That’s a very good point! It could be an old publication, or a posthumous story, or any number of things really. I don’t however know the answer to your question.
He’ll go back to the room, check the laptop and then go to the window to have a smoke.
Huh oh yeah 4 years since I created this account to read all of the juicy leaks for Ambrose Island. Thanks. I was curious if Bruce Lee would fail against anyone else when paralyzed. Now I know. I still haven’t mastered the fighting mechanics and that’s all that’s missing from my mission plan for the ET that I’ve been training for in the arcade…I wish it was a bonus mission.
Hate redoing things from start all over againandagainandagainandagain…
that’s weird because here’s what i did:
- lee got poisoned
- i waited a while to start the next match
- i rearranged the matches so he does his fight last
- when he did his fight i disqualified the other person
- he was completely cured
- i started his next match immediately and he won again Xiao
It seems you just had a bugged run
I mean it’s pretty obvious he’s been resurrected in this mission
That’s in the Bangkok mission since the beginning. Every recording crew member gets distracted from this amplifier. I once used it to lure everyone there, ko them and stash them in the bathroom next to it. Then used the oil canister to kill the five most distant NPCs and making it a contract. Very annoying to play - so I never really published it.
Edit: There are a few of those “attract everyone” distractions. There used to be the fusebox in the room with the security recorder in Mumbai (fixed with an update a few month ago). Then there’s the TV in Colorado:
This one only works up to the point where you distract the prisoner as he never makes it up there.
In Miami you can distract every NPC on the map with this vacuum cleaner at the podium:
You just have to ko the injured Mascot because he can’t make it up there.
Ok, so some things to think about in regards to this ET mission. Going off the assumption for now that it’s a canon ET, where it fits in the timeline and the nature of Bruce Lee’s involvement is difficult to pinpoint, but fun to consider. And the more likely options are really dependent upon Lee’s status as an “agent”. I don’t see a means for this one to fit during the timeline of the Shadow Client/Providence war of the main campaign, so it probably takes place prior to that, or afterward during the Freelancer era, which would put it alongside The Drop and The Disrupter. Which one is more likely, again, depends heavily on the interpretation of who Lee is to this mission.
Diana says that the client - revealed to be an agency in British Intelligence, most likely MI6 due to the international nature of the job - has “reactivated” Agent Lee. This could mean a few things. Lee could be an independent “freelance” operative who functions as a spy and, where necessary, assassin, whose services are on the open market, and BI has selected him for their latest operation. He could have asked ICA to get onboard with their best agent to back him up, hence his comment of hiring a bodyguard.
He could be an agent of ICA, preferred for infiltration missions by BI. This could explain why he knows 47’s true identity, as the two work for the same agency but have simply never crossed paths. Alternatively, if it takes place during the Freelancer era, he could be a former ICA agent who survived the exposure, now works freelance like 47, and that could be why he’s “reactivated”.
Although he could also be option one of a freelance operative who sought out a bodyguard, selected whatever services Diana advertises for their business, and Diana informed him of who she’d be sending to help him, although this would seem to be a bit cavalier and careless with the secrecy of identity aspect that she and 47 are trying to maintain.
The most likely option, in my view, is that Lee is a directly employed agent of BI and works for them exclusively. He contacted either ICA or freelance Diana for backup and in the spirit of cooperation, and the fact that they’re both legends - an urban one in 47’s case - the identity of who would be partnered with him was revealed to Lee.
Much as I prefer the ICA era of things, I personally like to think that this takes place during the Freelancer era, and that Lee’s employment is based on option three, that he directly works on behalf of BI.
With that covered, there’s one other thing to consider that this ET does not provide us an answer for at all: who wins in a fight between 47 and Bruce Lee?
“Could Bruce Lee beat __” is a game that has gone on for decades, and includes the likes of Mohammad Ali, Jackie Chan, probably Connor McGregor, etc. This version of it hinges a lot on what you consider a “fight”. If we are talking about 47 and Lee being set to kill each other, and it doesn’t matter how so long as it’s done, 47 wins full stop. We know this; the guy has taken down super humans superior to himself with ease. If we are talking a one-on-one martial arts fight, and we are considering 47’s genetic enhancements, 47 wins again, albeit this time it is almost solely attributed to the combination of his lifetime of training and his enhanced physique.
Now, if we are talking a fight with only martial arts prowess and nothing else - not killing ability, not physical enhancements, not weapons mastery, etc. - then we’ve got a whole different story on our hands. 47 has been trained in multiple forms of combat and has practiced that training all his life. However, that discipline seems to have been taught into him for his own personal survival and to maintain top physical condition, rather than specifically to dominate an opponent with fighting skills alone. Most of his training is dedicated to killing and avoiding capture.
Bruce Lee, on the other hand, spent most of his life perfecting specific forms of martial arts, and dedicated himself to them constantly. He was known for having certain muscles larger than the norm due to constant usage, and he became a combat prodigy as a result. Assuming an almost direct translation from the real Lee to the one in the game, if it came down to just pure fighting skill, the most generous I can give is 50/50, but more likely it’d be about 60/40, favoring Lee. 47 is the best at killing and evading, but using only specific forms of martial arts, which Lee has studied extensively while 47 has likely only studied enough to do his job, Lee holds the advantage in this one scenario.
Finally got a chance to try the new ET today. But: The game just didn’t start. Nothing. Just a black screen. Restarted the computer. Checked the files. After a new install: It works. And that’s when I realised that I’ve got exactly 47 days left to try this ET. Perfect!
Great ET was a lot of fun. But there shouldn’t be any insta-fails for something you pay and maybe only can play once (not sure if this ever gets a re-run). This should be a proper assignment. Have no idea how I killed the last guy in my run. I used the durian on him and couldn’t find him later anywhere. Just out of nowhere got the message that he died. Anyway: Silent Assassin and Suit only
ETs aren’t canon as stated by the developers multiple times on their streams but if they were canon then how do you explain the still living and eternally young 85 year old Bruce Lee. Besides that Daniel Craig’s James Bond would by proxy through Le Chiffre be confirmed as existing in the same universe and that’s just silly. It’s far easier to imagine it all as alt reality to the true canon overall story.
The same way you’d explain 47 looking like he’s 30 when he’s supposed to be like twice that :x
There have been several mentions of ETs, The Undying being the most notable, mentioned in the game proper, so the status of ETs as canon is questionable, but has never been confirmed one way or the other, at least not for all of them. Most are not canon, but some are either hinted to be, or don’t impact anything one way or another and so can be considered so by default until told otherwise.
Bruce Lee in this mission is not the Bruce Lee who was born and died way back when in our real world, but one born much closer to current times and is implied to have died young and shortly into his film career, but that his death was faked in this case so he could be a spy. His birthdate shown in the mission briefing being the same as the real Bruce Lee is an in-joke for eagle-eyed fans, not the actual birthdate of this clearly still young and non-enhanced version of Lee.
And it has been well-accepted since its release four months ago that the game’s version of LeChiffre is not the same one that appears in the Bond universe, but is in fact the same character appearing in a different, still similar universe where he is killed by 47’s actions rather than Bond’s.
What if “Our client has reactivated Bruce Lee” means that they cloned him? The original Bruce Lee might be 80-something years old or actually have died, while the one we meet is a clone and basically a younger version of him, like the Max Valiant clones.
Possible, although unlikely. Usually when cloning is involved in Hitman, there’s some clear indication of it, since it’s basically the MacGuffin of the series overall.
Jeeesus! What is this shit? I started the mission, went for the master keycard at the beginning. “Of course” I cannot find the master keycard at the usual place in the basement. OK, no problem, I finally manage to get a disguise and get to the floor, where the fights take place. Suddenly Diana starts to talk about another targets, Bruce Lee starts a conversation with somebody, and another pair at a table starts a third conversation. All at the same time and I couldn’t for the life of me hear anything from these at all! Well done! Then another minute pass, and Diana tells me, that Bruce Lee has been poisoned. Oh, goody. How exactly? By talking to somebody? OK, never mind. Let’s find that antidote. Of course I couldn’t find it. Just like I couldn’t find that goddamn master keycard. Another few minutes pass and suddenly Diana informs me, that I failed the mission, because Lee wasn’t able to participate in the next fight. Really, IO Games? REALLY??? Are you this *** stupid? Who the hell designed this crap ET? How the hell could IO release this? And do they really expect to get money for this travesty of a DLC?
Weirdly, Florence Swift does have outlined stats! She’s somewhere around the middle, from what I remember.
47’s stats are right around the middle too, a little bit less than Swift. Of course, his actual skill depends on the player’s :p
As for the Bruce Lee timeline thing, there’s a bit of unsubtitled dialogue near the fight where two spectators have an almost fourth-wall-breaking conversation. One of them says that ‘Lee Siu-Loong’ reminds him of someone, the other says she “thought that guy retired or something”, and the first one says “obviously I don’t think it’s really him, I’m not that drunk. Maybe a distant relative or something?”
Maybe that should be taken as a hint, maybe it’s just a cheeky bit of dialogue from the devs. I’ve said my bit on ET canonicity before, I think :]
That’s probably just intended as a reference to Enter the Dragon, since the crime boss in the movie also fights with some kind of metal claw. I kinda wish IOI took it further and had Lee fight the boss on the upper floor around the antiques, like it happens in the movie.
Thank you lore master for your wisdom. You know better than the devs after all. I should never have questioned your authority but seriously in-joke? Yeah haha Bruce Lee is old. Very funny. It’s just an excerpt from his wikipedia arcticle because there is no canonical logic when designing ETs and it’s obvious everytime you try to logically deduce how they connect to everything else and as always you speak very authoritatively what is canon and what is not. Like how you confidently state that Bruce Lee faked his death when there is no evidence for that.
Genetic engineering?
So long as we’ve got that clear.
Also, as @Minnow mentioned above, there’s dialogue between two NPCs watching the tournament who believe they recognize Lee, but don’t think it can be. Couple that with the main target’s reaction when he realizes who it is, and is surprised. Taking this into account, and the fact that this is supposed to be Bruce Lee, albeit an alternate version of him, and the implication - a key factor in determining a great deal of what is added to the lore in WoA - is that he is publicly considered dead, and he’s not really.
FWIW I took the leader’s reaction as something along the lines of “It’s you! You’ve tried to thwart my evil plans before! You’ll never leave her alive!” while also being, on a meta level, a nod to the fact that it literally can’t be Bruce Lee.
A bit like that “multiverse theory” conversation in Paris that’s just a silly conversation by two bodyguards in-world, but on a meta level is the writers saying “hehe, there really isn’t any one ‘real’ canon kill, is there?”
Without really taking any side here, it’s worth noting they very specifically never say they think Bruce Lee is dead in-universe; the most they say is “retired, or something”. I suspect the writers didn’t go into it sweating that detail too much. As a writer myself, I absolutely cannot blame them for that. Focus on it too much and the rest of the story gets caught up in tangled fluff :p
