Freelancer - General Discussion

“Neutralize a lookout” doesn’t seem to pass unless you actually kill them, even though it says in the description about KOing them
I do find Lookouts annoying due to the fact there’s practically no reaction time between them seeing you, and everyone fleeing. Like, there should be an action where the lookout runs off to a radio to call it in, or a distinct animation of a reasonable time before everyone is alerted to run off. Always feels like “oh this guy spotted you, everyone on the other end of the map is immediately escaping and you have no chance of catching up to them” which is rather cheap

You have to hide their bodies in a container of some kind. That’s what neutralizes them. If you just KO them and leave their body, even if it’s in a way that won’t raise alarms if they’re found, they can still be revived, meaning they’re not actually neutralized. Even if they’re tranquilized in a place where no NPCs ever go on their own, the chances of their being found and revived is not zero. Kill them or KO them and hide the bodies, they have to be taken off the map for the remainder of the mission with no possibility of revival.

Yeah I think I fairly comprehensively covered why lookouts aren’t exactly fun, as well as came up with a couple ideas to fix them (including providing some sort of mechanic whereby you can make an attempt to recover, rather than instantly alerting a network and potentially everyone)…

You also have to hide their body, then the KO will count.
But I prefer killing them whenever I can anyway.

Compared to the 90 mastery tier, the 50 tier seemed so much faster :joy::joy:

i know I said this in the OG comment, but I need to reiterate this to IOI, loud and clear:

There are Battle Passes with a better grind than Freelancer Mastery; the latter being a mechanic that is deliberately grindy to get money out of the player by making them impatient, rather than a test of skill.

Slowing people down serves to pad the game time, not to make it feel more rewarding each level up. This is one of the reasons i’ve stopped playing Freelancer as of right now (that and the bugs, Merces economy being out of whack, the inconsistent AI, and the punishment for failure being too overkill).

I’ll get off my soapbox now. I need to sleep.

Just got the last cosmetic for the hallway at level 93

I’m gutted you can’t pick up that Collectors briefcase :smiling_face_with_tear: It would be so cool pick it up, head to the basement and begin storing your Sniper before starting the mission

I finished my first Hardcore campaign today! Two close shaves in the last leg of missions where I narrowly survived a shootout but what a rush! No bugs, my greatest nemesis, I think I’ve found a way around most now.

Timed prestige hide and seek objective not registering: in order to avoid the bug I avoided vehicle exits whenever I could and made sure to hide somewhere at least once after killing the final target.

Collateral kills: pick a map with at least four targets. Normally at least one in four should register.

Now back to normal mode. Time to relax, await that suit unlocks and faze at the most terrific trophy of the bunch

Done! Although there were at least 3 or 4 missions where I had to Alt+F4 either excessively (due to unfair or very difficult circumstances) or once or twice due to the rare occasion I made the stupid mistake of not paying attention to my surroundings. The Showdowns weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be… Part of it is saving the optimal location for last. And more than once did a bathroom come in handy for stashing KO’d (anybodies).

I’ll keep playing obviously. But whether it’ll be on regular or HC… I’m not sure yet. Maybe HC if it gives you more XP. If it’s the same as regular, I might stick with that so there’ll be way less of a headache to get through them.

I’ll count this 1st go as my grind to secure that suit that’s supposed to be an unlock. If I do play HC again, I think I’ll be less prone to Alt-F4’ing. Maybe. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

The moment the chest becomes available is there a limited window to claim the contents or do they remain there forever until I collect them?

My stuff is still in there, and it’s been way over a month since I opened the chest. I think it’s safe to say the contents stay there until you collect them, if you ever decide to do so.

I wish I never picked them up now! Wish I left them in the chest!

For my most recent campaign I chose to wear Agent 17’s Signature Suit, it’s pretty nice. I’ve now reached Mastery 92 and am 20% of the way to completing Top Dog. 180 hours down, 720 to go! (though I think campaigns will go a lot faster once I don’t have to worry about doing objectives)

I wish they would respawn like the other stuff

Same!

Now that everyone is saying they’d remain in the chest if you didn’t pick them up it makes me slightly sad haha :joy:

My instinct just made me pick them up, even though I had them on my Weapon wall haha

I finally completed the collection of freelancer weapons and tools (only missing the one that you will presumably get when you unlock the passage in the shed). Now I will only go on to reach 100 professionalism and I don’t think I will ever play the hardcore mode at least until they plan to lose everything you have regardless of the success of the campaign.
