CHONGQING, China (Mission #4) - Location Discussion

Care to give details?
Also it’s an item and not an environment piece, so I could forgive that one

Do you have a video of the extensive lower levels before they were blocked off?

Art imitates life. Wouldn’t it be something to knockout the countrywide surveillance and internet censorship in China with a coin, lockpick and a Silverballer?

Search for “Chongqing out of bounds” on YT and you’ll find some.

It’s been brought up a few times, including in the Khandanyyang discussion thread, that the Korean spelling on the goldbar is entirely wrong.

And before anyone say about “detail no one would notice”, it’s very prominent in the icon.

How about, detail nobody would care enough to notice? Seems like a reason it got through. “Seems like work. Eh, the players are idiots, they’re not gonna care enough about what this says.”

Oh well, yeah again as I said since it’s only an item they likely didn’t bother very much, it’s less important than environment

To be honest, this is my least favorite level in the trilogy. It didn’t even feel like I was playing Hitman. It felt like I was playing Deus Ex.

Chongqing felt like a boring dystopia with generic sci-fi stuff.

Both of the targets were really dull too especially Hush who sits down in his chair for so long.

I hope we can get a bustling Chongqing map but I don’t think it’ll happen :disappointed:

How is this a bad thing? :face_with_peeking_eye:

Maybe it’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t feel any cyberpunk mood on Chongquing, neither in the discounted underground ICA base, with those easily screwdable vents.
I feel Hokkaido it’s more cyberpunk than it.
Btw, I still enjoy this map.

If I wanted to play Deus Ex then I’d play Deus Ex. Felt lazy and unoriginal to me. Is IO Interactive running out of ideas?

The Deus Ex games have way larger maps than Chongqing.

The pandemic happened and Hitman 3 suffered a great deal. You can tell there was supposed to be so much more to do in each level. Maybe a miracle will happen and IO will retroactively update the maps to the standards of H1/H2. They must have started on Mendoza first before the pandemic, because it really is the only level that feels complete. All speculation, mind you.

The locations in the Hitman Trilogy which were created with the greatest effort and budget was Paris (a fortress) and Sapienza (a snail house), which were the model for how the rest of the locations were made. They were created over many years especially 2014 and 2015 before its 2016 release.

Despite the pandemic, Hitman 3 was made under less duress than Hitman2016 and Hitman 2. Hitman2016 sales were terrible, and they were sold by Square Enix. They had a very tight budget for Hitman 2, as IOI were newly independent. IOI really hit their groove with Hitman 3. It was a company who knew their product and fanbase.

I like that the vibe of each location of Hitman is completely different. Some have a feel like Deus Ex or cyberpunk, but it is cool that there is some that feel one way and others feel a different way.

Mendoza’s actually evidenced to be perhaps the most rushed level, if the bugginess, lack of flexibility in mission stories and lack of contracts mode names on some npcs until recent is any indication

I think they mean a bonus map/side mission within Chongqing, like Sapienza and Marrakesh.
