Freelancer Crashes Right Before Safehouse Loads

I’ve been having a really frustrating issue with Hitman: World of Assassination (through Epic Games) when trying to play Freelancer mode — the game keeps crashing at the same point every time.

Here’s what happens:
• After launching Freelancer, if I press Space to skip the intro scene, the game crashes immediately.
• If I let the scene play out, it crashes a few seconds later — right after Diana finishes talking, and just before I gain control of 47 in the safehouse.
• The crash happens every single time, no matter what I try.

Important notes:
• This started happening recently — it used to work fine, even with mods installed.
• I tried running without any mods at all, but the crash still happens.
• I verified the game files via Epic Games — no issues found.

I’m honestly getting really frustrated at this point. Has anyone else run into this issue — especially with Freelancer crashing right before the safehouse loads? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  1. You don’t mean the “Play” button when choosing Freelancer mode, but the cutscene after clicking on “Play”, yes?
    (your title implies before the “Play” button, but your “if I press Space to skip” says the cutscene)
  2. You have performed “Verify Files” in Epic library, but that did not solve?
  3. Haven’t had this problem, but might be that you had above the inventory capacity limit the last time you successfully returned to the Safehouse? If so, try this suggestion from Diana 47
