and over till i got all the challenges done.
Not that I cant get that last little mastery from just grinding the level, I just find it odd, that basically all other levels have more than enough challenges to get mastery level 20 and still have a bunch of spare challenges.
The sooner we stop putting so much stock in Reddit, the better we’ll be as a society.
I’m (fairly) confident they’ll add those sooner or later. I also assume they’ll add an escalation or two, among other things so if they don’t add The Classics before an escalation, they’ll probably do so by then.
I wish I was as optimistic, but the SA/SO challenges have been a part of almost every level at launch for all 3 games, so the fact that this particular level is missing the “bread and butter” standard challenges basically all levels have, makes me think its absence was on purpose, for whatever reason.
Well after having completed the map through to Mastery level 20 here are my (rather long) thoughts on it. Overall there were a ton of things I liked:
-
Lucas Grey being the handler - One issue I had with Hitman 3 is that Grey didn’t get much time to shine, so it was nice to have another level where he has a major role. I especially like Grey’s lines in this when he compliments 47.
-
Noel Crest - I love that Noel is a target that fights back. It makes perfect sense given his character and yet I didn’t expect it at all and almost got killed by him. It may be too much work or break the routines but it would be awesome if they updated past targets to have weapons (Sean Rose, Rico Delgado, Nolan Cassidy, etc.)
-
Starting locations - There are four suit starting locations where you have an unrestricted loadout and can also choose any suit you want, the most of any Hitman 3 map. Another issue I had with Hitman 3 was how the maps had so few unrestricted suit starting locations, with Dubai and Berlin only having one. It was a nice change of pace to have so many here.
-
The Ruins Area - I like the ruins because it feels different from the Sapienza ruins, has Sean 2 patrolling around it, and uses the destructible walls more. This is a reused asset, but they were barely used outside of this mission so it was nice to see them again. I how you can get one breaching charge to silently break one of the walls, but you have to choose which one you want. I like that the shortcut here is pretty hidden, it took me a while to find it whereas all the other shortcuts in 3 were fairly easy to find.
-
Mastery Unlocks - The items themselves are kinda meh, but I love that every single item you unlock can actually be found inside the level; this is the only level in the WoA trilogy to do this. I would’ve rather had the Durian instead of the Emetic Gas Grenade, but the real disappointment is things like the Banana and the Doubloons aren’t unlocks.
-
A Unique Map - Even though pre-launch a lot of people were saying the map seems like a combination of Haven and Santa Fortuna, it really feels like its own unique thing and not a copy of a previous level. The best thing is the map didn’t feel like it was lacking in content despite having the fewest challenges of any non-tutorial or epilogue map in the trilogy.
-
Guerilla Wetsuit - Yes it’s kinda disappointing that the suit’s a reskin, but I do think that it looks better than the Tactical Wetsuit
-
The ______ - The targets are referred to as The Ronin and The Corsair in their challenges in Targets. This format is how all the targets in Hitman 1 or 2 were named. Except for Berlin the other Hitman 3 levels just had Eliminate Target Name (for example, Eliminate Carl Ingram and Eliminate Marcus Stuyvesant in Dubai) so it was nice to have them go back to giving the targets cooler nicknames (maybe they could go back to 3’s other target challenges and change them too)
-
Untouchable - This isn’t part of the map itself but it’s a really nice touch that they thought to update the hallucination in Untouchable to also include Noel Crest and Sinhi Venthani.
There are also some pretty weird things with this map:
-
It’s weird that they didn’t get David Bateson back to do any new voice lines but they got Jane Perry and John Hopkins back to reprise their roles as Diana and Grey and the map’s filled with new voice lines from targets and NPCs. It makes me worried Freelancer won’t have any new lines from 47 either.
-
It’s weird that they forgot to add The Classics challenges to the map, especially considering they’re a staple of every mission. Because of this, there isn’t even enough XP from the current challenges to reach Mastery level 20 and you need to do some grinding. What I did to grind was get the master key and unlock all the locked doors around the shantytown for 25 XP each.
-
It’s weird that they reuse the Miami music for extraction. You’d think they would’ve chosen Santa Fortuna’s extraction track. It seemed like most of the time there was no ambient music playing at all, I could understand if they didn’t want to pay Niels Bye Nielsen to compose more music or he wasn’t available, but then they could’ve just reused the ambient music from some other level like Bangkok and Hokkaido did.
-
It’s weird that no mission stories are marked at all despite there being several of them on the map. With Berlin they weren’t marked because the map is supposed to make you feel isolated with no outside help. However there’s not really any story reason for this in Ambrose Island.
-
It’s weird that so many assassination challenges are redacted despite most of them being pretty simple to obtain by doing a mission story. Most of the redacted assassination challenges in other maps are because they’re related to easter eggs.
Overall, this map is great, easily the best post-launch content in Hitman 3 so far. It’s too soon to fully rank it but I’d say it’s on par with Mendoza, my favorite Hitman 3 map. Would love if this map drives a huge resurgence of people to the game and we get a Year 3 with new content. I’d also love to see this map get some post-launch support besides Featured Contracts on it, be it an escalation, an ET, or even some single challenges with new unlocks added. Regardless of if they do any of this in the future, I’m glad we finally got the promised six 20 Mastery locations in Hitman 3.
I have the same problem.
The thing is this levels challenges got leaked and the classics were there. So this is a weird bug
Also also, if it had the classics there itd make it 49 challenges. About four less than new york i think? Good amount
Thats an awesome detail
I really hope we get an escalation for this map. There’s enough interesting stuff here to support at least one.
I just put in another 5 hours. So 11 total now. I’m off to bed but I thoroughly am enjoying this level.
I was able to figure out all the challenges save for the pirate life and the two target smoking ones, but I haven’t attempted those 3 yet. I am still a fan of the no mission stories setup. Grey gives you plenty of vocal hints and this way I’m not getting frustrated bc I skipped one insignificant step. Last thing I did was go for SA/SO and I was able to do it but I did bring in 2 poisons. I took the easy method for Creat with his food and then I got Akka’s whiskey glass in the room where she talks to the injured pirate. I thought that might be tricky but it’s not really. You have to move smooth but not lighting fast to clear out that room. Getting to the satelite controller and then leaving by tactical boat required me to put 3 cave guards in boxes, but I’m sure someone slicker than I am could do it faster/removing less guards. It took me 22:23 and I removed 5 total NPCs all of which were guards and I freed Smith.
Like others I wish the actual classic challenges were there but I’m sure that will get fixed.
Super solid level overall. I’d certainly pay for a few more like this.
A CRUMB OF LORE!!!
GREY SNARKING AT DIANA!!!
DIANA ROLLING HER EYES!!!
And apparently 47 has an incredibly strong right arm…good to know…
This is very much not true! 47 has alot more voicelines in this map than most other maps!
(Previous claim was that he had the most, I’m going to check that now)
Hear, hear! I finished the Mendoza escalation just a few weeks ago and was disappointed it ended up being the last one for a very, very long time now (it came out sometime one year ago, I think?)
They were usually kind of simple, yes, but they each offered a nice twist or special gimmick to it not featured in the original levels.
Can’t say anything about Ambrose yet as I haven’t been able to play it, but another escalation would be great
I think it’s likely we’ll get an escalation, and possibly an ET considering it’s free for all Hitman 3 owners not like the paid DLC maps in Hitman 2.
Took me like 2 minutes The intel picture from the letter literally points you to the spot
Same here. Was pleasantly surprised when he pulled a gun on me and joined the fight.
Glad I´m not the only one who noticed
Only real difference I noticed so far (aside from possibly the cannon kill time mentioned by Yacob) is that in this scenario, Akka drinks from one of the glasses in the meeting room, giving you an opportunity for a poison/drowning kill (she goes to the toilets from here, whereas from her office she goes throwing up into the bushes).
This right here. Best thing about the mission right next to Smith´s appearance and Crest´s guard behaviour. I really think the absence of the codename challenge names in the majority of H3 missions is an oversight and one that IO shoud finally fuc*ing fix after a year and half.
