Announcing New Elusive Target: The Drop (Year 5: March 13 - April 5 2025)

Lets cast our minds back to March 2021. Hitman 3 just released 2 months ago. All is good.

IOI now announce the 7DS and that they will be $5 each.

Greed releases, and is basically something you can make in contracts mode with an extra mechanic (the frog). You paid $5 for this (or $30 if you bought the bumper pack).

Point is, Greed was not a good starting point as it does not reflect the quality of all the future sins.

I’m afraid I must disagree completely. Greed was the very best sin of the bunch, and the reason why is because it actually conveyed its sin in a way to make the player feel it, as well as properly illustrating how and why 47 should be experiencing it as it relates to his hallucination, both done in a way that only Pride and Gluttony came close to achieving.

All the others barely touched on their sins; Envy only made me feel envious that the Rival could move about the map without suspicion; Wrath only made me feel wrathful toward the escalation, not with it; and I couldn’t even tell you what Lust and Sloth were even supposed to be about, as they certainly didn’t make me lust for anything, nor make me feel very slothful with how hard I had to work to achieve success in that one, to say nothing of how 47 was supposed to be feeling in regards to those two.

Greed, however… Greed made me feel it, and it was the most clear as to what and why 47 was feeling about it. If you wanted to collect every single coin, and not spend any on the frog’s weapons, and still wanted an SA rating, like I did, it made you work for it. Not only did it make me want to get and keep every coin possible even more the more I tried, but it even makes you feel the consequences of the sin - I wouldn’t have had to put in so much work if I hadn’t been so greedy for those coins (and to a lesser but related extent, if I hadn’t been so prideful about maintaining my perfect rating [pride is the greatest of sins and the one from which all other sins are born, something that was missing from its own escalation]).

Greed was the best escalation in conveying its sin, both in and out of game, in terms of both presentation and function, and while the gimmick may have been simple compared to the others that followed, that simplicity was what allowed it to succeed at its mission, because it stayed focused on the sin in every single aspect, unlike the other escalations.

Apologies all, just thought I’d make a clever (in my own mind, at least) little play on words on @schatenjager’s post above, didn’t intend for a huge detour to 7DS discussion. We should probably get back on topic.

So… The Drop, eh?

Can’t wait to figure out how to kill him.

Yes, I am looking forward to taking PRIDE in killing this new elusive target. I hope that I am not SLOTHfull when I approach it though. My score is sure to be the ENVY of all of the other players too. In fact I’m so confident that the Drop will be feeling my WRATH that I imagine that everyone else will be GLUTTONous of the manner in which I kill him. They will be sure to feel GREED for the amazing unlocks that i’m sure will be award as well! It’s going to be so great that LUST may result when other players view my approach.

Ok, tied it all back together. We’re safe now!

I’m not sure you used lust and gluttony correctly there, just saying.

Meh, whatever.

I must say tho, if there is no Falling Object kill while the beat drops, this target has kinda fell off already.

nothing will beat his “Screeech” conversation with Cole!

Anyway… don’t know ho Vegas is, I’m more concerned about his routines. I don’t want a target going in small circles near the dj booth, with cheap accident kills around it; still, I’m happy with this but rather have the other maps in freelancer.

About this thing I wrote here the other day:

I just happened upon this wording in IO’s announcement of their new Brighton studio:

The hope is alive, guys

The hope…

My hope still sticks to that pamphlet about Ether we found on Ambrose Island (which was in the snow btw :eyes:).

I want this to be an Ether research lab where they keep Grey and we go on a safety mission to get him out of there :face_holding_back_tears: Agent Smith is there, too, and Diana.

And we all can live happily ever after :two_hearts:

A girl can dream :face_holding_back_tears:

Well they did say after launch in 2021 that Hitman will return. So they could just be having some early development for the next game. I doubt there will be a major DLC personally. But we can hope.

The minor DLC (The Sarajevo Six and the Trinity, Street Art, and Makeshift packs) are more what I’m expecting.

Although, in general, I’m not expecting more DLC, would be nice to be proven wrong.

I mean, me too, I hope there’s an arctic ether research lab mission (for different reasons than Grey) but, to me… a lot of signs point to a no?

Like, the beginning of Year 2 they showed off the two biggest content drops, Freelancer and Ambrose Island. That’s a whole new map, had eyes glued onto IOI for half a year, and they still released it for free.

If there were some other map in the works, I really feel like they’d have told us about it.

The new ET is nice and I’m hoping for a couple of unique surprises in the coming months for IOI’s 25th – hopefully new small content and archived content stuck in the files – but a new map, idk… :persevere:

IOI, if you release a new map, I will pay for it.

Who’s with me! Aaaaaaaaaaah!

I feel that new maps are off the table after they did the restructuring to WoA. Though, IO have surprised us lately so who really knows.

Them squeezing in a new ET is a tier of map altering that isn’t too great compared to others.

I think a more reasonable plea would be Bonus Mission tier stuff, but at this point I’d almost rather them continue with the long standing bug fixes.

Still hoping for Patient Zero 2 as hinted at in the ending cinematic of Patient Zero… :sob:
