Ask HMF anything

I always appreciate seeing likes whatever the reasons, I should give them out more myself. It’s nice to see your posts get appreciated and read, especially for what I said a few weeks back on the Serious Issues thread. Thanks again forum!

I once asked if “you” (as in whoever was reading my post at that moment) if when they ever come across a post that has 9 likes… Do you ever go ahead and give it that 10th like so the person (also) gets a ‘Nice Reply’ award? Even if that post was made (maybe) over a month ago(?).

Well, let me tell ya!

Someone (I will not @ them, but they know who they are should they read this  ) must’ve gone through my activity and looked for just that. Posts where I had 9 likes… I can’t recall the exact number but it was well into double digits… might’ve been 20 some notifications. I was like “What the hell!?” :joy:

Not that that has much to do with what you were asking, but it reminded me, and it’s something I found amusing.

Edit: There’s also the aspect of working your way toward becoming a ‘Regular’. Which involves giving a certain amount of likes to posts (I believe). There are other ‘goals’ one has to work towards such as replying to topics, read time… and a number of other things.

But eh… anyway. That’s another reason why people might give likes. The roadmap to becoming a regular doesn’t necessarily rate the quality of actions as it does the quantity of actions that it perceives as ‘engagement’.

This is a case where silence is NOT golden. Maybe if I made more mundane, non-contributing comments I too could become a reg.

@YellowZR1 always likes my posts, especially the random ones. That’s why he was one of my nominees for friendliest member
I myself do that and I won’t stop. I think that after a while you don’t receive like notifications, cause I like 4 year old posts😁

Not mentioned here but @Codename-24 , @magicdave94 and many others also frequently like my posts. The shoutout is a good one btw.

I just… I just think the like button is cool.

Never mind, I had no idea you could un-delete a post. But boy, did that piss me off all the same.

So in other words… noone asked?
I think I’ve been told that one far too much
This is a public forum, and any message posted can be ready by anyone. I have more likes a day than I can actually give out, so if I think “yes” to a message or someone has continued the mission championship thread or something, I’ll “like” that. If you’d rather I not like your posts, ok!!! I can keep clear, but I’d like to offer likes to people since it makes a number go up on the forum and that’s fun. Especially when there’s 9 likes and my one will send a Nice Reply award out.
oh, and i liked that post when i read it not when it was posted. my bad if that meant a notification got sent a day or two after the post was made.

What are the other formatting options that don’t appear in the three bars bar (this, this this)?
I know there’s a block that looks like a quote, something like

this maybe (I did it)
and also strikethrough, which I have no idea how to do.

~~like this~~
# You also have this
## this
### and this
#### and just add more pound signs for smaller text (I think)
`we also have this`
``and this, both of which you can split on multiple lines``
(don’t mix them, it quickly becomes a mess)
and you can add a space before a link to stop it from embedding into a “Onebox”
like this
https://youtu.be/7mBqm8uO4Cg
or you can do this
(the greater than and less than symbols don’t show up when you do it, don’t worry)
<https://youtu.be/7mBqm8uO4Cg>
you can also have text be tied to a URL by doing this
[sample text](https://youtu.be/7mBqm8uO4Cg)
which looks like this
Another thing you can do (which you probably knew about) is including quotation marks or apostrophes in the dropdown menu’s caption. You will need to use one of them to identify the caption, but you can use the other as part of the caption.

[details=“‘This will have apostrophes on either side of the text’”]
The quotes are on the outside
[/details]

[details=‘“This will have quotation marks on either side of the text”’]
The quotes are on the inside
[/details]

You can also have a “fake” quote by doing this

[quote=“Floople”]
sample text
[/quote]

you can also use tildes for the coding blocks

Sorry mate I don’t know of any hidden formatting options.

And if I did I’d never tell.

Dude you are giving away my act.

But you didn’t give away the whole show!

Jokes on you. This link is outdated (I guess).

Very well, I shall change the link so it is no longer a Rickroll.

Just kept the goddamn Rickroll… Why? Why? I didn’t even watch it but it’s outta be worse, like one of those creppy Full Stop Punctuation stuff. If you don’t know what it is, don’t search it up. It’s not worth your brain.

Getting rickrolled is a nice surprise sometimes. Like when you come across a candy that fell between your couch cushions. Hey hey! Free candy!

On the bright side, everything in the video makes much more sense than the average TikTok user’s typing…

Wait, how is this “on the bright side” again?

What is a TikTok user?
