I think the discussion about Knight & Stone should be happening in the thread for the Co-op mode as we don’t have any confirmation this mode will be on Freelancer.
Anyway. Here’s maybe an unpopular opinion: I really don’t care about any story in all these modes (freelancer or co-op) as I don’t count them towards the main story. They could even give me a generic NPC to play.
I have been saying this regarding the rumours of Co-Op coming to Freelancer. There is no concrete evidence as yet to suggest its coming and the objectives we see in the test run footage could very well just be objectives for Co-Op that are very similar to the objectives we see in Freelancer.
Either way, we’ll soon find out.
Recently, this video popped up on YT again:
While I can get over these mechanics being absent in the main game, can’t help but imagine how much fun Freelancer would be with these, specially the point shooting and human shield.
I only just figured out the “cheat” to stop yourself losing all your Freelancer Tools when you enable/disable Hardcore Mode. Only took three years for me think of it. ![]()
Just shove it all in your inventory first. The only thing you’ll end up losing is either the oil or water canister since you can’t hold both at once.
Is anybody else still getting a consistent-ish crash when you use the tactical wetsuit exit on Mendoza in Freelancer? Got it on Xbox when I played on there and now getting it occasionally on PC too.
Beyond that, what a great experience it is to play Freelancer on PC with a much more customisable experience thanks to Rogueless Freelancer/Variations where I get to alter the settings so much more! ![]()

The thing that would bring me fully back to Hitman would be a total overhaul of Freelancer or at the very least the inclusion of most alternative maps!
But the wait is starting to feel a little pointless ://
For all of my fellow Agents on console, they really do need to bring that Variations mod officially into the game. It’s an absolute disservice to the mode and one of my wishlists alongside offline mode!
Thanks to Freelancer’s generous XP allocations, I’ve now hit the new Player Profile level limit introduced in the December 2024 patch after a recent stretch of getting back into Freelancer after not touching it for awhile.
I’m gonna go touch some grass now. ![]()
Got it once when I played a featured contract on Mendoza map. Dunno what causes this.
@IOI_Artjoms could you tell the devs to double it again? We need to keep thrison off the streets.
Keep playing @thrison and if the devs do ever double the exp level limit then you’ll automatically reach the new limit! ![]()
Congrats though! Seeing those different names like Apex Venator on your profile instead of Mortifer Velocis is really satisfying!
Oooohhhhh interesting? Does this actually work then? I thought if you did that, once you enable Hardcore mode they’d instantly disappear from your Inventory?
I’d love to see the alternative versions of maps included into Freelancer too ![]()
Yeah. I did it the other day and it worked. Didn’t work when aborting a campaign. Which was a little odd.
Noted! Thanks for watching out for the common folk :DDD
Me, who aims to go to the player limit, currently closing at the old one of 7500, and seeing the goal drift again:

(congrats @thrison)
That’s cool. I’ll have a go at doing that next time I’m heading for another Hardcore run!
Does anyone know if hardcore mode gives you more currency?
No, it doesn’t sadly. The only incentive is to play a campaign once for the challenge related reward and/or you feel like you want to play at a higher level of difficulty from your normal Freelancer campaigns. I do think they should rework it to allow us compromises and middle grounds for those who want master mode mechanics like footsteps and advanced AI but not the egregious amount of lookouts that spawn in on that mode for example.
You do get extra exp per syndicate showdown you do though, but that’s only for the showdown mission itself. Again, I wish it was a dual bonus exp and money payout for every territory taskedown and showdown.
Completing prestige levels gives bonus
merces for completing objectives but maybe is just for the prestige objectives? I can’t remember.
Maybe I should go to Colorado more often - just got 4 weapons from crates there: sawn-off shotgun, DAK SMG, Rude Ruby and Krugermeier Silver. Made me wonder if it wasn’t a hidden feature of a mod or something.
