Cross-Progression is coming to HITMAN WOA February 3rd

Which is strange because this benefit was given to Google Stadia players, if I recall.

And this definitely was a benefit of the Steam → Epic transfer. DLC’s and game licenses from Hitman 2 on Steam transferred to Epic pretty well, albeit one-time. I’m fairly certain Steam has something similar in their API to do with unlocking Depots when you do certain things in-game (Payday 2 does this for it’s hidden “Offshore Payday” secret ending cutscene).

I’m pretty sure it isn’t available here because this is a more universal system, and the console manufacturers might have a problem with DLC’s being transferred (Sony in particular…)

Still a bit unpleasant for the consumer who was forced to switch from preffered store or platform just to be able to play the game and then rebuy it on “usual” place. Double spending.
Of course it’s a perfect business model for a studio

Unfortunately, that’s how change has to happen sometimes. I don’t agree with how many Exclusive games there were, that just bit Epic on the arse way too much (and they’ve admitted as such), but the idea of them isn’t inherently bad, or even unexpected.

I’m a pretty nerdy guy. Back in 2021, I was very used to going from launcher to launcher to make things work on Linux because of Proton/ Wine via Lutris and Heroic. Going from Steam to Epic doesn’t even register as an inconvenience to me (Hell, Lutris eventually standardised EGS’s install script!)

I think the problem is more that people’s standards for inconvenience is set way too high. I don’t think having more than one storefront or launcher is an inconvenience, it’s something that needed to happen sooner or later to allow for more of a competitive market. Don’t get me wrong, it certainly doesn’t help that the EGS launcher was not the fastest thing in the world back in 2021-22. But again, you can mostly avoid it by…using a desktop shortcut to the game. In fact, EGS is set to run silently when you do that, avoiding all the slowness of its browser based elements.

Maybe there’s something wrong with my presentation. What I want to show is that on PC, ioi lets EGS monopolize H3. If it weren’t for this, most people, including me, wouldn’t choose to buy H3 at EGS in the first year. And indeed, I didn’t buy it on the premise that I could enjoy it, just because I was busy with other things at that time but I couldn’t wait to have it:sob:.And before that, the reason why I didn’t choose to buy it again on Steam was that the progress on EGS will not be transferred back. But now it can.But now you can’t buy H3 separately on Steam, even though I already have H1 and H2. I still need to buy WOA completely again.Buying again may seem redundant, though, and the EGS aren’t actually that bad.But I don’t like to play games on a platform with few social attributes and incomplete functions like EGS.It’s also about some online mode (such as Ghost Mode, which has been removed from H3. Its mod can only run on the Steam version. And there will be a coop mode coming out in the future, which may not be so comfortable playing with other players on EGS).So I chose to go back to Steam.I say this just to complain about the troubles caused by leaving Steam when it on sell, that’s all.:anxious_face_with_sweat:

Please use line breaks. That is a hell of a wall of text.

I literally gave examples of how that’s not true. The Microsoft store had it too, and so did the consoles.

Ah, so it was impulse purchase! Cool.

…okay fair enough, that makes sense. I can imagine that being very aggravating. I was also annoyed at the lack of cross-progression by the way, and I have no use for it! It’s just such an obvious thing to have!

Ghost Mode was removed from H2 because it was not popular, had very few updates, and it never left Beta. I think Epic had very little to do with their decision.

The mod for Ghost Mode only works on Steam because the patcher for it was made for the steam version in mind. There’s basically nothing stopping it from working via Epic – the game still contains the necessary files for it to work, it just doesn’t because the mod author never added support for the binary or for EOS, and no investigation was done to add it.

And there will be a coop mode coming out in the future, which may not be so comfortable playing with other players on EGS

What do you mean by comfortable? Far as I can tell, if they do cross-platform matchmaking, and considering the recent news, that seems increasingly likely, there won’t be a difference? I’m a little confused by the wording.

This is giving off very mixed signals.

I’m possessed of reasonable certainty social features will be added this year. EGS’s featureset has grown quite a bit these past six months mostly because Epic have put more devs onto it. Gifting is a thing, pre-loading now works, and chats have returned, which has more obvious ties to social features.

Also, have you seen the steam community forums? I know Valve are cracking down on the awards abuse now, but still, the clown award was a meme for a reason. I’ve largely ignored the social side of Steam because it’s just toxicity all the way down, and I use discord to chat with anyone I know on Steam anyway.

…right. A lot of the issues presented seem self-inflicted.

Anyway, I’m at least glad that the cross-progression system will cater to you now =) Enjoy the sun on the other side! I truly hope you enjoy the game, and I’m just sorry that you couldn’t play it any earlier.

I just know I have more incentive getting HITMAN on the switch now because of the Cross Prog. Don’t have time to play console during this period of my time. So freelancer on switch 2 while at my partners is an ideal thing for me. The trade off can’t kill Conor McGregor on the go.

Oh yeah, if you want it on handheld, then that tracks. I completely understand paying for the game again for that convenience, especially if you’re AFK from your main device for longer periods of time. This is precisely the thing cross-progression is meant to aid in!

And again, why it’s been so maddening that IOI have dragged their heels through the mud on this topic for so long.

I dare say that’s not a downside.

Cross-progression is a fantastic feature.
However, I never anticipated progression from HITMAN 2 to HITMAN 3 being discontinued.
I deliberately avoided using progression to play HITMAN 3 from scratch, but now I’m forced to choose between progressing and obtaining the Aluminum Travel Briefcase, or abandoning progression and keeping the Disruptor’s MMA Suit.
Progression carryover was always possible, so I could have obtained the Aluminum Briefcase if I’d wanted to. However, this became impossible after the Connor incident.
Due to the Elusive Target mechanics, performing a carryover resets all five years of history to an unplayed state.
This means it’s now certain that either the Aluminum Briefcase or the Disruptor’s MMA Suit will remain unobtainable.
Both are currently unavailable items, making collecting them even harder.
If only IOI would implement progression items or re-release a redesigned Disruptor model without Connor…
Unfortunately, it’s clear IOI still has no interest in the item collection aspect of gameplay.
I won’t get answers about these issues in the next two weeks.

Indeed, with progress carryover from HITMAN 2 ending on February 3rd, the means to obtain ICA Coins, the Aluminum Briefcase, and the Black Winter Suit will finally disappear.
Ten years have passed since HITMAN 1’s release, and five years since HITMAN 3.
I believe the ICA Coin’s exclusivity has served its purpose well enough, and it’s about time existing users gained access to it.
For example, a challenge like “Clear a total of 25 Elusive Targets” starting in the sixth year seems reasonable.
Even without that, there was never a special reason to restrict the Aluminum Briefcase and Black Winter Suit to carryover only.
New ways to obtain these two items should be added.
These could also be made into challenge rewards, such as “Clear a total of 20 Elusive Targets” or “Clear a total of 10 Elusive Targets using Silent Assassin.”
Even the Solstice Suit made a comeback.
It’s about time they considered this.

Really great news!!

I’m assuming once the cross play goes live, they’ll be a prompt in-game message once we load the game up very similar to what @BlossomFox posted with the Hitman 2 crossover?

Enacting ethically Digital Violence on shitty people is always an upside.

Not if that person was being actively paid to be killed (in-game that is, Conor isn’t Taheiji Koyama, and nowhere near as honorable later in life).

Okay, since IO finally starts doing the bare minimum, i have another crazy idea:

make your singleplayer game fully playable offline

Can’t wait for them to use the upcoming co-op mode as an excuse for not making the game playable offline.

Glad that IO announced this change, for some time I been wanting to switch back from EGS to Steam again. Around a week ago, I asked if anything changed from the Steam to EGS carryover, and here we are.

I own H16 and H2 on Steam, I have no idea witch edition I need to buy in that cluster of unravelled yarn IO released on Steam.

I would say Deluxe will do the job.
Personally I would’ve bought, and did back in the days exactly this.
On both stores

I can’t see why they can’t do this now.

The Cross-progression seems to be made in a way, where say, if you have a Steam account linked, then you will have a Steam progression folder on their servers, but then you also have a PlayStation account linked with a PlayStation progression folder on their servers.

But once you log in to a platform and chooses that platform for cross-progression, I see it as they just copy that platforms progression folder over into a new cross-progression folder, which you can then use to connect to, by enabling cross-progression on the other platforms.

This is also why they say that you revert back to your previous platform progression, when you disable the cross-progression.

Then in theory they should be able to allow you to “download” your progression folder and connect to that instead, but since this would be a local instance, you only have that platform available for it, and if you want to play online again, then you’ll have to connect to the server progression folder, meaning you won’t have the same unlocks etc. that you might have unlocked offline. Because we all know that if you give people access to “offline” files, then they will crack them open and do all sorts of stuff with them, like unlock everything etc.

I don’t see full offline happening any time soon. Maybe with the end of support whenever that comes. Though, honestly, cross progression happening is great but actually a surprise too. So who knows. I have never really known of a game like Hitman where they supported it for so many years. Seeing it grow from 2016 to today is really great as a long time fan of the series.

Yeah, I assume that would work too (if the theory is correct that a message gets pinged out every launch to add the suit to the inventory).

Yeah it seems like it’s my only real option. There is no simple “upgrade”, I can’t just buy an upgrade that gives me access to H3. I have to buy the whole experience again at 70 EUR, or the discounted delux editon for 44 eur. I find it be a steep price to pay for just H3, when you already own H16 and H2 and their DLC content.

Not sure I find the price worth it, just to play on steam.
