Freelancer - General Discussion

Every Syndicate Leader (Target), yes. That’s been my experience so far.

So they could have

  1. A hat
  2. Glasses
  3. Earrings
  4. Necklace
  5. Tattoo
    ?

If we crack the code of how the suspects’ parameters are set, it should then be straightford to get it right every time.

I’m going to look out for this case of ‘5 attributes’. Fascinating…

I’ve seen the coin at a supplier’s (5,000M I think). Couldn’t afford it at the time.

They will have exactly what Diana says (and possibly more but isn’t integral to the mission).

In my case, it was:

Black Hair
Hat
Glasses
Necklace

The target in my case must have been pulled from the NPC pool that fit the descriptions of the mission, but this NPC also happens to have tattoos as well.

It will be fine if you play as intended and follow the clues. But you cannot guess the target based on What Diana hasn’t described as the NPCs can have these extras too.

Are you sure it isn’t the Collector’s Coin? That’s sold at 5,000.

Now you say it, it must have been that.

As someone who hasn’t gotten far with freelancer yet…. WHAT

I wasn’t sure what to do here. I had one main suspect with 2 of the tells that drank from a glass. I used a sedative poison on the glass, but I also have the ‘No Bodies Found’ objective… So I had to break the glass he would’ve drank from.

I guess this would be an example of conflicting objectives… But I suppose it’s not impossible to sedate them out of anyone’s view if you can get them isolated. :face_exhaling: AND if I had a sedative syringe or kalmer (neither of which do I have yet).

Okay, I think some of the way alerted guards work is more intense here. I knocked out a courier who saw me, fled a few rooms away, then after a guard found him KO’d, immediately entered Combat mode once he woke up and “followed me” to my room 2 rooms away…

(And then I died because I panicked and couldn’t throw a weapon at his face oof)
But that was weird! Why didn’t he go into Hunted mode, why did he somehow know I was in that other room?

also got a hilarious “Excellent 47! If you feel the need to redecorate, now is the time to do so” after I woke up from injuries. Jeez Diana

Yeah this is unplayable. You lose a campaign, have barely any funds, and the missions are so random all your bonus objectives require gear you don’t have and can’t afford to buy and it spawns you in an instant-trespassing start in the New York Bank. It’s punitive for no reason.

Don’t know if anyone else has mentioned it elsewhere, but it seems as though any prestige objectives with “collateral” conditions (killing a target and an additional person with a certain method) can be extremely buggy and borderline nonfunctional.

Its literally a game of chance whether the kill you setup will actually register under the condition, even if you set it up manually and perfectly knockout and lineup NPCs for the objective.

I was in the midst of drowning the target in a showdown. I was careful to check my map, had his bodyguard (“assassin”) KO’d, and moved out of the doorway. Nobody should’ve seen me, but somehow I was. I had the notification “Lookout nearby” come up, and the next thing I know I’m in combat. So there went 2 other objectives down the sh_tter – just like the target. So I don’t know if the lookouts have Haven Island Level Eagle Eyes, or if I was a victim of NPC Instinct/'Wall Hacks". I don’t know how close I came to dying, but I’m certain I was 1 or 2 more bullets away.

God! I ended up garroting the only lookout I was aware of in the nearby area. The best 50 :merces: I’ve ever spent. :smirk:

They are buggy again. Sometimes they don’t go orange when alerted. Some choose to have X-Ray vision again. I had 2 guards in Hokkaido shoot through walls at me like I’m Morpheus sprinting to the chopper. Assassins and lookouts get alerted through walls. And they seem to get/retain knowledge they shouldn’t have.

It’s far from unplayable. Don’t prioritise the side objectives (unless in hardcore mode). Think of it like real life - all the money in the world isn’t worth your life. I’ve only bought a couple of things ever in my campaigns. All I use is the Sieker, a suppressed weapon and a lockpick. That 99% gets everything I need in any mission. The spawns can be annoying sometimes but they’re not impossible to get out of.

Although I did spawn the morgue on Hokkaido with the target and a safe which meant there were about 7/8 bodyguards static. You get seen as soon as you get up. That needs changing lol

I am having the same problem, so I am going this way.
Choose playable and possible-finish-able campaigns. This is best for a start:

Not matter name, but objectives. The hard one is with dart-guns because freelancer tools will “evaporate” everytime a campaign is aborted. But with zero M’s and no tools, one can do that many times until gets objectives which are possible. Dont forget fiber wire is also stethoscope at med-room.
Pick a campaign with one target, if it is possible. Try to finish.

Took my ornate shotgun to Berlin for a challenge - spawned without it. The game just glitched it out of existence, and now I’m without it.

Time for bed.

So, are the descriptions of the target supposed to be 100% accurate?
I have now had 2 targets run away (And successfully killed) that I already marked as not being the target because neither had earrings.

Edit: The guy I just killed was NOT the target. Oops.
But pretty sure the first one I was talking about didn’t fit the description. I will never know for sure.
Although… there are people that have just ONE earring, so that might have been the case.

BTW… Finding this mode REALLY hard. I think I’ve failed more missions than I have been successful.
Still enjoying it though. The weapon specific challenges are so much more manageable with silenced weapons. :smirk:

FYI: you can accidentally feed your Collector’s Coin into a vending machine.

Well I just finished up my first campaign in Freelancer, here are my thoughts. I’m proud to say that so far I’m #TeamNoRestarts in the mode. I’m also over 1.5% done with the GOAT challenge. I think the longest challenge to get will be the one for getting 500 leader kills which requires 125 campaigns to unlock.

Overall, the mode is very enjoyable, if a bit rough around the edges. I think the safehouse is a fantastic addition to the game, and I think it was well worth the wait. The environment of the safehouse is amazing, and I love the lighting and all the little interactions you can do to help it feel more lived in. There were some odd thing in the place however. I already mentioned I could access the practice area from the very beginning, but also I was able to go in the bedroom once I unlocked the outside cause the one door on the balcony was unlocked.

One thing I love is how the mode encourages different playstyles. For example, one objective was to flash a guard so I used the Magnesium Pouch for the first time ever. It also really challenged my map knowledge with both items shuffled around and new NPCs and routes on maps. However, playing Freelancer did make me realize just how insanely good the Sieker was, I’ve always preferred the fart briefcase.

I really like the addition of robbing the vault to gain a bunch of easy Merces in New York. I wish the other locations had something similar to always consistently find Merces (maybe they do, I just haven’t explored enough yet). The only thing I’ve found were the safes in Marrakesh. The one in Zaydan’s office has a letterbomb in it, while the one in Strandburg’s office has a Guru’s Emetic Grenade in it. Neither seems really worth the effort to obtain since you can’t take them back to the safehouse. Funnily enough, I was able to grab them without the safe combinations. One complaint I had from watching the CTT was none of the Deluxe/7DS items were in the safehouse, so at least they got a bit of representation in the mode.

I do wish some of the items found in chests were able to be brought back to the safehouse like Lil’ Flashy, Napoleon Blownaparte, and the Emetic Gas Grenade (we can store the Chloroform flask but not the emetic version). I also wish there was some scaling so larger maps have more chests to find. From my experience every map had roughly 4 chests regardless of size, making it a lot harder to find them on Mumbai than on New York (though maybe I wasn’t being thorough enough). I know in the CTT there was a rare chance to find actual guns in the chests, but the most I’ve been able to find is tools.

One thing I found weird is that they added a new exit in the garden in Bangkok in Freelancer, but it wasn’t available in the main game (at least not when making a contract, I didn’t take the time to do the main mission). My run almost ended in the second to last mission of the 4th campaign on the Isle of Sgail when a ton of people compromised me, but luckily I was able to slip away and finish the mission. Then came the final showdown on Bangkok, which I guess I got lucky on. Here it is if you want to watch the “immense” challenge (I know, I use instinct too much):

Given what happened with my last playthrough, I think I’ll be making it a priority in finding the lookouts and getting them out of the way by any means necessary (short of killing them if at all possible)!

I’ll try to set up what I think happened this last time in the normal mission (Whittleton Creek). Sorry to gripe/piss & moan about this - but there’s no way I should’ve been spotted!

Edit: Maybe it was someone that came through the gate from the Wilson’s party that caught me through the window. Damn windows in Whittleton Creek! That’s the 2nd time I’ve been royally screwed over - just from someone seeing through a window. What?! People in WC are exhibitionists that don’t give a flying F if their neighbors see them curling one out?

Howdy… (Frrrrttt) Mrs. West. How’s it… (Frrrrrt-t-t-t) going? :tipping_hand_man: :poop:

Alright, well that’s 2 more total failures today…

Another one in New York, where the Target escaped and I had to do the walk of shame to the exit (Thankfully, since I didn’t die, I kept all the weapons I had on me when I left! Tools were still gone though)

And the recent one in Marrakesh, basic Alerted Territory. I could have had a full 7200 :merces: payout, but I got overconfident after killing the target and got nothing.
Thought I could get to a Safe across the map with my Silent Takedown timed challenge… until someone saw me KO someone and I had to book it to the carpark-- but I still struggle getting used to the Toggle Sprint option – if I hadn’t hesitated and walked for a split second, I would have made it through the door.

Overall it’s a thrilling mode that really pushes you to get more and more money, to strengthen your arsenal, to go for that one more risky kill.
Missions can take quite a while though – at least for me. Even just 2 or 3 basic missions can make a full hour disappear, if I’m exploring enough to find all the safes, couriers, and items for the objectives

Also know when you’ve been defeated… don’t lose all your money on your new Stock Market computer that just totally drained the last 3,000 I had left… if only I’d quit 2 minutes earlier…

Well. Apparently the “Silent Assassin No Firearms” Prestige Objective will get failed if you even pick up a gun. Not fire a gun. Pick it up. Which is frankly, bullshit. How else am I supposed to collect weapons, if I don’t pick them up? Fail me if I use it not if I pick it up. :salt: :salt: :salt:
