Damn right 20 characters.
Damn man, you breaking out some SFM animation skills or something? Those cutaways to your psychonauts-esque character was really cool and well animated!
I kind of agree on your points in the video, especially the last point that missions can take way too long for little reward or even demoralizing failure that ends an entire campaign.
Iâm reaching the point where Iâm burning out a but after playing for so long, but I still really enjoy chasing thr objectives and netting Perfect Run bonuses, especially since they give a good chunk of a level in the 70s Iâm at now.
I like Sick Games syndicates since sometimes you get a really satisfying mission where everything lines up perfectly.
Interesting that you bring up Fall Guys, as I was sure that it had an inflated amount of xp requirement throughout its battle pass â or if not, they had a problem last year where it was static, but massive, and progress in rounds was so slow it was easier to repeat Round 1s for time/xp benefit
This was about a year ago, so it could have changed, but I remember a lot of discussions on its subreddit about it.

Iâve been doing this for a while now. â Lili with glasses is basically my avatar and ever-present mood.
Also iâm trapped in SFM hell, may as well make use of it:

As a person who has been playing recently due to the creation tools they added, losing is definitely slower, though it depends on how much you lose by. Losing in round one constantly only nets you about 100xp at most. Round two or more is usually several hundred xp or completing an entire level.

I said this near the start, and I got to that point two months ago. Iâve not really touched Freelancer again outside of recording footage for this video. Itâs just not motivating enough for me right now.
My comment was responding to your statements around 12:20 where you say âthe moment you go loud, your XP gets cut by at least 40%, possibly more, depending on what else you doâ which isnât how the XP system works. I do think there should be more objectives encouraging loud approaches (maybe new Syndicate types?)
I was under the impression the playstyles affected your XP to some extent, rewarding Silent behaviour and discouraging openly loud hits, and then the XP gotten from completing the contract and doing side objectives in missions was added on top of that.
Itâs very possible iâm just seeing things.
There is no Playstyle XP Bonus.
Things like âSilent Takedownâ or âTarget Killedâ or âDoor Unlockedâ or âAccident/Poison/Guard Killâ arenât XP bonuses in this mode. The only thing that counts towards your XP progression are the Freelancer-specific quirks and objectives. (Which are quite meaty and basically award you âChallenge-sized-XPâ per mission. My Profile Level has shot up dramatically since I started Freelancer, way more than it has between the launch of Hitman 3 and nowâŚ
25 per opened crate
75 per opened safe
150 per Courier merces picked up
Then I think itâs a static 1000xp for each normal Objective (I swear it differed in the CTT)
a 2500xp bonus for Prestige Objectives
and a 2500 bonus for a Perfect Run
Showdowns I think give you 1k, 2k, 4k, and 6k?
And Iâm sure I saw Hardcore Mode give you double that for every showdown completedâŚ
Thereâs also the Prestige 1000xp bonus after every mission once youâve unlocked that, that Iâm sure increases every Prestige Level.
Challenges also award you between 2k-4k XP depending on when you complete them, so some missions can come out with a satisfying 18k XP if you also chain it with a Perfect Run.
The lack of the (very tiny) Base Game XP Bonuses was an issue I had with the CTT, and hoped theyâd be added back in, just as a very tiny bonus to the progression, as it did feel show even back then (I had ti finish like 3 missions before getting Mastery 1.)
And honestly they probably should have added them in, if only to slightly help with the 90-100 Mastery grind⌠I hope but Iâm still not sure if I keep playing on and off this year, I could maybe get through my last 25 levels of progressoin by end of DecemberâŚ
Edit: i guess its something you cant keep track of easily when you have the âXP Pop-upâ setting turned off.
I like it because my bird-brain likes shiny numbers going up, knowing when a non-target was in an explosion,
and also it helps me know when my internet/server connection is slow (some base game actions could not register XP for half a minute or more, until it catches up all-at-once)
If IOI adds an explosives-focused syndicate theyâll make me very very happy. Right now thereâs not much aside from the explosive prestige objective and a couple of things in Arms Trafficking
I really enjoyed this video. Well done on making this! I left a bigger comment on YT but to sum up I agree with the concerns raised and really hope that IOI communicate their intentions regarding player feedback! After Mayâs patch, there was a lot of lively debate on here and on Reddit regarding the changes IOI made. I have no idea whether to look forward to it or dread this upcoming August patch depending on what they will change in Freelancer.
The item on your back always goes in the briefcase, for future reference
This picture is from a few days ago.
Itâs hard to tell from this screenshot I took on the Xbox version, but I got stuck inside the pillar near the laser guarded wine in Mendoza. There was absolutely no way to get out of it.
I spent at least a good 2 to 3 minutes trying to get out before I just said âscrew itâ and exited out of the game to try again.
I wouldnât be using that so called âcheatâ if the game worked properly. As in, NOT getting stuck, not getting spotted through walls and floors, and so on. IOI should focus on fixing issues instead of getting rid of âAlt F4 cheatersâ.
I donât even get how IO managed to break so many things like this with Freelancer. I never had issues getting stuck other than in narrow toilet/vomit rooms (like the ones off the server room in Haven) where the target would open the door into the room and you could get stuck behind it. At least there you can restart/reload.
Now IO force you into doing something that the servers use to label you as a cheater - and if they do some bs like eventually giving the mysterious missing coin to players that havenât âcheatedâ, Iâm going to be super pissed.
It took me way longer than it shouldâve to level up to prestige level 2, because I failed 3 campaigns in between, 2 being the final showdowns. And the challenges go up to 10 freaking levels. I have to say, I definitely donât have the motivation to do that.
Even my Top Dog count has barely reached 40 out of 100. God, I really wish they nerfed these challenges. Itâs just insane grind.
Iâm Prestiging so I donât have many weapons. I went into Miami with the F/A Stealth. I got compromised, got to the tech checking out a van in between the winnerâs paddock and the garage where the two engineers are, went to shoot the NPC, shot the van with my fully automatic weapon, and blew us all up.
I only had 4 more levels to go before the campaign would have been completed.
Good olâ Freelancer
I was curious and exported my data, too.
In the file Analytics.csv both CheatDetected and CE_AntiCheat each show up only once for me. However, I have certainly used the Alt + F4 cheat more than once.
Maybe IOIâs detection algorithm doesnât work properly? Maybe those lines reference some other event and not Alt + F4?
If you or anybody else does find out whatâs going, please share your knowledge
I think a big part of the issue is that people are trying to get shit done in months or even weeks that was meant to provide something to unlock in the game mode for years.
We can only do 1 thing at a time.
While I donât disagree with the sentiment, I donât think Freelancer in its current form was meant to last years. Iâm possessed of reasonable certainty IOI had every plan to update it to player feedback as they know this community is filled with speedrunners and people who spend 8 hours a day playing Hitman when not working, and everyone in-between.
Even if you just played casually âas intendedâ, youâd get to mastery 100 by the end of 2023/ start of 2024 iâd wager fairly easily, just by brute force.
Mastery yes, but then you still have the x numbers of syndicates challenges to unlock.
True, but a lot of those are grinding challenges meant to be achieved when youâre doing other things (I.E, youâre not meant to go for them deliberately).
I havenât played Freelancer but once since the patch. Itâs not deliberate, just that Iâve been busy with work. There is a psychological component though, that they didnât fix the fuel cell in the garage so that I can always pick it up among other things that should have been fixed easily; and the âgrindyâ nature of the Prestige mode with lame reward trophy.
Freelancer mode was the âcarrotâ, and the update was the âstickâ.
