Cross progression is coming to Hitman WoA February 2nd

On this day, exactly 5 years ago, HITMAN 3 launched worldwide for our players to experience, as the final chapter of the World of Assassination trilogy. As part of that special milestone, it was also important for HITMAN to equip its players with a sense of continuity by allowing everyone to bring forward their established progression from previous parts.

In relation to that anniversary, we are pleased to announce that:

  • A brand-new, fresh look launches today for our IOI Account (browser & mobile)

  • Cross-Progression is coming to HITMAN World of Assassination, set to go live on February 3rd. Since the release of HITMAN World of Assassination, it has been our wish to enable this feature for players to be able to carry on their in-game progression, whatever the device you play on, and even more so since HITMAN WOA is now playable on more than 10 different platforms. Whether you’re switching from console to PC, playing on multiple devices, or changing to a new platform, your progression will now follow you, from the 3rd of February onwards, no matter where you choose to play. In addition, a 3.250.1 Steam patch will be going live next week to ensure proper Cross-Progression functioning ahead of its launch on February 3rd.

We gathered some key information below, which you will also be able to find in the FAQ at the following link:

https://ioisupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/32645592211229-HITMAN-World-of-Assassination-Cross-Progression-Guide

Cross-Progression

When Cross-Progression is enabled, your progression will be stored online and shared across all supported platforms you link to your IOI Account. Cross-Progression uses a Primary Account model, meaning that when you link platforms to your IOI Account, one platform profile of your choice becomes your primary progression profile, and all other linked platforms follow that profile.

The following progression data is shared across platforms:

  • Experience

  • Player Level

  • Challenges

  • Location Mastery

  • Unlocks and Inventory

  • Achievements / Trophies

  • Freelancer Mode Progression

  • Campaign Story Progress

This ensures that whether you’re completing Silent Assassin challenges, unlocking items, or building out your Freelancer safehouse, your progress remains consistent across platforms.

The following are not shared across platforms:

  • Game license

  • DLC license

  • DLC-based unlocks

To access specific locations, missions, or DLC items on another platform, you must own that content on that platform. If you do not own a piece of content on a platform, you will not have access to it, or its associated unlocks there, even if you unlocked them elsewhere.

Game Saves

Players should keep in mind the following when enabling Cross-Progression:

  • Old save games created on a non-primary linked account will not be loadable while Cross-Progression is active.

  • If players want to use older saves from their non-primary linked accounts, they can disable Cross-Progression at any time. Doing so will revert each of their non-primary linked accounts to the exact state they were in before Cross-Progression was activated, restoring access to the saves on those platforms.

HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3 Carryover

Back in January 2021, alongside HITMAN 3’s worldwide launch, we introduced the HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3 Carryover system, allowing our players to move their progression from HITMAN 2 into HITMAN 3.

Now, to enable Cross-Progression in HITMAN World of Assassination using our IOI Account, the HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3 carryover process must be closed, meaning it won’t be possible to proceed with the carryover past February 3rd, 2026.

This guarantees data integrity and prevents conflicts between legacy progression systems and the new unified WOA progression.

Past February 3rd 9:00 UTC / 10:00 CET players won’t be able to proceed to the HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3 carryover, giving you two weeks to proceed to the carryover if you are yet to do so.

Guidelines for the HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3 carryover are available here.

This is huge for people who play on console and PC or have both Epic and Steam. Great work IOI, well done!

Not sure how many people are affected by this, but please be aware:

So uh…apparently I just wished this into existence.

This is a long time coming. I have complained about this for years, quite literally four days ago and ten minutes ago in fact. I’m very happy that this is being added.

Small criticism:

I’m not particularly happy with this part, especially the “This guarantees data integrity and prevents conflicts between legacy progression systems and the new unified WOA progression”. I understand why you’re doing this, but it’s still a bit of a kick in the teeth for those who have Hitman 2 and will have to start again in Hitman 3.

The wording kind of implies that you can have both systems working concurrently, but it’d make it more difficult to do, which…yeah, I don’t find to be a very palatable reason.

This also means it’ll now be impossible to transfer the 2016 legacy unlocks (Black Winter Coat, Travel Briefcase, ET Coin) from 2016 → 2, and then to 3 via this system. I would strongly suggest adding alternative means for these unlocks to be obtainable in the game.

Anyway, a heartfelt thank you to @IOI_Artjoms for listening, and the rest of the dev team for all this! What a way to end Year 5!

I wonder if contracts will become crossplay because of this, because like will my favorites from one platform be transferred to another?

FIVE YEARS ALREADY😳

I’ve reviewed the public information.
While contracts weren’t specifically mentioned, does this mean that while cross-progression is enabled, contracts can only be created using the primary account, and only the primary account can access contracts already created?
Also, if cross-progression is disabled and the primary account is removed, will the existing contracts revert to their original state?
Also, when other users play a contract, will the published contract be the primary one? Or will it only be contracts linked to non-primary accounts tied to the hardware?
I’d really like to see more information about contracts.

It’s a shame the DLC can’t be carried over.
I was hoping to be able to play Disruptor on Switch 2 too…

IOI Account Cross-Progression Complete FAQ

Q: What is Cross-Progression?

A: Cross-Progression is a new feature coming to HITMAN World of Assassination launching on February 3rd. When Cross-Progression is enabled, your progression will be stored online and shared across all supported platforms you link to your IOI Account. This way you can progress the game across multiple platforms.

Q: When will it be available?

A: Cross-Progression will be launching on the 3rd of February, 2026, at 10:00 UTC / 11:00 CET.

Q: Do I need to purchase HITMAN World of Assassination on other platforms if I want to have access to the Cross-Progression update?

A: Yes. Ownership or license is not shared across platforms meaning that in order to play the game on another platform and access your progression you need to own the game on the platform of choice.

Q: Do I need to have an IOI Account?

A: Yes. To access Cross-Progression, you need to have an IOI Account and link your player profile with the progression data you want to access on another platform.

Q: Which progress data is shared if I turn on the IOI Account Cross-Progression?

A: The following progression data is shared across platforms:

  • Experience
  • Player Level
  • Challenges
  • Location Mastery
  • Unlocks and Inventory
  • Achievements / Trophies
  • Freelancer Mode Progression
  • Campaign Story Progress
    • Story completion is tied to unlockables, so your campaign state will carry over without triggering spoiler warnings if you’ve already completed content.

This ensures that whether you’re completing Silent Assassin challenges, unlocking items, or building out your Freelancer safehouse, your progress remains consistent across platforms.

Q: Which progress data is NOT shared with the use of the IOI Account Cross-Progression?

A: Please note that elements such as your Save Games (offline and online), Leaderboard scores, as well as DLCs and Bundles ownership does not transfer across platforms with the use of IOI Account Cross-Progression.

Q: What if I own different parts of HITMAN World of Assassination on other platforms? Will my progress and ownership be recognized?

A: IOI Account Cross-Progression allows for synchronization of such elements as XP, Mastery Tracks, Challenge Completions, Unlocks (e.g. Suits, Weapons, Items), Twitch Drop unlocks, and Achievements / Trophies. As such, DLCs and Bundle licenses are not synchronized.

Q: What platforms are compatible with the IOI Account Cross-Progression update?

A: If Cross-Progression is enabled you can access your progression data across the following platforms:

  • Sony (PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5)
  • Microsoft (Windows, Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S)
  • Steam (Windows)
  • Epic Games Store (Windows)
  • Nintendo (Switch & Switch 2)
  • Apple (iOS)

Q: How can I link my accounts?

A: To access Cross-Progression you need to link your game profile to an IOI Account. Create and verify your account IOI Account on the IOI Account website https://account.ioi.dk/. After launching HITMAN World of Assassination on your desired platform, you can activate the Cross-Progression.

Q: I do not want to link my console account yet. Can I do it later?

A: Yes. Cross-Progression is not mandatory and can be added later if you wish to.

Q: I accidentally linked the wrong accounts. Can I change it?

A: Yes. You will need to unlink your account from Cross-Progression first. Doing so will revert the progression on secondary platforms to the last known state before you’ve enabled Cross-Progression initially.

Q: Will I be able to link an additional account if I start playing on a new platform?

A: There can only be one account linked to a given platform at the same time. In other words, if you wish to change the linked profile to connect another profile via another platform you first need to unlink the previous account. Doing so would revert the save game of all platforms to pre-Cross-Progression state besides the originally linked account profile.

Q: Can I link two accounts to the same platform?

A: There can only be one account linked to Cross-Progression at the same time. You would first need to unlink the previous account before linking another account to Cross-Progression.

Q: How do I unlink an account?

A: To unlink one of your accounts, please log into your IOI Account via account.ioi.dk, head over to the “Linked accounts” section, and select “Disconnect” next to the account you wish to unlink.

Q: If I buy a DLC on one platform, will I be able to play it on another platform?

A: No. Ownership of DLCs is not something shared across platforms, since this is tied to the specific platforms. If you do not own a piece of content on a platform, you will not have access to it, or its associated unlocks there, even if you unlocked them elsewhere.

Q: Can I play on multiple platforms simultaneously with the same account?

A: No. You will only be able to run one session per account linked to Cross-Progression.

Q: Are achievements going to be shared across all platforms?

A: Achievements and trophies will be shared between platforms and will be unlocked automatically after booting up the game for the first time if the achievements or trophies are unlocked on your main account used for the Cross-Progression.

Q: Can I still transfer my progress from HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3?

A: To enable Cross-Progression in HITMAN World of Assassination, the HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3 carryover process must be closed, meaning it won’t be possible to proceed with the Carryover past February 3rd, 2026, 9:00 UTC / 10:00 CET.

This guarantees data integrity and prevents conflicts between legacy progression systems and the new unified WOA progression.

This is fantastic news! :slightly_smiling_face:

Without any kind of merge to get back old ETs & such I can’t really say I’m as excited for this as I would have been 5 or 6 years ago, but it’s definitely a good & welcome change going forward

Are the platform specific suits transferable? Or is that barred under DLC

Oh that is such a good question. I know the Nintendo stuff is dlc so it won’t cross-over but i’m not sure about the platform suits. (@IOI_Artjoms )

I assume platform-specific stuff called that way not without a reason.
Unless they erase borders between “platform exclusive item”, all remains as it is which from my view is exactly the case in this situation.
I would assume this kind of stuff is considered like DLC

Wow, we’re only a few weeks into 2026, and already I’d say it’s shaping up to be the best year for supporting the game since Freelancer was added!

Edit: I wonder if the Disruptor MMA suit for doing the mission on PS5 can transfer to PC

Also, something important to note from the site:

Please remember that the Cross-Progression can be disabled. Once disabled, all other connected Accounts will return to their previous state (from before Active Account selection).

The old 2 to 3 carryover was just a one time thing, so I’m very happy that cross progression can be turned off and on again!

Stay alert about proper offline mode announcement later this year

(it’s not an announcement of an announcement and not an insider info, just a joke prediction which very well might turn out to be true at some point)

It’s still torture. Before HITMAN 3 goes on sell, I bought the full version of HITMAN 1 and HITMAN 2 on Steam. And then the EGS monopolized the HITMAN 3. So I bought the whole HITMAN 3 on EGS. Now it is announced that the progress of various platforms is synchronized. I want to play back on Steam, and the result is in Steam there are those who sell 1 separately. Some of them sell all 123, some of them sell 23, but, they don’t sell 3 alone. How do I get back to steam? Not to mention the price is very expensive.

Nice stuff! Now we need contracts be cross-platform as well!

This is good for all. But I am on Epic, only for Hitman because of the launch of H3. Seeing this, I initially thought it might be cool to play everything on Steam then and finally delete Epic. Would even buy a cheap WOA on sale. But then I remembered that all my DLC are on Epic now. It’s too expensive, and I will be missing ingame stuff.

This is good but the fact that my Disruptor DLC is forever stuck on my Xbox account sucks.

I know that DLCs for any game can’t be carried over to different platform store but it still sucks.

At least you have it.
There are people including me who stuck at 99% progression because of being a little bit slow with buying this DLC.
I hope it’s not forever and IOI will find a solution, but at the moment it sucks
