Ambrose Island - Pre-release Discussion

Hmm wouldn’t put it like that. As they didn’t know how Hitman 3 would turn out after a middling launch for Hitman 2. If going by the idea of had this as existing map then would be more likely the level that made the cutting list when scaling back Hitman 3 for budget reasons. When Hitman 3 showed to be making profit soon after release and decided to focus on a year two, they pulled out the half finished (Plans or early prototyping) map and went from there.
Also would not make much sense to make a DLC level then hold it back a year and a half.

I think it is more likely of a cut idea or plan from the trilogy and started development a year or so ago.

Though I do wish it wasn’t so connected to Hitman 3’s story and perhaps used as a Map for a smaller campaign similar to Patient Zero with a few remixed levels from the Trilogy. Given Hitman 2 maps need some remix love as well.

Also remember that Hakan said in Year 2 Announcement video that they have few surprises that fans have been asking for a long time. Whatever that means. I think we are getting something more than Freelancer and one new map…

Agreed, but as I mentioned elsewhere, there´s a chance that this is something that still might happen in the future, before they end H3´s live support or decide to finally repack the trilogy as a single WoA definitive edition or something like that. Who knows, maybe they have plans/ideas for it…

The one positive I see about this map/mission being set before H3 and fitting into the story is that the location won´t be awkwardly sitting behind Carpathian Mountains on the location screen.

Typed like a dude who has never checked out the Featured Contracts Challenges menu… :stuck_out_tongue: We know IOI, this could end up ANYWHERE!

Wondering if this mission will count with ICA assitance, assuming this was before they discovered 47 and Diana went rogue.

A good question. Since the last official word from Diana to ICA in the matter was that Janus was the real Shadow Client, and his and Cassidy’s deaths completed the contract Providence put forth, and no new work came to them in the two months that followed before the kidnapping of the Constant, I’m going to assume that there won’t be assistance from them. 47 and Diana were doing their independent work, and unless 47 did some hits in that two month period (such as the Siberian sniper mission), then they were declining any offers ICA sent to them, with Diana probably giving reasons for declining that they found acceptable. It was only when Edwards put in the hit on 47 and Olivia that ICA realized what had been happening. So for the entire last three missions of H2, and the first two of H3, ICA was a blissfully unaware 3rd party with no involvement. As far as we know, anyway.

In the fourth paragraph of this article the author states Ambrose will be given out for free Hitman 3's roguelike mode has been delayed but a new map is coming early | Rock Paper Shotgun

It is likely a journalistic oversight but might be journalistic insight. I don’t care to create an account on RPS to comment.

Alternate Theory: Ambrose Island will be free. Freelancer will be paid DLC.

Speculation: ioi decided that Freelancer (after play testing, player feedback) would have more value and sell better than the new level.

Maybe Ambrose Island is small, like Mastery Level 5 small!?

I don’t think it will be small, but I think you might be onto something with everything else you’ve said.

@47Agent That’s a good theory. IF Freelancer is paid DLC, that also makes me believe that Ambrose Island might be free because they’d want as many maps as possible available for Freelancer mode.

I am not 100% sure on it being just 5 Mastery Levels like Hawke’s Bay and Carpathian Mountains though. I personally am imagining it being bigger than those two maps, but smaller than most of the maps (maybe around the size of but smaller than Haven Island and New York because those were also DLC Maps).

From the screenshots I’ve seen, I can’t really see it being as small as Hawke’s Bay and Carpathian Mountains.

I do know that both Whittleton Creek and New York both have a max Mastery Level 15 (and New York was a paid DLC map).

I am personally hoping for at least Mastery Level 10 for Ambrose Island because we haven’t seen Mastery Level 10 mission yet. But considering precedents set from other maps, it could be any amount between 5, 15, or 20 Mastery Levels. I doubt it’d be 20 IF the map is free though.

I remember hearing that some people were upset by Mastery Level 5 on Hawke’s Bay though, so maybe IOI wants to avoid that “controversy” again and go with either a max of Mastery 10 or 15.

Regardless, I am happy with whatever map/Mastery level we get as long as the mission is fun to play. I hope the unlocks we get from Mastery are cool too.

Hope we get plenty of new Mission Stories in Ambrose Island.

The very best experiences that the WoA has provided with me over the last 6 years have been going into a brand new map for the first time with Mission Story Guidance turned fully Off in the settings, and then slowly exploring the map looking for threads to tug on eventually leading to a cool cinematic kill on your target(s). There simply isn’t a better feeling in gaming for me, and I hope we get plenty more of it in July.

Will be interesting. I guess good things come to those that wait.

Yes! I’m all in for more small cutscenes like the one when we killed Jasper Knight in that Ejection seat or feeding Rico Delgado to Mijo. Or that awesome moment we killed Silvio Caruso disguised as the plague doctor. Damn, how I missed such moments in Hitman 3 🥹

Yes some unique cinematic kills we’ve never experienced before. Personally, I’ve wanted for some years now to see 47 swing a wrecking ball, hit the target, send them flying, and have them land either in a scrap heap of jagged metal, a tangle of power lines, or just a plain brick wall to splatter against.

With you a 100% on this. I also hope that it will come with some new/unique kill opportunities. With the exception of Mendoza, H3 seriously underperformed/underdelivered in this regard.

I dunno, I’d give them credit for Dartmoor as well. Alexa had a lot of death options when following the script and nearly all of them were executed in a pretty cool way.

Oh yeah, Dartmoor would be an honorable mention, as the kill options were very well executed. But aside from the proxy poisoning kill, all the other options were just variations on the “usual” stuff (puddle electrocution, pushing off balcony/into shaft, suffocating with a pillow…) we had seen and done numerous times before. I wish they had somehow made more use of the surrounding marshes for that purpose…
