Freelancer - General Discussion

I had a surprise today. I threw a non-lethal melee which caused a target to fall in the water and it counted for the Melee Weapon Kill objective!

Congratulations!

How much extra Merces/XP do you get after Prestiging 10 times?

Fascinating. I wonder if that’s across the board or if particular conditions have to be met.

Honestly, I always wanted to use a similar method on the Bad Boy ET. When you blow up his car and he goes to take a piss over the cliff, I always wanted to throw a hammer (the client’s nickname) at the back of his head and have him fall off the cliff as a result, but it’s so complicated to get right I’d keep running out of patience and just kick him off.

Actually it ends up being a total of an additional 2,000 Merces on top of the standard amounts.

That reminds me of how I had a drowning kill also count as a melee kill, a few days back.

Yeah, it looks like it’s something like this (please correct me if I’m mistaken):

Prestige Level 1: +500 Merces per Prestige Objective, +1000 XP per mission
Prestige Level 2: +950 Merces per Prestige Objective, +1250 XP per mission
Prestige Level 3: +1350 Merces per Prestige Objective, +1500 XP per mission
Prestige Level 4: +1700 Merces per Prestige Objective, +1750 XP per mission
Prestige Level 5 (and beyond): +2000 Merces per Prestige Objective, +2000 XP per mission

This is because falling into water counts as a “fall” kill, and the most common way to make NPCs fall is to push/pull them, which is considered a melee action, so the game takes a shortcut in logic.

I guess this would also indicate that the game will award ‘melee weapon kill’ for real push kills also.

Any profit out of it?

I wonder why the prestige trophy has the insignia flipped.

The only other instance I know that had it flipped is the coin in the H2 collector’s edition.

Poor quality control and/or nobody gives a fuck about it.

is it normal for assassins to kill you in one shot on hardcore? just failed a campaign on the final showdown and i’m taking this as a divine message to uninstall forever

Yeah it’s how the assassins were designed to be on Hardcore, even on normal they can kill you pretty quickly

thats so funny… like they really have zero concept of balance at all

The normal SA rule of regaining SA after killing an alerted target (who hasn’t alerted anyone else) not applying to Prestige Objectives is pretty damn infuriating.

I had isolated him and went for a subdue and instead it did the shitty side knockout and I lost the damn objective. This needs to be fixed.

Can anyone who’s not using Freelancer Variations go to a showdown on Mumbai and see if Crows Thugs spawn in the Rangan construction site?

I haven’t done anything in my mod to make this happen, and a player says it happens in vanilla version but I just want to confirm it’s the game update that has done this

Shortly after Freelancer’s launch (still first patch) I saw the foreman in this segment of the construction site as well. He was performing the animation and voice lines of when he sees the old foreman’s report.
I should have a recording of it somewhere. If I find some time I might go digging for it.

Been playing Freelancer since almost day 1. Dying on a mission still hurts as bad it did the first time. Especially when it happens on the final showdown. :smiling_face_with_tear:

I hate lookouts.

Same thing ended my first Hardcore run. It was infuriating in H1, they changed it, and now it’s infuriating in Freelancer :weary:
