I can continue to test this, but I did this the other day and it didn’t register as a collateral kill.
I understand what you both are saying. They both die at the same time but perhaps there is a minuscule timing difference that discounts the explosion from registering collateral kill. And I never use explosives to trigger propane tanks — sometimes a micro taser, but in this recent case it was the tried and true “shoot the leaky tank” method.
I have also shot down Haven Island coconuts onto a target and a non-target NPC, killing them both at the same time, and it didn’t register as a collateral accident kill either.
So could be this based on non target getting killed first.
I would suggest try this and see if it doesn’t register again.
1: non target on left
2: target to his right
3: propane tank to targets right
So shooting it should be killing target first then non target. That will guarantee if this is a bug for you or just a timing thing of who dies first which i mentioned at the start of this post.
The collateral kill just has to be a target and ANY non target (which does include guard). Just have to make sure it’s a non target. You can’t kill 2 targets simultaneously as collateral.
100% agreed. I feel like collecting guns on the maps should reward map knowledge, removing guns kills this.
Other examples are the golden shashka and El Matador in Santa Fortuna, and the Rude Ruby in Whittleton Creek.
I have a hard time accepting “it would make it too easy to get all of the guns” as an argument, because every prestige level I’ve done so far, I have like 50 guns left (I believe the total number of guns that can’t be found on the maps reaches near to 100) to collect when I’ve gotten everything from the maps.
So i tried this again. i ko target and non target and place a propane tank closer to the non target so the non target dies first just to see if i could get the PO to check off.
My go to location at the moment for Showdowns is Mendoza. Some really cool sniper spots on that level, especially the stairwell that overlooks the dance floor and the vineyards!
Anyone had the issue where you quit out and thr game fails you? I accidentally alerted the suspect and his fam, so forced a quit (since it was the final hardcore showdown), and it failed me.
I’d quit out other showdowns before with no issues and this time there wasnt even any gunfire.
I’m having a blast in Colorado for showdowns now. I just did a suspect showdown on alerted Colorado (not hardcore) with 6 or 7 suspects (can’t remember the third level). But i did 2 objectives and the po was sniper with epic.
So i started on the water tower (and i don’t understand how ppl are having issues with this start location on alerted or hardcore) but if you just wait for the far guy on the right to go to the stairs and smoke, the other 2 guys are away enough to slide down and walk right behind the guy on the stairs smoking.
I did start with an AR and sniper so i left my sniper up top and slid down to go ko the point man and other guy just below and took them out. I almost got caught with the lookout walking right past. He spotted one of the bodies and when he investigated, i ko’d him. Lol
After that, with the point man disguise, I’m pretty much free range all around the compound.
After i found the suspect (12 minutes), i ran back to the tower, got my sniper and sniped him. He was in the shooting range so bonus to me for having the point man disguise.
I also did a couple of my other objectives of killing guards with an AR and smg. Quite easy with no bodies found.
I will post the video later if anyone wants to watch but as I’ve said, i find Colorado to be one of the easiest maps for showdowns cuz it’s a small map, it’s a very flat map and there are disguises that really make it easy to go around without being worried about enforcers.
In the same campaign I just did today, I had the Ice Pick and the Concealable Baton show up in the in-level reward crates. In my roughly 675 hours of Freelancer I’ve never had either of them show up before!
I thought that Pistols were the only category that could have multiple items show up in crates in-level, since I’ve only had one from each of the other weapon categories show up in crates before this (TAC-4 S/A Jungle for Assault Rifles, Sawed-Off Bartoli 12G for Shotguns, DAK Black Covert for SMGs, and the Kukri Knife for Melee)
Yeah it’s not so bad if you’re heading straight down, but using the water tower as a sniping spot is absolutely a non starter for me. The minute somebody sees you, you’ve got every single guard aiming at you
Well if you do get caught sniping up there, then you have enough time to get down. Also don’t be up there in your suit. I did my run with the point man and sniped my target and got away before anyone knew anything.
This is why I prefer the internet disconnect. Some people may say force close or Alt+F4… This might be okay (and maybe not ) if you’re not planning to get back into the game. Force quit seems like it would take longer and use more resources when you open the game back up. Disconnect keeps the game running and all you have to do is reconnect.
I think I must’ve been in an alerted Mumbai. I killed a target in a takedown with a lethal throw, but I was spotted, then shortly after I was gunned down. They were using shotguns. Probably less than 10 shots.
Later in Berlin, I hid inside a crate after a collateral explosion kill. But one of the NPCs must’ve watched me climb into a crate - since he got me compromised. I got shot - a LOT (maybe 20?), but still didn’t get an ‘Agent Down’. I was hunted for several minutes while the guards kept on looking for me. I finally had an opportunity to climb up and hide in (another) crate, then the guards could finally cool down.
It’s weird, but the guards seem to stay in combat mode if they can’t see where you went. They’ll keep aiming at where you were.
The security computer in the church basement of Sapienza had a similar issue for a while; 47 would type on the keyboard slightly to the right of the actual keyboard, typing on air. It’s been mostly correct, still slightly off-center, but at least over the keyboard now, so this might be corrected eventually too.
I stacked the bodies atop eachother, threw propane next to both of them and shot. Registered perfectly. Maybe the propane being in the middle is the issue here?
Side note, what id like to see added to Freelancer is a custom difficulty option. After playing a lot of hardcore, i really like a lot of the elements: ruined disguises, the extra guards, the higher perceptiveness of thr guards, etc. However, I’d probably choose not to have every mission alerted (or any, if I’m honest - unless I’ve previously failed) and I certainly wouldn’t have hardcore style showdowns either.
I always put the propane in the middle. I arrange the target and the innocent in a V and stick the propane right in the centre before shooting from afar.
The only issue I’ve noticed is that two targets won’t work: one has to be innocent. They really are adamant that it has to be collateral damage
Yeah fingers crossed. Freelancer is bound to get some attention as part of the upcoming updates and content in 2024, so hopefully this is one of the fixes it’s not the biggest issue in the world obviously, but it’s still one of those little things we’d like to see patched up
