If anyone’s interested in a video review for the game (from GmanLives)

Also goddamn, look at all those 10s :eyes:

I’ve not played very much but quite like it so far. It’s different from what I expected in that there’s not much emphasis on stealth and there seem to be no non-lethal weapons at all but that’s okay for me. It’s kinda refreshing that you don’t feel penalized for going lethal as in other games (less XP points in Human Revolution or the Chaos system in Dishonored). I’m now at the part of the game where I can choose the district and time of day I want to explore and am looking forward to see how actions in one will affect the others.

Luckily I also experienced no technical issues aside from a single crash. It seems like a lot of people are experiencing stuttering and regular crashes.

look at it like this, if you killed (i think) over 20% of the peeps on a level like a rabid dog, the next level gave you more people to kill. your playstyle is essentially rewarded, no?

even so, the chaos system is a great mechanic that makes thematic sense for a game focused around the abuse of power. you abuse your powers and the world goes to shit… just like real life!

also: i’m jealous. i really want to play dl.

Well games are made for players to have fun and if you penalize them for for a certain play style, then you’re risking people not bothering to play your games. That’s why I didn’t bother with Dishonored 2 and Prey. Those games have some fun mechanics but if you use them, you get a bad ending…

Imagine Dark Messiah not being allowed to have fun with it’s game mechanics because of fear of locking yourself into a bad end.

pathologic says hi

i’d like to think that some games can have something meaningful to say through their mechanics, even if that means making players uncomfortable. i wish more games would.

i dunno, i just find it funny that people feel punished by the darker ending; like they’re annoyed they didn’t get a pat on the head… for lopping everyone else’s off. :joy:

dishonored’s world reacts to their playstyle and reflects it back at them. i think that’s brilliant.

it provides players an opportunity to think about what games as a whole ask you to do and what they reward you for. unlike bioshock and hotline miami (one of my favourite games of all time btw), it gives players a choice in the matter rather than making them reflect on actions they had no control over.

anyway, shame you didn’t play d2. they refined the chaos system in quite a clever way, plus you missed out on two of the best bits of level design arguably ever!

It’s not that I wish to be congratulated or anything, it’s just I don’t like the game not agreeing with my play style even though I check marked everything the game wanted me to do from start to finish.

I think players should be punished for rushing through the game and ignoring side missions and stuff like that and not for coming up with fun way to completing everything the game has to offer :stuck_out_tongue:

Noclip put out a short piece on Deathloop’s design.

And, a bit off-topic, an excellent longer documentary on the design of Prey they published last week.

good game but I regret paying full price. it doesnt feel like theres enough content there to justify it although others might get more out of it than I have. the best thing it did for me was make me want to replay dishonored :woman_shrugging::woman_shrugging:

really enjoyed it for the two or three days before I finished it, barely touched since. there’s really just not that much to do as far as target killing opportunities go which should really be like, the backbone of the game. definitely worth on sale I think but for £60 i didnt get a massive amount of value from it.

it has been a while, I lost interest in hitman a while ago and rather than stay here and shit on it daily I found it more productive to just do other things with my time lol. moving back to uni on sunday with my quality of life improved immensely from what it was at the start of summer :grin:

doing a maths and physics joint honours which I’m learning is the hardest parts of both subjects, but with probably half the recognition of a single honours in either :woman_facepalming: in too deep to change though so sticking with it

oh yeah. deathloop. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: shame about the lack of content. i can’t get it (no ps5) so it’ll probably be on sale by the time i can anyway.

Speaking of sales, it’s already at 34% off :flushed:

Usually that’s not an amazing sign

Still probably won’t buy it until an even bigger sale, based on reviews :stuck_out_tongue:
