Freelancer - General Discussion

Use the stock market and the disconnect restart option to build up some funds for that. Been doing it myself the last few days and it comes in handy, assuming you have patience. I detail the most effective way to pull it off over in the Freelancer - Stocks Discussion thread.

Yeah, I saw your post, and thank you, but that goes against my ASS, or the Axwage Sportsmanship Style.

I can’t tell if you’re mocking me or being serious while borrowing my style, but I like it either way. :+1:

It’s a pretty flagrant act of either exploiting/cheating/cheesing the game, depending on how charitably one wants to view the action.

If that’s how you like to play, you do you.

As for the matter of Hardcore mode, having completed 2 HC campaigns, I do feel that IOI should provide more comprehensive documentation of the differences.

The #1 reason, bar none, that you’re going to fail Hardcore is because many of the game mechanics you’re accustomed to become bad habits in HC - which, by extension becomes the reason that you either fail your prestige objective or die.

And with that, I’ve been given an idea for a new thread.

I’m still thankful that IO cut a challenge to complete 10 hardcore campaigns tbh.

Considering the how unnecessarily complicated getting a perfect run is in Freelancer compared to the base game with its contradictory requirements, I’d say it brings the exploitation and cheesing upon itself.

With the exception of Hardcore mode, and at the risk of sounding flippant:

Skill Issue.

Personally, I can whip through a non-hardcore campaign in just under 2 hours within the constraints of not using Alt+F4 or leaving without completing objectives. Most of the time, I will complete the campaign with every box checked. Rarely I’ll have failed one checkbox because I died.

Source: I’ve only got 7 campaigns left until I’ve completed the Top Dog achievement.

If you want to have a conversation specifically about Hardcore mode, there is some brokenness there that I can forgive. There is absolutely no need to cheese or exploit the regular game mode.

Sure there is, when you want to gain more money to buy items faster than completing the missions, which was precisely the notion proposed.

Also, when changes made to a map between the main game and Freelancer have been unnoticed prior, such as an NPC entering an area they never enter in the main campaign and spoiling a perfect run (an annoyingly common occurrence in Bangkok of all places), would perfectly justify pulling a disconnect restart to try again with the knowledge now in hand that that particular NPC will go to that area now.

You appear to have confused the word ā€œNeedā€ with ā€œDesireā€. You don’t need to do it, you just want to.

Freelancer is an infinite game mode. You will be playing every map an infinite number of times. Choosing to Alt+F4 is again a matter of desire, because you personally believe that your definition of how the game should be played trumps how the developers designed it.

Which is fine, because it’s a single player game and it’s how you get your kicks. But don’t pretend or insist that it’s more than that, nobody cares for hubris.

Of course. That was the entire point that was being made before you decided to add your two cents to it. @Axwage was commenting on how difficult it is to gain enough money in the early stages after a prestige to be able to buy the weapons to complete objectives, and I gave a means that could take some of the burden off, to do with the info as he saw fit; no more, no less.

At no point did I suggest that it was anything more than that. Get over your own hubris of thinking that you’re making some kind of big point here; you’re not. I never suggested anything beyond a possible reason one would have for using such a method, so there’s no reason to make more out of it than there was.

You specifically used the word ā€œrecommendā€ which is quite clearly not neutral. It was also the only suggestion.

You’re right, perhaps I’m being overly uncharitable because of your track record on this forum.

It’s tempting to point out the proverbial pot & kettle, but instead I’ll opt for genuine curiousity - What hubris? Is the ā€œsizeā€ of a point a measurable indication of its veracity? Seems more like you’re being irrationally hostile.

Was that actually going to be a thing? :open_mouth: I was stressing like hell just trying to complete one Hardcore Campaign to unlock the Black Bruiser suit, so I can’t imagine doing 10 of them.

As an option, should he wish to take it. Nothing more or less. It was the only suggestion because it was all I had other than suck it up and deal with it, which I’m sure is a conclusion he’d already reached.

I essentially already pointed out the pot/kettle metaphor by using the words ā€œyour own,ā€ in my statement. And I could respond with my own ā€œwhat hubris?ā€. I’m being hostile because your choice of words in your last post sounded like you were unnecessarily picking an argument with me, and I am in no mood to engage in another dragged out debate right now, so I just went straight to harsh responses to get it over with. My apologies if I went overboard.

Failed a campaign for the first time in a long time. Fucking alerted Bangkok. Ah well, I may be a bit out of practice since I was grinding Destiny to get the skimmer and playing Deathloop. I think having to start the Campaign over will be good for me; maybe I won’t try and rush things now.

Yeah. Was to be called " Legendary Assassin". And here’s the image for the challenge had they used it:

There’s a couple of other cut Freelancer challenges iirc.

Just some more comments and observations, which have been surely made before by others:

  • In the safehouse, I wish I could ā€œblend inā€ in every spot while holding a large illegal item. There are some spots where you can, and many where you cannot. If you want to sit down in many of these spots, you have to drop your shotgun or sword or whatever, which teleports that item to the basement.

  • I do not seem to understand how the music in the kitchen/living room works. I will change the music track, and nothing seems to happen. Then after I complete a mission and come back, we’re back to the regular theme music again. Why can’t this just be a persistent option? Let me change the backing tunes, and have them stay that way until I change them again. At the very least, change the music when I change the music!

  • I remember that a few months/patches back, the garage door was patched so that you could open/close it at will, or that you could close it after having opened it, right? I also believed the greater control offered to the player would lead to persistent changes. As it stands, every time I go into the garage to craft my explosive, I open the garage door to let some light in, make my bomb, and do my mission. When I return to the safehouse, the garage door is closed again. Why can’t we just remember the choice to leave it open?

  • There really should be a pool ball on the pool table.

  • Give me briefcase choice, molotov cocktail, and broadsword please!

Wow, thanks for the info on that. To be honest, although it would have been rewarding to complete this challenge, I’m really pleased IOI scrapped it. I think it would have given me a heart attack :joy:

There’s a couple of things I’d like to see added to the Safehouse.

  • Blend in option for 47 at the fireplace.
  • Option to turn fire on/off at any period (day, sunset & night)
  • Seasonal Safehouse decorations
  • Ability to make 47 pick up his briefcase in the Safehouse basement to store large weapons etc before heading to a mission.
  • More weapon walls to be added in the basement (currently space for 3 additional walls).

The recent thread about Hardcore changes made me want to try that gamemode again, and honestly it was going way smoother than my attempts at first completion.
Managed to beat the first 3 syndicates without much trouble, even getting a solid handful of perfect runs along the way.
What ended the run was a basic takedown in Sgail. Started at the chapel, PO to kill a target with epic silenced pistol, one of the targets is a raider near the helipad. Took my silverballer, sniped him from my start point and started going down, clearing out the two pairs of guards below to complete a side objective.
As I walked past the money burning pit, I thought I was far enough from the ensuing chaos that I could move on with the mission. Then suddenly I started getting shot and everyone around turned orange. Needless to say, I didn’t reach cover in time.
Karma for staying up too late just to finish a campaign I guess. Taking it slow and waiting in a box for a while would prevent all this.
This and some of my experiences with getting compromised long after pulling off seemingly safe sniper shots makes me believe there might be some intended mechanic of guards recalling your look after calming down if they see you sniping in the distance or similar (as dumb as it sounds).
Though beyond that it was a good time and I’ll probably make another attempt later.

Oh and not really connected to anything but during that campaign I had a New York mission with both Perez and Mann as targets and I thought it was kinda neat.

If they ever add it, I hope it unlocks automatically for me since I already have 10+ Hardcore campaings completed.

Isn’t too bad now since they fixed the distribution of the prestige objectives.
