Elusive Target #34: THE FIXER (Year 6: 27 March - 5 April 2026)

I forgot i was looking at january 2025 :sob:

but honestly this target isnt that hard for me as i just spawn in the school and tranq the courier as soon as he arrives in the school then go get xander

So glad someone else is saying this I feel like a broken record whenever I’m saying it :sob:

Phew. Didn’t fail. I always make myself real paranoid about subduing the courier because the game could glitch out and the courier isn’t marked as having diamonds, even though he does.

Might just be PTSD as this is the only ET I’ve ever failed (back in H1). Though that fail wasn’t because of the courier/auto-fails. I got gunned down because, at the time, I was still a careless casual.

Got him. Had to restart a couple of times because I missed the meeting with the courier, which I could have sworn only happens if you get within range, like inside the cafe, but I guess not. I tried to go pure accident with this one, meaning the HPP becomes even more strict than usual. Fortunately I have a lot of practice making my way around Marrakesh while observing it, especially the area where the target is found.

I followed the courier until he got the diamonds, then dropped the sedative poison gum in front of him and waited for him to pass out - having a slight panic attack just like last year when that moment came, just in case I might have missed something and was about to blow the whole thing. Got the diamonds, snuck my way into the embassy parking garage, made my way around the outer edge, and having swiped the keycard from the security chief near the cafe earlier, let myself in.

Worked my way up to the top floor janitor room where a spare uniform is found, let myself into the room across from the top floor bathroom and waited for Strandberg to approach, the target following him. I left a coin in front of the door I knew he would he’d head toward once he stepped into the room so that the target would stop moving once Strandberg did, and once he did so I stuck him with an emetic syringe. Went and hid in the bathroom closet and waited for the target to enter, then drowned him in it. Threw another coin to draw an NPC in to discover the body while I hid in the closet again, and once a security guard had bagged the body and… left it in the bathroom (???), exited, retraced my steps to reclaim my suit, further retraced my steps to exit the embassy, and kept retracing all the way back to the entrance of the map which now became my exit.

Silent Assassin, 5 stars, no direct KOs, accident kill, HPP followed. Flawless.

Lost SA because I accidentally knocked out the target instead of Strandberg and he didn’t like that at all. But got it done. Still not really fun, since it just takes forever, but if I’d brought a lethal syringe it would have been an easy Silent Assassin. This is just one of those missions where I don’t want to restart after half an hour and do the lame shit all over again just to get five stars.

Diamonds obtained, Fixer dead. Method unimportant and Silent Assassin not attempted.

Longest way of saying ā€œmehā€ I’ve ever read. :winking_face_with_tongue:

No, I enjoyed the mission, I just didn’t bother with Silent Assassin (as I never do) so the method wouldn’t be of interest to anyone else.

No; I’m saying it’s ā€œmehā€ with that description.

I actually enjoyed this ET. I just wish something else happened after the courier gets the diamonds. Maybe he brings them back to the fixer or the fixer comes to meet him? It’s odd that he just lingers at the school forever.

Anyway got it done by killing the courier in the school upstairs, grabbing the diamonds, and leaving before anyone noticed his dead body. Then I went to the consulate and got the fixer in the ambassadors office. Same thing. Left before he was found.

I do have to wonder, given how many people seemed to have a problem with the forced waiting in the Harbinger and Bruce Lee elusive targets, where the complaints are about being forced to follow the courier around for almost ten minutes here…

Well, the thing with that is that the courier’s loop is not as extensive as the wait for the Infiltrator and the Harbinger, especially if you stay far enough back from him that he doesn’t repeat it by trying to lose you. The issue is more about the instafail for getting it wrong than the time it takes.

Also, you have to actively follow the courier in order to get it done. In the other two, in order for certain tasks to be completed, you have to just wait for them to unfold, and you can either deal with other things in that time or not. Either way, waiting for a certain period is required. With the courier in this mission, yes the wait is also required, but you have to stay actively engaged with it. You’re more concerned about not missing the vital moment when you know he’s got the diamonds than with how long it’s taking him to get them.

Disagree. Waiting is waiting whether we’re actively following someone or picking our nose. This Elusive Target is not speed-runner friendly, at a minimum (which I’m not one, but still). I’m just surprised, even if your logic is 100% on point, that there isn’t more complaining about it.

I fail to see the problem. :man_shrugging: (:winking_face_with_tongue:)

As I wrote a few days ago in this thread: It is not fun, because it takes forever.

And I would argue that in this case it is even worse then with something like Bruce Lee or Milla Jovovich, because you can’t really do anything, while waiting. With Lee, you can always eliminate the targets, with Milla, you can eliminate her, or get rid of the women she infects later. But here, you just have to wait around, before you can make a move.

I mean, they try out different things, as they should do. But that doesn’t necessarily means, that those things always work out for the better. This one for example just isn’t good in my opinion. It is okay, when you play it for the first time, just because it is new, but after that, it is plain boring.

They should put in in the Arcade and add a new starting point after X minutes, when the deal is done and you can do stuff. But even then there’s not much to it.

This one isn’t in the Arcade, so it can’t be replayed easily. Maybe people aren’t complaining much because they only play it once per year.

He’ll collect the diamonds and go to the school even if you don’t follow him.

But you don’t necessarily know when or which path to the school he’ll take, although one path is most likely. It’s best to follow him to be sure.

Its better than what IO originally planned.

There’s unused Diana dialogue and unused fail conditions that reveal originally after collecting the diamonds he would eventually start to head somewhere to leave the map. And you had to get the diamonds before he left, otherwise mission fail.

I’d actually be okay with this as well. I would have wanted it explained in the briefing, but reasonable time constraints make the game more challenging. I wouldn’t want them all the time, but variety is the spice of life and I enjoy levels like Kirov Park and Motorcade Intervention etc.

I wouldn’t mind it, but I think for an ET and especially this one, a time limit of that sort wouldn’t be a good fit. When you first play this, you don’t know who the courier or where the target is, so there is a big risk, that you won’t find either in time. Adding a timer wouldn’t make sense, so you would just run around searching for the guy and suddenly he would leave the map and you would have failed. For a normal mission, that can be replayed, I’ll take it without hesitation. But for an ET on this map in this scale with this lack of information on anything, it just sounds frustrating as hell.
