Freelancer - Closed Technical Test

Those playing the showdowns on Dartmoor: is there any suspects/targets on the upper floors

I only got ones in the garden and graveyard. Might be random though.

There can be suspects on the top floor. I had that happen.

Yeah it seems that theres one version of the showdown and the targets are picked from that pool of ten or so (which is a big amount of targets with pretty in depth routes and interesting things they do tbf). Which is a shame because I think the verticality of Dartmoor is more interesting, but hey thats what updates are for
Edit: nvm im big poopoo dumb dumb there are suspects on higher floors thanks @bgyorok

Watching some gameplay clips and livestreams (since I didn’t get access to the test :sob:), Freelancer looks pretty good so far!

My only real issue with it is the non-Syndicate Leader missions (The missions before those showdown thingies). it kinda just feels like filler content before getting to the fun main event.

Maybe they should adjust the routines or appearances of the syndicate members or something to make them feel unique and not just a random contract we can replicate in contracts mode,

Like one territory contract I saw was just Jason Portman and the Director from Hokkaido, as if we couldn’t just recreate that in contracts mode :smiling_face_with_tear:

Other than that, I can’t wait to play in January!

Yea tho i also think that that in itself could be fun, randomly generated contracts mode, however i feel like there should be three different kinds of mission pre-showdown depending on what organization you chose. One would be the contracts mode roulette currently in the game, lets call them Sleeper Agent orgs. Another would be procedurally generated NPCs with of course RNG routes - lets call them The Erratic orgs. - and another would be Showdown-style new NPCs placed onto a map type ones - let’s call them the Opaque orgs. So every syndicate you select will have Opaque, Eratic or Sleeper Agent in the description and with that you can choose what kind of NPCs you want to see. That way everyone’s happy and the playstyle of the game will be truly infinite. Thats not gonna happen by January tho, just throwing that out as a content update suggestion. I would hope and want this game mode to have more updates than freaking Ghost Mode at least lol
Edit: another cool thing is if they gave you the seeds of each campaign you do after you finish or fail it to play without complications or rewards at any time

Randomized contracts in certain maps would probably be fun but in some missions, such as Mendoza, there are MANY npcs that are completely stationary or just have a really awful routine, so having them as targets for a contract would be a burden to do.

That’s why I hoping they’ll change some of the selected targets behaviours/routines.

I love your idea btw, it just probably won’t happen (at least at launch) considering the upcoming deadline😅

So I failed a campaign. And lost Sieker, Kalmer and lethal poison.

Damn, that was brutal.

As IOI said themself, in the article :

“Full transparency, we won’t be making major gameplay changes. We’re looking primarily at economy/ XP balancing, enjoyment and testing our technical infrastructure.”

So, I don’t expect change born from the CTT.

On the other hand, as they also said, more surprises will be revealed…

aw dang, well one can hope :crossed_fingers:

Oh yea definitely, I think thats why they arent as restrictive with Silent Assassin is partially because of this stuff. The technical test isnt for feedback about the mode but about the economy/progression balance so I dont expect any of this to be implemented unless they do content updates for Freelancer and I hope they do because the potential of the mode is vast and I think it could still be fun when i play it
I also think removal of all the targets as well as some story NPCs will be a good idea to do in the future. Not as many as reworking the map but for example, get rid of the Detective, Zachary and Alexa. Silvio and Franny. Then make NPCs like the therapist and undertaker not talk in these modes. Like I said, not for the full release but just suggestions because I already saw centerstrain getting confused by the mission story elements lol
Edit: and the question of “well those story elements add character to the levels, what should they be replaced by?” Ive got a killer idea: just replace the NPCs with a suspect. So now a suspect has Alexa’s route on the top floor, and another has her bottom floor route. Another NPC has the PI’s route. One NPC has Yuki’s route and meets with another suspect in the garden (the director and maybe even Soders should stay, but idk for sure you might have to replace him with someone else and maybe remove that dialogue). Itd be a great way to have its cake and eat it too

Do you know how to find evidence and crack safes?

There are tablets laying around near the safe. Scan them with your camera.

Played for about two hours and it was pretty fun! I do miss having all of my unlocked suits to choose from, though I can use the trinity pack suits in the test despite not owning them so I guess it evens out.

Only one real issue came up for me while playing: the camera used to track potential suspects seemed to disappear from my inventory after a while. Is it possible to drop it? If so, I might’ve done that accidentally. I was really taking my time and picking up basically everything I came across too, so I’m not sure if that might’ve influenced it.

Damn. I was scanning the post its in the surveillance room in Miami.

I love that the camera is now an active gameplay item and not just for photo mode.

Me too. I suggested when Hitman 3 came out that the camera could be adapted for picking up Intel and it seems like that they listened.

You literally posted your code publicly yesterday. Despite your effort to delete it (and my effort to hide that image in the post history) someone must have grabbed that one before you redeemd it.

Is the camera still an inventory item, or is there now a shortcut to access it ?

Because the ergonomy / access of the camera is not that great. Even more if we have now to use it frequently.

Yeah they must have, I’m not pissed off, your pissed off.
Jokeing ofc, trying to lighten my mood (I’m gonna need it till January)]

Does anyone have a spare code?
